I’m sure I know why killing a Pillager Captain with lava doesn’t affect you with Bad Omen. Imagine you are running from the Pillager Patrol and there is a lava pool right in front of the pillager. He falls in and burns to death, so the game would register the pillager was killed by lava, so it won’t blame you, and you are Bad Omen free!
You can use structure void to make torch float like in the hogwarts in the harry potter, I don't know if it works in Java edition.
It works on every edition /give @s or @p structure block and structure void
