what makes collecting agates fascinating?
- everyone is different. 😁
🤝🤝🤝Wow, I'm sitting back, I've brewed coffee, I'm going to watch my favorite theme!
👍👍👍👍👍
Yes, they are fascinating. Thanks for sharing, Joshua!! Just imagine what you will have come across in the next few decades!
Have you seen Keswick Cold Water Agates, Joshua?
They are pink, salmon, orange, white, gray, and occasionally some light blue or gray. They come out of Keswick, Iowa, US.
Hard to find these since pit was taken over by Martin Marrieta and no longer open to public.
Now I kick myself for selling a large 300 lb. piece in 2001.
I still have 3 in my collection. But not that size. 🙁
Amazing agates! No words... 😍
I have had such a wonderful experience collecting over the last few years, mostly from your Agatebay and Live Shows on Facebook. Things I have sought have been famous deposits like Baker Ranch and Dryhead, but you have introduced me to types I had never heard of. I collect for interesting inclusions and unusual shapes in the stone. It is such a mystery how these agates came to look the way they do. Since each stone is different from another and many are very unique, collecting always stays interesting and very enjoyable!
I've been collecting agates for over 45 years starting with stones picked on local beaches along the east coast of Canada. My collection now includes pieces from many locations world wide, but the local agates still hold a special attraction. As you say, every piece is a discovery because while some can share certain 'type' characteristics from specific locations, every piece has its own uniqueness. They're like snow flakes; no two are the same. I very much enjoy seeing all the magnificent samples you bring us through your presentations and I'm sure your collection must rank among the top in the world. Thank you for sharing.
