Wow. Thank you, John. I am truly impressed by this interview. And your honesty of being afraid to "come out" about being an atheist is so true for many of us living in a country where so many theists would murder us all in our sleep if it were legal. And some murder us regardless. And thank you, Scott, for sharing this with the rest of us. Hugs to you both, John and Scott (because what ever else can I offer since the blessings of some non-existent being is sort of stupid). You take care.

I grew up watching John. He was and is incredibly talented. So glad he opened up about be an atheist. I grew up in a religious area and I was an atheist. So many people used to attempt to “save me” from the bullshit that is religion. For me it was living around evangelicals everywhere and I got so sick of it, I finally let them all go. I could accept them, though they couldn’t accept me. Most of them have lived immoral lives, though they were “saved” and I wasn’t.
oh man, my mother such a fan of John, i feel like i am with family, the nerdy part LMAO What a great recognizance of what he is up to, that song (S) ha ha bless you john
It’s not about man made religion. It’s about trusting Christ as your sin bearer. There is a God, all the religions are man made. It’s about you and Christ a relationship. We’re living Bible prophecy right now. Please re consider. Hugs
Remember watching that’s incredible in the 80’s what a difference today. Turning 75 not so bad. You aged gracefully . Didn’t know you were very musical person 🎸🎤
This dude’s rhetoric is filled to the brim with truth claims. He claims to be “atheist”. He can’t even invoke logic without invoking a law of logic Lawmaker. Poor atheists. The most deluded, self-aggrandizing humans to ever walk this planet. Slavery to sin and satan is the worst possible way to waste their hollow existence. May God have mercy on you like He did Lydia’s (Acts 16:14) and my heart so that you won’t experience God’s just wrath for your evil for all eternity.
Observing how man has handled things on this planet - somehow - I am just not buying that we are really at the top of the food chain. Love often cannot be reasoned, explained, or even rationalized - but - I still think it is real and a powerful positive motivator. I would never presume to try and convince someone in or out of their beliefs - but - beliefs are just that "theirs". Built on experience, conscience, education, and senses of right and wrong. Fortunately, they are not always perfectly logical. Personally - and only personally - my best way of explaining my belief in God is actually explained in a single song - "His Hand in Mine". To atheists that may think I am naive - stupid - irrational - or just plain wrong - listen to this song and that is the best explanation to you of why I believe.
Hi Scott my name is Bridget Could you please send a John Davidson a message that I’m his biggest fan and I love to hear from him thank you for your hospitality
When we die, everything fades to black, and you either believe that you have a soul and will move onto the afterlife, or you fade to black and that's it. Whatever you choose to believe is cool with me.
I'm very impressed. This was Real.. and really well done. (And if I had to be within a football field's length of Bill Nye.. My brain would stop functioning too!) (Life begins when it is created)
I love this guy. I had a similar experience. I had a religious mother who made me go to church three times a week. It was brainwashing & child abuse. I had a horrible childhood because of it. I too, went to college. Besides English & other requirements, I took "World Religions" & "Argumentative Philosophy" After searching for "God" & the meaning of life, I realized, like you, it was all man made up & that religion was for controlling the masses. I'm 61 years old now I came out as an atheist to my parents, relatives, & friends in my late twenties. I was finally my true authentic self. I have since gained some good atheist friends & they are great, caring, authentic people. There are three kinds of laws. Divine law, nature's law, & man's law. I just believe in man's law & nature's law. I just try to be a good person & obey man's law & nature's law. I don't believe in life after death. I believe in death after life. I'm not afraid of death. I believe I will return to the nothingness I was before I was born. I'm no more afraid of the year 3021, than I am the year 1192. I wasn't around in that part of the past & won't be around for that part of the future. I'm o.k. with that. Anyway, you look great for your age Mr. Davidson & your mind is still sharp. You're a talented & intelligent man. It's great to hear more & more logic coming from the atheist community. Thank you for sharing. It's good to know we're not alone.
