I have witnessed domestic abuse from female abusers on regular occasion. A type of abuse that is, still, disproportionately invisible.
I witnessed their male victims be further victimised when their abuser calls the police to use as her enforcers, knowing that he will never be believed, and they will prosecute any claim she makes, if they ever try to stand up for themselves or for their children. These men have nowhere, at all, to go. They are not believed if they call domestic abuse helplines. They are not accepted in any domestic violence shelters.
The response to the Caroline Flack situation typifies everything wrong with how we deal with domestic abuse, when the abuser happens to be female. Only female domestic abusers could ever be lionised by the media. Same with Heard.
For once a prosecution is undertaken against a female abuser in the same way they are undertaken against male abusers - and happens regardless of the wishes of a victim - and suddenly the world has an outpouring of sympathy for the _abuser._ Because they happen to be female, and so many women can relate to her.
When men commit suicide due to domestic abuse, when a _victim,_ no-one cares. Just another forgotten male suicide statistic that continues to go ignored. Probably blamed on "toxic masculinity". When female _abusers_ commit suicide to avoid the responsibility for their abuse, to avoid the bodycam footage looking "like a bloodbath" in court, they are martyred.
Anyone who maintains this horrendous double standard is part of the problem of domestic abuse. Unless women know they will face justice for domestic abuse, this will continue to keep happening.

It is not easy to come out of such despair when you feel so low, hopeless, no end in sight, not ever feeling like your enough. The feeling of helplessness is sometimes just unreachable, especially in the dark corners of your walls. when those days add up and the thoughts escalate, if you don't have the energy to ask for help it is just easier to think of ending it all. sadness is a lonely despair. others can judge and think they know the answer about why this or why that but in the end only kindness and compassion matter, no matter what the outcome. we need to be more understanding, loving and there for one another. This world be be a much better place.

i cant even put into words how angry this whole situation has made me. caroline will never get to come back and see all the support she had. there's people who won't see their friend/family member again bc of the horrible things people said about her. i'm gonna be honest, i didnt really know much about her or what has happened over these past few months. but no one deserves to feel so low that they decide to take their own life. it makes me sick and angry to think how alone and helpless she must've felt thinking this was the only way out.
and i'll tell you what makes me the most angry. all these celebrities coming out saying that she was a dear friend to them. well i didnt see them giving her any support before she died. i bet they shunned her and pushed her away, lest they be dragged down with her in the media.
i cant believe it's taken someone dying to make people realise what theyre doing (not that i think people who did it originally will stop necessarily, but maybe people will feel more confident to call people out on bullying).
    fuck this whole situation.

    • @victoriac2816
      @victoriac2816 4 роки тому

@mhffc i love this. for a start, people clearly wanted to make an example of caroline, because the media goes absolutely crazy when a woman is accused of a stereotypically male crime (domestic violence, child sex abuse, rape etc.). i'm not excusing what she did at all, anyone who is violent towards someone else deserves punishment. but the extent of the punishment should not be decided by the public/media.
furthermore, i dont know if youve noticed how many men get off scott free in the eyes of the law and in the public eye after doing violent crimes. kobe bryant was accused of rape, granted i dont know much about that situation but when he died everyone was calling him a hero. chris brown literally beat rihanna to a pulp and people STILL support him. countless politicians and church leaders are pedophiles and yet they get to keep their career and their reputation. yet one woman is accused of a crime and she is forever held as the example that 'women can be perpetrators too', and it's not fair. a 40 year old woman lost her life. remind me, how many male celebrities who have abused their partner have committed suicide because of the bullying they received from the press?

Her unnecessary death is ever so tragic, as suicides undoubtedly are. It's bizzare that i feel so emotional about her passing. Truly heartbreaking never the less.

God forbid you survive a suicide attempt though. People are even crueler afterwards. They'll call you selfish and a coward. If you haven't guessed I'm speaking from personal experience. Suicide doesn't make anything better, particularly if you're unfortunate enough to survive, (again in my personal experience) life gets much worse and as ever there is absolutely zero guarantee of it ever improving. People don't know how to handle someone in that kind of pain and so "Friends" melt away like the snow in spring, leaving you more alone than before. Expect a stint in your local nut house, because if having your freedom taken away isn't an incentive to learn to pretend you're fine, I don't know what is. I'm a shadow of the man I used to be. I have regretted every day for 3 years that I wasn't successful, yet somehow I'm still here. It helps that I don't allow myself to hope or dream anymore. I literally get through one day at a time, when I can't do that I take it moment by torturous moment. I often tell myself "amor fati, momento mori" like a mantra, and try to embrace the pain, because the truth is pain is life and life is pain, suffering is what defines us, without it we wouldn't even know we're alive. old freddy fred fred said what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and i suppose in a way,I am, because now i really don't care how much more I suffer or what happens to me. I'm like a cup flowing over. I'm too tired to write anymore so I'll end with the words of the great emil cioran "why kill yourself? By the time you do it's already too late"

