Make your own Rusty iron water mordant and make your own unique eco printed pieces of cloth.

You start with some rusty nails, or make your own ! Some vinegar, water, cotton or linen cloth, leaves, string, a steamer and some salt. And you end up with these beautiful unique pieces of cloth.
Having fun, working with different strengths, different foliage, and different cloth can keep you happily experimenting. When you open up your fabric bundle it is like Christmas! Did you have to soak the fabric in salt water to stop the rusts oxidation process from eating the fabric?

I did rinse it in the salt water and then clean water to remove the salt at the end 😊

Oh I so eco dying, not done any on fabric but I have on paper. These turned out beautifully. I love the stronger darker one, may I please as how did you get such a strong mordant did you just dilute it less? thanks

It was probably a very strong mordant to start with, as I have alot of rusty things I soaked. 🤪 But also I dipped the fabric into the.mordant instead of just the leaves.