@Debbie Wright I would rather return to nothing than live in the eternity that the Bible describes. First of all I don't like trumpet music & "streets of gold" is just tacky & gawdy. I don't believe people rise from the dead, turn into pillars of salt, put two of every animal into an ark, where do you put the dinosaurs? I don't believe people turning water into wine, or walking on water, even though Criss Angel can do it. I don't believe in burning in hell forever & ever. That is sick & child abuse to spread this garbage to gullible children. I'm sorry you were brainwashed by your delusional father, you're no better than him, spreading those fairy tales to innocent children. Then they have to live their lives scared of burning forever in a lake of fire. It's as believable as spending eternity with 72 virgins. The Bible, The Talmud, The Koran, The Baghavad Gita etc...is about as believable as the tooth fairy or Santa Clause. I think it's sad that adults can actually believe this stuff. I suggest you go to college & study world religions & philosophy. Philosophy not Theology. Minds are like parachutes, they only work when they're open. Beliefs aren't facts & facts aren't beliefs. I've read the Bible cover to cover, was forced to go to church three times a week, until I was 15 years old. Since then, I went to college & studied world religions & philosophy. The more you know, the more you know. Anyway, I'm happier now than ever. Religion is a crutch for weak minded people. All thinking people are atheist.
@Debbie Wright "He" (your God) did not make me, nor does "He" (sexist) know me. Out of nothing, my father & mother made me by having sex with each other. They, not "He", created me. There is no such thing as a vigin birth. This whole virgin Mary story in the Bible is absolutely ridiculous. The Garden of Eden story is evil. "Don't eat from the tree of knowledge" Wow, that's great advice. That's saying, "Be ignorant, question nothing" What an ignorant message to teach children. Like Frankenstein, God created monsters & we monsters have killed God, because we know, like Frankenstein, or Frankenchrist, God makes junk. Even on the cross, Jesus apparently said to God, "Why have you forsaken me?" Good question, because God is evil, doesn't care, doesn't exist. What kind of God or man would send his son, daughter, or anyone else, to die for other people. It's sick. It's a fairy tale. No one asked God or Jesus to die on a cross or needed him too. Apparently, Pilot had him executed for being a hippy cult leader & not paying taxes. These stories are so ridiculous. These are just crazy stories to try to keep people from free thought, keep them ignorant, & obedient.
@@jerrythompson5967 It has nothing to do with college professors, it's about history & books. When you speak of "God" Whose God are you referring to? There are thousands of gods. I only don't believe in one more than you.
the fault lies in speciess. we are a fearful breed in need of simple answers to help us cope. we will believe in anything so long as it makes us feal better. it takes strength and courage to rationally deal with our own fears
God gives each of us the freedom to choose. You have made your choice and I have made my choice. I’m not religious either - I am spiritual. Question: How did you come to be? Who or what made your brain work to make decisions?
Interesting man, Mr Davidson. John was in a movie with Walter Brennan I believe back in the late 60's. ..genuine family band.. He has a great voice. "Dakota" was a song in the movie. A beautiful song. One of my favorite ever movie songs. Pretty sure he sang that song. Such a great movie! I also believe in God not that it's wishful thinking, but rather it was revealed to me through a search and through faith. He made it obvious. Pursue Him on His terms and watch what happens! You will find how to do it in John's Gospel. John says there is an attraction to men that he has. I wonder if it is because John has the good looks that many of us don't have. It must be hard being male and having those dimples. If you know what I mean. I knew a guy once who looked more like a woman than a man. Once he said out loud that he felt like a woman trapped in a man's body. I changed the subject. The way to deal with this is to focus on Jesus. "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths". God bless, you.
Shocking to discover John is an atheist! You still have to have "faith" to believe in atheism. You obviously have no understanding of Biblical truth, BUT you have the freedom of choice, but you do not have the freedom of consequence.
