Fix OneDrive Syncing Issues

- Several ways to fix common sync errors that you will experience while using OneDrive.
1. Make sure OneDrive is open
2. Make sure you are logged into OneDrive
3. Pause and un-pause syncing
4. Un-sync and re-sync SharePoint document libraries
5. Log out and log back in
6. Reset OneDrive (support.microsoft.com/en-us/o...)

You are the only one that started at the very beginning - explaining how to make sure OneDrive is running and logged in . . . everyone else I found started downstream from that point, which was not helpful as I immediately realized the reason I couldn't see anything they were explaining was the app wasn't running and I wasn't logged in! Thank you!!!
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! Yeah OneDrive should open on it's own when you start your computer, but sometimes it just doesn't. It seems like such a simple fix, but it can be hard to notice it's not open.
A question where I previously had the oneDrive icon in the taskbar in blue and everything was fine after I restarted and everything was the same but the icon is now gray but I don't know what it means, do you have any ideas?
Followed instructions, I reset someone's onedrive. Now I am unemployed, Thanks Noah!

Thank the lord. I had this problem but my school said I was making it up since nobody else in the entire school had this problem. I couldn’t figure it out and was threatened by admins because I was “lying”. Teachers gaslighted me and parents screamed at me because I literally couldn’t submit something if I couldn’t get the file. Thank you so much almost kms

Since last week I have the problem that the OneDrive icon in the taskbar always show the blue cloud even when it is still syncing. I never now whether my files are all synced or not by just looking at the icon. Do you have any idea what I could try to fix this error?
Hmm, haven't seen that before... If the OneDrive reset didn't work then I am out of ideas sorry.

Hello there! So I had a problem with an corrupt folder and finally after couple of days I managed to delete the corrupt folder but the syncing of the newest files somehow is still in process. I want to see in real time what s on the desktop folder for university but on phone it doesn t sync the newest files for last 3 weeks.
Any ideas of how to update the one drive folder on phone and make the sync work?
Hey! If you click on the OneDrive logo in the taskbar and then press "View online", do you see the files there? If not, the files aren't being synced properly on your computer. If they are there, then the problem is the phone.
Regardless I would recommend a OneDrive reset that is shown in this video (if you haven't tried that already).
in our scenario the files are synced but when a user wants to open files can't no errors there just keep hanging or sometimes there's a pop-up with windows defender smart screen any insigh?
Hmm can’t say I’ve seen this before. It looks like your IT department is blocking you from opening files which is strange. You could try to sign out of all office apps then restart and sign back in. But I would talk to your IT department if possible - seems specific to your company.

Thanks for the video. If I am using three PC's (laptop, office and home), would I do this on each machine? My goal is all three are in sync all the time.
If you are having sync errors, then yes you have to apply these fixes to each computer.

This doesn't address the red circle X on a couple folders. Why is that showing up? Also, its syncing but I have a file that has that circle arrow active logo on the file vs others with cloud logo, and I cannot share this active arrow file. I dont see it online. Looking at the app in the tray icon, I see a bunch of files, but it says "Available in 1 second", with a bunch of variations to 11 minutes ago. What does "ago" even mean in this context? It says the file name, and below it; "Available in X(x=some folder name) 1 minute ago", etc
The red x usually means there is a sync conflict and you need to merge changes. The other icons I'm not familiar with, sorry.

I use my pc with my linked phone 's data. Now when my phone' so data is over, I use an another phone's internet data which is not linked to my pc. Now the problem is when I use the 2nd phone's internet data my onedrive sign out and won't sign in. It shows error. How can I fix this issue. Can you please suggest me.

For my device, it shows all these different files in One Drive that aren't syncing properly, and they say it's because of stuff like no access and permission, or that it's open in another program and cannot be synced. All of these unsynced files seemed to pop up when one day, I was given a notification to sign into OneDrive, so I did, and then I was bombarded with all of these sync issues. Any specific insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hmm, without seeing your screen I'm not sure. The steps in the video are the only things I know from experience, and don't know any troubleshooting techniques outside these ones. Sorry

Hi, I tested this out and mine says sync pending as well. I had to open OneDrive from the start menu, then it synced fine.

Do you have a video about one drive and permissions? I see a lot of tickets involving one drive and permissions.
Like sharing a file in OneDrive, or giving someone access to a person's OneDrive? This is my only video so far on OneDrive.
@@noahstelting I see a lot of tickets for people trying to either download or send a file via email and it saying they don’t have permissions. We’ve done everything from uninstall, switch accounts, make a new profile……

Nope, as long as you follow the steps in the video, no files will be lost.

