    It's solid because it's not hollow as most large jewelry is. Solid does not refer to purity.
    10K scrap is $17.50 / gr this chain weighs 2176 gr Scrap value is $38,080.00
    Artistic value adds at least 50% if not double. Wholesale value 50-60K low retail 80K

    For those wondering the value, if I'm not mistaken, he mentioned "28 mm - 10 karats"(purity is 10K), which means this chain is worth roughly about $33,000 - $35,000 just in Gold, as of Dec 2018. The price goes up when you add the makers fee and since this item was handmade, you can expect to pay an additional 30% to even 50% of it's value. I would say this chain would sold at a reasonable price for about $45,000 to $53,000. This chain does look great. Reminds me of the UM turnover chain.

    • @MrSackinator
      @MrSackinator 6 років тому +5

      @@callumross406 That's why he said it was 10 karat gold.... Because they add other metals to decrease the purity down to about 50% pure, and increase the hardness..... Nobody every claimed it was 24k gold.... Chains are usually made of 10k, 14k, and
      18k gold. 24k (which is 99.99% pure) is too soft for jewelry and would bend to easily.

    Title is not misleading. Solid gold means its not hollow gold tube doesnt matter the karat. This heavy of a chain cant be made from 18k and especially not 24k as it would deform under its it's own weight and the links would no longer move. The only gold to own to invest is 24k bullion. All others including 18k will never be worth enough to cover original cost of labor in making the jewelry. As most retailers have a 100%-400% markup. Meaning on a 10k gold chain. You wouldnt sell it for more than it cost unless gold got up over $8000 usd an ounce. Chain is still fantastic. And the craftsmanship is top notch.

      kool - Yes, I did hear him say, "28mm, 10 Carats". My original statement was made by reading the title of the video which stated:
      "How 2000 grams of SOLID GOLD is made into a Cuban Link Chain".
      Therefore, the title was misleading in that it was not "pure" gold at all, but a conglomerate of gold, zinc, nickel or some other matrix in the mix. Either way, it is still a huge and awesome necklace isn't it?

    • @jorimgoebel2362
      @jorimgoebel2362 4 роки тому

      Stack Smasher Where did you get that price from tho? I mean I don’t want to sound rude or anything just wondering if that’s the actual price of the chain. I work as a goldsmith and if I made that thing I would put a much higher price on that chain. 2168.9g of gold alone would with the current gold price cost 125 363,4 dollars. Then there is the time you spend making it, that is rather hard for me to guess though because I have never made a cuban chain this big but I would say to make this takes around maybe 9 hours. That would, where I work atleast, cost around 1080 dollars. Then I also would want to make some profit of my work wich would mean that I would probably almost double the price. I mean maybe I would not double it because it already cost so much but I would definitely make sure to get a couple thousand dollars of profit off that chain. So I would guess that chain is worth maybe 140k, depending on how much the jeweler wants to profit off of it.

    • @jorimgoebel2362
      @jorimgoebel2362 4 роки тому

      Stack Smasher Actually I just realized that I calculated that price with 18kt gold instead of 10kt gold. So it is cheaper than that.

      24 x 2,000 would be $48,000 just in scrap, say he will charge $10,000 for his labor work $60,000 would be a more exact price.

    That chain looks real nice, and probably well balanced too. It’s WAY too big for my tastes, but gorgeous. Instead of people window shopping and hating, dream big, work hard, and get nice things you can afford in the process. Relax, you only live once. The most I spent on a chain is $3800, so far. I doubt I’d ever spend more than that on a piece in the future. But, for those making a lot more money and willing to spend it, enjoy yourself. I remember being a kid and couldn’t afford any gold chains at all.