Atheism doesn’t require faith. It just means that a person is “not a theist,” “not convinced of the claims made by religions.” It’s the equivalent of saying “no thanks” to religion or “Sorry, that religion of yours doesn’t quite add up for me.” It doesn’t require “faith.”
Copied this testimony from you tube and there were many others just like it. I'm pasting it below. Here is good reason to be thankful for Jesus Christ. I've been to hell. Just like the Apostle Paul was caught up to the third heaven, I was caught down. The worst part of hell is knowing it's forever, and it's like you realize that over and over every few seconds "Oh my God, this is forever". But we can't comprehend eternity here. In hell you can, and it's the most terrifying and sickening part. There is no end to it. In hell you have no sanity, you're insane and that's horrifying to a degree I can't explain. My experience I had no memory of anything. I mean nothing. Any life I had on earth I had no idea it existed. I think if I'd had a memory I could derive comfort from it, but there was nothing. I could hear the shrieking and wails of others, and after a few minutes I could feel all their pain and torment too. It was a collective, hundreds or thousands of people all being tormented by eternity being insane and drowned by a sadness way worse than any depression that would drive a person to suicide. This is WOE. No earthly word can describe this kind of heavy despondency. I think I was in outer darkness. I'm sure other parts of hell exist, I'm just describing my experience. I'm so scared for any human being bound for that place, I wouldn't wish it on anyone no matter how evil they are. It's that bad. I think the Lord let me go there to realize exactly what is at stake when people die without Jesus. Hell is hell because it's a place devoid of God. Since He's the One who gives us peace, any place without Him is devoid of peace, or sanity, or love, or rest, beauty, creation, family, human contact, etc. Even light and memories are gifts from God. So when someone rejects Jesus, they reject all He gives. It's not His choice, it's our choice whether we want to live a life with or without Him. He wanted to save us from hell so badly He literally was crucified to buy our way out. I understand people not wanting anything to do with religion, or church, or Christians. This is between the person and Jesus alone. Here you have a man named Jesus who loved you enough to die for you. At least give Him a chance and hear His side. Read what He did for you in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John (the first 4 books of the New Testament). Jesus is not mad at anyone, He loves each of us more than words can describe. It's not too late, plus He's already forgiven every sin. Jesus offers a brand new life with a brand new heart and spirit. I wish I could describe how beautiful He is, how kind He is, how sweet He is.
Thanks for sharing this testimony and I hope people will take heed to it. Jesus alone is the way of escape from hell. It is a very real place and God wants nobody to go there. Read the book of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Jesus is not what people think Him to be. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but he wants all to receive eternal life.
Love John. However, it's obvious his morals, his outlook and personality are the result of his upbringing and strong influence of his Christian parents. This is undeniable. I respect his decision to be an athiest.
How sad and empty you are. You will see the Truth one day, though. No, it’s not okay to be an atheist, and you will find that out one day. God is longsuffering, but not forever.
I'm so glad to learn this about John Davidson. Like him, I am still in the closet about my own atheism as I've only recently come to the conclusion that there is no God. I can totally relate to all that he's saying. He was always one of my favorite singers back in the 70s and he still sounds just as good as ever. After watching this video, I have a new found respect for him.
I was very excited about viewing you on an episode of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Though I don’t agree with your non belief of God but you were talented and brought a lot of entertainment to many people. I have never looked to entertainers for any sense of morality. I can’t imagine in the day and age we live in that coming out about your personal beliefs would prevent you from progressing in your career?
Very nice, Lynn. May I ask you a question? Do you think you could be a moral person without the Bible or do you think your life would be quite different?
Definitively mate. Definitively. We will always fight the perversion of religions. The video will be here: ua-cam.com/video/8CT4ZHBomHw/v-deo.html Cheers.

