This is my favorite song about a fifteen year old girl going to her first metal show and learning to headbang. Sumetal's stare is in full effect on this one

In Japanese culture its disrespectful to sing along with the main lyricist so the crowd acts as a backup vocal or call and response type and yeah they have their own part which is SUPER cool and adds to the experience that is the wonderful glory of babymetal. :)

Metal became stagnant a bit with all the doom, gloom, aggression, etc, etc. What I love about Babymetal is that they made metal fun again, full of life and innocence. Everytime I watch and listen to them, this 53 year old grumpy metalhead smiles and headbang along. 🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is when compulsory education ends in Japan, so the girl is also realising life will never be the same and her first 15 years passed by too quickly, so she is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
They recorded it originally in 2012 when Su was 14, so it is not biographical but they could relate ... although they were playing their own metal concerts, not attending their first.
The Nippon Budokan in Tokyo is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics, but also now one of the most prestigious venues for concerts in japan (think Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden levels of prestigious).
BABYMETAL are the youngest average age female band to ever headline there, Su was just past her 16th birthday, Yui and Moa both still only 14 (so yes their voices sounded young for a good reason).
They sold it out 2 nights running - they had released their first album just before these shows.
You are right about their energy ... now consider that the night before during this song when Yui and Moa were hyping the crowd in the middle Yui fell off the stage and disappeared. Su and Moa didn't know what had happened, but they continued on and finished the song like the professionals they are.
Yui reappeared on stage for the next song, smiling and happy ... that one started with Yui and Moa sprinting round the outer stage - Moa slipped and fell, just about staying on the stage but she twisted her knee or ankle. She was straight up, finished the sprint and finished the song (including some very taxing choreo) almost in tears from the pain.
They were little troopers that night, battling through. This video was from the second night - there were a whole load of safety railings put up around the stage after what had happened on the first night.

Budokhan= pronounced Boo-doe-con. And the fact that they're small (now that they're adults, they are 5'2' and 5'1") is impressive how such tiny humans can seem so huge onstage.

actually at this time Su was 16 and the other two were 14. because of that they fell under Japanese labor issues. that is why during this show Su had 2 solo songs and the other two girls had 2 songs without Su. they couldn't be on stage for the whole time. this was the second night of performing there since you see the railings that were up. the night before the girls had issues and one fell off the stage but came back next song. in 2020 they performed there again. wait til you see the shows at Tokyo Dome where it had 55,000 people two nights in a row, completely different set lists.

The song is about a girl going to a metal show on her 15th birthday. Yui and Moa sang a verse of Headbanger on their 15th birthdays on Babymetal's first world tour.
Ichi go no yoru wo = Night of my 15. Ichi (1) go (5) ichigo (15) no (of) yoru (night).

At this time the concerts were around 90 mins long because they also included Su solos, Yui and Moa singing together as Black Babymetal and extended intros to some songs from the Kami Band. To experience a Kami intro and a Su solo from the same concert react to "Rondo of Nightmare Budokan Red Night".
The song is about a 15 year old girl taking the subway to a metal concert and losing herself in the mosh pit and the music. She realizes that she's on the verge of growing up and vows to remember her moment of joy and freedom.

The first time I saw Headbanger in a live video was the moment I realized they were serious about making this music. The way they charge up the crowd, the energy, so few bands can pull everyone in. I watched a cam of their latest concert in New York. It was stripped down from the ones in Japan but the energy is still there and it’s still infectious.

Nice reaction. True one doesn't simply just watch a Babymetal concert. When in the audience participation is mandatory. Little detail that happens at the end of the song here. When moving to the middle so they can be on the riser with the gong. The mic rolls away. Moa saves the mic all while still acting out the choreography. In time you'll get to see Su got really good at hitting that gong. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

"Calling them small (smoll)" is actually just a joke, in reality they are small and even though they are small because they started when they were small they still did very big and bold things like entering the world of heavy metal even though they could actually be a famous pop group, This joke sometimes happens to this day, there is even a short video showing a giant Mic in front of Moa Metal (edited of course)

Fun, but scary fact. They played 2 consecutive nights at Budakon. They did Headbanger on both nights. On the 1st night, during Headbanger, when Yui & Moa go out to the crowd to pump them up, Yui fell into 1 of the open triangular spaces on the outskirts of the stage. You can actually hear her scream as she fell. On the Blu-ray they didn't edit it out, so you can hear it in real time. To their credit. Su and Moa finished the song together without missing a beat. True professionals. When Yui came out for the last song, they crowd gave her a huge ovation. She was ok thank goodness.

Aw yea, they go hard. And back in the day, the sets were longer too (~1.5 hours).
Luckily, they do typically mix in 2 Su-metal solos and 2 “Black Babymetal” songs for Yuimetal and Moametal duet, so the other can take a breather.
Budokan is a famous arena in Japan for martial arts events and major concerts where many American super stars performed. Moametal holds the record for youngest female ever to perform there to this date (14 at this show).
And I’m sure, after this epic concert, Babymetal has to go back and do homework, cuz, you know, they’re still in school 🤣.