I do know how it feels to want to take your own life , but I also know deep down that I could never do it . Because I am so friggin scared of the outcome for me and my family . So to be a person who's a celeb , but just doing their job and looking fabulous with it , but one who's made such a deep deep decision not to be around anymore must have been traumatic for her every minute of the day . Do you know how it feels to be so down that you feel that someone has turned your button off .? Do you actually know ? Well let me tell you that no one will ever know how you feel unless they have walked a mile , in your shoes , and each persons walk is different .

Thank you for doing this laura ! Sunday morning when I read the news while attending a petrol station at 7.45am, I was stunned ! I couldn’t move for what felt like a age. Worst part was I felt like I knew her, we meet while I was filming for sky in 2008. my instinct was that she was shy and being protected emotionally by her PR team , I saw a timid person behind what many may have mistaken for a arrogant bubbly soul! I too faced this atmosphere of judgement and assumptions of who I was, and still deal with it today . Leaving the media spot light was hard, but I felt so insecure as the fighting for attention amount realities and TV stars is not me, but it didn’t change the way people our side that arena saw me as I know was a public figure . I still get victimised or challenged by persons when I’m Just trying to live my life due to my past in TV , for me i Cope , but I cant imagine the brutality and hatred Caroline must have been going through, there’s days I couldn’t get out of my bed as it was safer to stay under the covers , but For Caroline I’m sure she felt the same but had no choice but to appear normal under the circumstances. No one will ever know the full facts only the two people that was in her home that day , but the main catalyst would have definitely been the criticism and judgement , there’s only so much a spiritual soul can take, no matter how much support one gets, many will laugh and joke ! But it’s only funny when it’s not your life! Reflect on what would happen had it been you! We all should forgive we are not perfect and forgiveness helps us all . The mind will enforce the negative and push that into your dreams and your emotional process until nothing is reality and you even fear to sleep at night . Eventually you decide you can trust no one, and I fight this battle daily. I dreamt of Caroline last night passing over me, it was so real I jumped out of my sleep , I hope that was her nod to me to say thank you for understanding me . Miss her enormously rest in peace my love GOD Bless your soul .💓🙏🚀

And alot of comments here are saying the media can be cruel. She hosted a show where 2 previous contestants killed themselves. Over here in the UK there have been a number of people who killed themselves after appearances on shitty reality TV programmes. So I think there's is a fair amount of blame not only on media but also those who consume it, you are part of the problem.

Domestic violence is unacceptable, whether you are male or female, dead or alive, a celebrity or otherwise. This isn't trolling, it's refusing to condone. Carolines death was due to what had happened the last 2 month outside of love Island & knowing due to being a female celebrity would have been hit with a 18-24 month sentence and fined about a few hundred thousand.
Mike's death was due to him not coping with reality life, rumours of that anyway. He was on about another 4 reality programmes after love Island. The other girl I'm not sure about, was romours that the bf killed her then killed himself a few days later but who knows. Everyone that applies for love Island are desperate fame-seeking models who already have about 1M followers or so on their Instagram. Who think even if they don't win, aslong as they are in for more than 4 weeks will end up with deals etc & end up like Tommy, Maura, Chris, Olivia who either go onto be a success or end up being with an actually celebrity.

Spectacular and Well Done Laura Whitmore for that very touching and heartfelt tribute to CAROLINE FLACK. You are 1000% correct Vloggers on UA-cam, Tweeter, Instagram, Google, and Facebook have no idea what the repercussions are to the hate, evil, and negative comments made on there social media platforms, will emotionally affect that person or persons being attacked. Nor are they aware of the negative influence they have on there followers.
Saturday I had to unsubscribe to a UA-camr (Murad Merali) whom was promoting hate of and negatively attacking for NO REASON Love Island UK season 6 contestant Shaughna on his channel. It's just sad.

I’m deleting Twitter and Instagram right now . This holds no interest for me any longer , I’ve never had Facebook and never will !! What started out as platforms for old friends and distant family to share their daily going on’s has turned into a slandering , harassing and threat festival for all . I know people will say but you are on UA-cam ? My argument for that is you choose the content you enjoy and ignore the shitty stuff . This is very sad but the press and social media have contributed to Caroline Flack killing herself 💔 Over and out !