Junior Nash Let’s just pray that the Lord opens his eyes to the One that created him. I can’t put him in hell and I can’t put him in heaven. I really pray and hope he comes to know Jesus, that he can have a close, intimate relationship with Him. In Jesus name.

Poor John. Knowing a bunch of religion and Bible verses is not the same as knowing God. I dare him to invite God into his life and see what happens. God won't force Himself on people, but He will respond because He loves with a real love - not a bunch of religious rules. John, you never knew or really experienced God. Well keep boogying on, John! Dogma is psychically tho concretely traumatizing, hence the boogyman analogy aptness. Read from the Nag Hamadi library, found in the Egyptian desert in 1945, translated by academic scholars, not by the church's scholarly redactors. Bush Sr. also spoke against eating broccoli during his tenure as Prez.
Spoiler alert; there is a heaven and there is a hell. Science is fascinating and God created it. I’m sorry your father failed you with your questions, I’m sorry the world does not answer your questions the way YOU would like. Now I’m not you but if I were I’d probably start praying to THE God that still loves you.
Yes I can. The book of Isaiah was written 700 years before Christ’s birth. It foretold his birth and life. Jesus death was witnessed on the cross and at least 500 witnessed him walking and talking after his burial. Have you read Lee Strobel? If not I urge you to. That’s not enough? Listen (on UA-cam no less) the countless people talking about an afterlife and what they have witnessed. Still not sold? I will leave you with Luke 16:27-31. The Christian walk is not easy but it starts with faith.
I just think it’s sad that you imply that God believing people are against the pursuit of knowledge and that there are no scientists who are Christian.
Is that what you think the video is about? I didn't get that at all. To me, he was saying it was about us all being who we are without some ancient book telling us that something normal (and which harms no one) is evil.
No Christian believes God have them a touchdown. They acknowledge God for the gifts of their ability and strength. The guy covering the wide receiver may also be a believer in God. He does not believes God gave the other guy the touchdown no more than he believes God grants him his interceptions. It is just a public show of faith the same as this ideology is a public display of his non faith.
I've read where both parents were "ordained Baptist ministers. "... That your father wanted to "rebaptize" you, while in college... While many "sects" incorporate Baptist into their name, the idea of women ministers and double baptism, would be foreign to mainstream Baptist congregations. You sir, are a victim of "Religion". Marx got one thing right... Religion IS the opiate of the people... Salvation is thru Faith Alone, in Christ Alone... Not thru good works... It's a Relationshiop, not a Religion... Religion does evil, in God's name, thru "good works." The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, etc., were born in the pits of hell, by religious people, using God's name. They were not of God... I'm sorry that your parents, your church, and your religion have let you down, but God didn't... Salvation is available to all, thru faith in Christ's redemptive sacrifice...☝️

Brilliant interview! Well done! Thank you, John, Scott and Sue. You place a kind face on our movement.
If he is wrong he is in a lot of trouble...
I hope Im as sharp as him when i get his age .

You have an excellent interviewing style Scott. Great to listen to John ramble and hear his thoughts on religion.

It’s not about man made religion. It’s about trusting Christ as your sin bearer. There is a God, all the religions are man made. It’s about you and Christ a relationship. We’re living Bible prophecy right now. Please re consider. Hugs
There's not one shred of proof, Jesus Christ even existed.

The real Mr Entertainer John Davidson, I remember that episode on Streets of San Francisco you were great
Observing how man has handled things on this planet - somehow - I am just not buying that we are really at the top of the food chain.
Seventy five It's not that old. It's a lot of wisdom there but it's because you are old doesn't mean that A fool can be young and a fool can be old
John...I am sorry that I spelled your name wrong....please forgive me ....We are STILL HUGE FANS , Have been for over fifty years...
I'm very impressed. This was Real.. and really well done. (And if I had to be within a football field's length of Bill Nye.. My brain would stop functioning too!) (Life begins when it is created)
You can't help but like this man.
Nothing like having college professors enlighten you to the truth about God....wow
Great interview didn’t care for the singing but I’m hard to please when it comes to music.
Atheism makes us responsible. Religion gets us off the hook.
Amen brother.
I love his smile too
Shocking to discover John is an atheist! You still have to have "faith" to believe in atheism. You obviously have no understanding of Biblical truth, BUT you have the freedom of choice, but you do not have the freedom of consequence.
OK then if atheism is a belief then not collecting stamps is a hobby?
Atheism doesn’t require faith. It just means that a person is “not a theist,” “not convinced of the claims made by religions.”
It’s the equivalent of saying “no thanks” to religion or “Sorry, that religion of yours doesn’t quite add up for me.”
It doesn’t require “faith.”
John, your religion is Science.
That was excellent!
Love John. However, it's obvious his morals, his outlook and personality are the result of his upbringing and strong influence of his Christian parents. This is undeniable. I respect his decision to be an athiest.

Case for Christ written by Lee Strobel, read it (with an open mind would be nice). At the time of this writing you should be about 79. Now I’m not you but if I were I’d probably start praying to THE God that still loves you.
Spoiler alert, you can't prove anything you just said.
Is one course one course

You can't even prove Jesus Christ existed.