@@leahrowden3939 downloads are usually not automatically backed up to OneDrive. But they will stay locally on your computer. These steps don't delete any files.

It does not sync my existing Desktop / Documents / Pictures folder to the existing one after reimaging, i´ve tried reinstalling and resetting and all of that stuff, the option to select those 3 is gone with the newest onedrive version
If you open the OneDrive settings, is there a 'Backup' tab? If there is try clicking 'Manage Backup'.

The Button "manage backup" was not existing. I then found out that if you image your PC with the ISO downloaded from the media creation tool. It only gives you the very first build of OneDrive. I then downloaded the newest Version from their Forum Page and was able to sync the folders again.

Hello, so i have sync a folder but them the others couldn't see it?. But they should be able to see it. and also i have sync a folder but couldn't see it on my file explorer, on the onedrive setting i cant see it on the list of the syncing fodlers but when i try to sync it again it says its already syncing but its not.
Hey Mike - I assume you are talking about syncing a SharePoint folder right? There’s 2 options in SharePoint - Sync and Add shortcut to OneDrive. Both work, but With Sync you will see the document library under a building icon. The Add shortcut, adds a shortcut to your personal OneDrive. Which one are you doing?

Hmm, are you syncing personal files or company files? To share personal folder you need to right click and press share.

So the files are on SharePoint and you are trying to sync them to your local computer correct?

When I log on my phone app ..I am unable to view the photos I have (on my PC) any ideas of what I can do ?
Hmm, I would click on the cloud > settings > "Sync and backup" and make sure pictures on your computer are being automatically backed up.
In my case, everything is saved on the cloud, but not on the computer so I have to save them separately, I've been trying to fix it since last week without success, I'm not a technician 😩

I have a question. Im trying to change to windows 11 but i have some unsynced files because it says i dont have space. If i change to windows 11 will my files still stay in onedrive?
Your files that are synced in OneDrive will still be there when you upgrade to Windows 11. Any unsynced files won’t. I would recommend clearing space from computer first if possible.

I was asked to log into something called "Windows Hello" before I could open One Drive but I don't remember the password. I just want to get rid of the One Drive icon on my task bar.
Should be able to uninstall OneDrive in settings.

So, here's the confusing thing. I though my files weren't syncing because I was looking at the date of the files between my android phone and PC. Turns out, if I change the content of the file on the PC the phone still shows the old date, not the latest date. If I open the file (in this case an excel file) the update is there. That's why I though it wasn't syncing because of the file date. Looks like the date in Android is the creation date and not the modified date.
That was driving me bonkers.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I need One Drive at all because I only use this laptop for Internet. I don't have a phone or a desktop to synch to anyway.
Yeah you can uninstall OneDrive and then this would remove it from your computer.
Tricky stuff, the default folder gets full (150.000 photos did that) and it's nearly impossible to change the default folder where the backup is uploading to.... Perhaps I will find the answer and then share it with you
bro my one drive got full with only 1k images or something now my games are all laggy and having data issues ima unistall one drive 💀

feel like one drive is always syncing when I'm playing the game and it causes it to lag.
Yeah, if you have a file open that is in OneDrive, it will show sync pending. Closing it is a good way to save resources and battery life.

Yep, when it works it’s great. But one of the things I have to help people with the most in IT.
I found out something today, for the past year and a half or so my ping would randomly spike from 17 to anywhere between 400-1500+ and it was always in between 5 minute intervals or so. I tried everything and recently I disabled one drive and it fixed it completely. I’m just leaving this comment here for anyone that by chance is having the same issue as I was, since it was impossible to find a fix until I found it myself.

it tells me i cant log in because its full and its giving me so much anxiety cause my account will be deleted soon automatically if i dont clear up space
On my personal account I also get an error because it’s full (due to just having the free version). Are you able to login to OneDrive online and delete files/transfer files somewhere else?
@@noahstelting yea i can login online. im individually downloading each picture to my system cause they wouldn't let me select them all at once, i will then back them up on my hard disk. ive also diabled onedrive from my pc to not go through this again. its all working out cause it went from 30gb outta 5gb to 5.57gb outta 5gb. ive deleted a lot of the files and im backing up a few of them