We, or in this case they, the crowd has choreography of their own to do. If you are not in the pit, then you need to know what to do for each song. It's really amazing. That video you watched of them singing Metali is as much a training video for attending their live show as it is a music video.
I am sure when they are playing sold-out arenas in Japan, they probably perform 90 minutes to 2 hours, but sinse they played so many shows in the USA and Canada with hardly any days off. I get why the 1 hour show

Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
Finally you reached a live version, it's not the usual version we recommend but it's great either way, but don't worry you'll meet many more versions of this beloved song and among top fans favorites. If you think they're looking so young in this one wait to see more early official MV and 2012 live concerts.
They brought back this hit as part of the regular setlist during The Babyklok Tour and of course fans love it and enjoy a lot. Oh another thing, you finally meet YuiMetal here unlike the others MV you just watched, she's former member but we'll never forget everything she has done with this group, our tomato princess.🍅❤
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
This was live at Budokan 2014, reaching a huge milestone with only 16 and 14 yo, big international artists performed here like The Beatles among many others, so you get the idea how huge is this.
This song got tributes to one of the greatest J-metal/visual key bands, like X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are hyping the crowd singing "Hedoban hedoban", the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult-
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar and golden one here too.
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father was a very famous in Japanese music scene.
    Next suggestion:
    - _"Ijime Dame Zettai"_ live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and you can witness a turning point in their career and a different type of live performance unlike this one with big top notch production.
And another special suggestion you may like just bc i noticed something:
    - Uki Uki Midnight live at Budokan 2014 and...
    - From Dusk Till Dawn live at Budokan 2021.
    See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Can you believe that this is the 14th song after 13 exhausting performance even if this was filmed in 2014 when they were mid-teens? The crowd's mass headbanging occurs wherever BM goes on this planet. In this video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 06:05. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!" (addressed to crybabies in the metal concert). This crowd's shout in Japanese occurs whenever Su-Metal turns her mic towards the audience. BM's energy and stamina remain the same. There was no exception when this song was performed in every show during their North American tour with DETHKLOK that was complete on Oct.12 in LA. When I see this song performed live in Japan, do I do headbang? Oh yeah.

The Budokan is a revered venue for martial arts in Japan. Many groups and bands strive to perform at the Budokan. A bit of controversy began when The Beatles came because martial arts purists saw this as disrespectful to such a hallowed venue. Needless to say the concert happened. Another epic concert was Cheap Trick at The Budokan in 1978.
The Budokan is set up for sitting. The vertical arrangement of the seats is very very steep. I felt like I could fall to the rows below when I stood and jumped around at a concert. Another fun fact is The Budokan is next to the Imperial Palace grounds. A great place to visit on your Japan trip.

one of my favorites from them. I was introduced to this song through their Legend 1997 concert which was a kick ass show. This one is kick ass too. But lots more audience participation in that one because most the crowd was on the floor. Different stage setup. This is BUDOKAN legendary venue for performing. They sold out both nights. On a side note Nemophila is playing there in Feb 2024. But always loved this song. On another side note on special occasions like Birthdays Yui and Moa would take over the leads half way through this song. There is not a really good audio of Yui doing back then but Moa did it on her 20th bday which was 4 years ago i think. All the fans call it Moabanger. Moa has a great voice too not as powerful as Su but still very good pretty vocals. She did a great job and hearing the crowd cheer when she sang and that smile of hers was pretty cool. She said once she like doing it but prefers to let Su do most the singing . Anyway a cool check out down the line. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/MToMx6RCW-M/v-deo.html

    Great reaction, thanks!
So, this is what they do... since this is your first real live video. 😁
Yui and Moa (now Moa and Momoko) are in charge of crowd control and interaction, providing them the cues on the chants and backing vocals since in Japan it's impolite to sing along the lead singer. Needless to say they master on what they do.
A couple of curiosities about the Budokan concerts (Red and Black Night) on 1st and 2nd March 2014:
    - In this one (Black Night), during the gong scene, Moa accidentally hits Su's mic and then she catches it before it gets lost. She's sometimes called "Kikuchi-pro" for a reason :)
    - On the previous concert (Red Night) Yui fell off the stage during this song's call and response and missed the second half. But she appeared again for the next and closing one ("Ijime, Dame Zettai"). And then, Moa slipped on a turn while running and got injured right at the beginning of the song, but she stood up (almost in tears) until the end of the show. That's just another proof of their huge professionalism. On the next day's show (Black Night, the one on this video), the outer part of the stage appeared full of railings, of course!.
Finally, I'd like to suggest you this one: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html being a very important moment in their career (if not the most important).
    Until next time!

Some may like it, others may not, but Babymetal put themselves in the history book of metal.
There's another version of this song called "Moabanger" with an unique twist added that makes it more than worth watching. Pretty sure Moa could start her own private army.

I don't know if they're in there, but anytime they want to introduce Babymetal into Beat Saber for a cardio workout.. This band are in the top ten for sharpest dynamics.

if i am not mistaken the youngest was 8 or 9 years old in the beginning hence the name Babymetal.

You are mistaken. Yui and Moa were 11 years old when BABYMETAL was formed and the name is derived from the Japanese 'bebi-metaru' which basically means 'new metal' referring to the new genre or style of metal they were creating (Kawaii Metal) and not their ages.🙃

Regarding the crowd, particularly in Japan, they simply won't let them fail. Moral support? Got that. Need an extra singer or dancer? The crowd will cover it, just pan the camera.