    • @SophiesWorld2024
      @SophiesWorld2024 4 роки тому +11

Actually I think blaming social media and press is a bit of a cop out. Her boyfriend called the police on her. Her previous boyfriend said he thought he was going to die if he stayed with her. Supposedly she was wrongly interpretating texts as cheating. There was pain inside her mind that needed to be worked out and unless you know a lot about psychology it's too easy to consider yourself or others crazy in a situation like this. There needs to be more mental health education for everyone, better mental health services, stigma reduction.

Depends what you're using them for. Never have a problem on Instagram or social media because I don't use it to whine, bitch about people, stalk celebrities and argue day and night. I use it to connect and share work and ideas with other people. Social media isn't to blame for people misusing it.

The world of ShowBiz is fake and ironically, the "tribute" on Love Island proves it but people are still too blind and naive to see the first when it's stearing them in the face.
Caroline committed suicide after realising that her entire life was fake and after that fakery came crashing down, she had nothing real to fall back on.
Just look how many KPOP singers have committed suicide?

Every single person that has said "well she committed a crime" or "she deserved criticism for her actions" There's no way she deserved criticism at all. When did it become a free for all to destroy someone for a mistake? I agree there were questions for her to answer, and that is the only thing that should have been reported on. Social media is a cancer, gives people voices who don't deserve one, people who will post RIP to a dead celebrity and then the next week bully some teenager from behind a screen, telling them they're fat, worthless, ugly or some other derogatory term. I had a incident 3 years ago, ok I never suffered 10% of what Caroline did in hatred. But comments stick with you. I never broke the law, I never hurt anybody. It was an embarrassing incident that eventually everyone knew about. I still get comments about it now, but if I was famous I'd hear 1000 times more comments about it until the day I die. Fame comes with drawbacks and downsides, yes, but destroying your mental health shouldn't be one of them. A famous person is just someone trying to make the best life they can for themselves. Anyone who disagrees with me, just stop and think, you're actually saying, anyone who makes a mistake deserves people on social media coming along and telling you to kill yourself. The double standards you people have are pathetic. Caroline could have been your Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin. If your child had a fight with another at school, and then all the other kids turned on yours, would you say to your Son/Daughter "suck it up kid, you made your bed now lay in it"? Of course you fucking wouldn't. Anonymous bullies and social media have a lot to answer for. Caroline did have some questions to answer, but because she did doesn't mean she should be bullied into suicide. I never watched her on TV but having suffered vilification myself for an incident it's really struck a chord with me. Like I say didn't know of or watch her on TV but because of the situation with the domestic abuse case, doesn't mean I want to see her bullied and told to kill herself by people who know nothing about the situation.

A poem I wrote to anyone struggling. Including myself. If you could see me now, you’d wonder what’d happened.
If you couldn’t see my smile, you’d think I was saddened.
Sadness can sink deeper than one missing smile.
A lost, empty feeling that can last for a while.
A while is fine though, we all have those days.
Wondering whats next, as we navigate life’s maze.
But is it acceptable, to live with sadness for a lifetime?
This maze feels as achievable as this mountain I must climb.
Is it my health, my work, love, friends or money?
Am I the weird one of the group? Why do they look at me funny?
My life appears to buffer, whilst everyones around me is flowing.
What am I doing so differently to those who are growing?
Are they living a lie? Are they as happy as they seem?
Or does their happiness go no further than the Instagram screen?
What is happiness, fulfilment and that feeling of content?
If I experienced it again, would I know what it meant?
How do I fix a feeling that has placed itself so low?
They say to talk about these things, but where do I go?
You look around aimlessly for an understandable ear.
Not realising you’re surrounded by people; all willing to hear.
A parent, a colleague, a team mate or friend.
Any one of them blessed that you confided in them.
You’re scared about life, yet you face it day by day.
So why be too afraid to not have your say?
To drop a hint or share the notion that you’re not feeling quite right.
Explaining that every morning can be another personal fight.
A fight you will win by the way, and win it you must.
You’re winning at life, even if it feels ‘only just’.
But be mindful not to confuse any low feelings with facts.
They’re passing emotions at best and you’re much better than that.
You face this battle too often, but there will always be a light.
You’ll wonder how one day you woke up feeling right.
You’ll be amazed at what happened, you’ll rediscover your laugh.
You’ll grow from this pain, you’ll find the right path.
And when you do, you’ll be your best version. No longer an act.
Borne from the strength you found to reach out and react.
Strengths and qualities you’ve gained from just being yourself.
A positive new outlook to love, life and health.
And when you are there, out of life’s deep end.
You’ll be the one confided in, to help out a friend.
