  • Important: I already uploaded a "piano cover" of this song a few days ago. (link below). I was asked to increase the volume of the synth arp so it can be heard, so instead I lowered the volume of the piano and increased the synth arp that I made. I am not certain, but I think Enya did use the Roland Juno-60 for this part of the song. The Roland Juno-X which was released this year includes the factory presets from the original Juno-60. The patch name is Pizzicato 1. I just added some reverb and EQ slightly.
The purpose for creating this arp was to just add some dimension to the piano cover, and that's why the volume was lower because I didn't want to to be totally distracting. The Arp pattern os not 100% accurate as its very hard to hear what is going on in the original song by Enya. I manually drew the notes using the piano roll in Logic Pro.
if you are not interested in this kind of thing (apologies), and please feel free to watch the previous upload where this all stemmed from.
    Thanks :)!

Yes-- that Juno 60 arp is iconic. One of my favorite sounds that Enya ever used in her music. I think it only features in Watermark, Shepherd Moons and The Memory of Trees. You can hear it in Storms in Africa and On My Way Home. Interesting fact...the really magical sound that you hear in Caribbean Blue and Lothlorien (it is like a liquid drop) is actually the same arp/Pizz 1 patch, but you just take the attack off and you get that additional magical sound.

Man, I had been looking for this Lothlorien sound that she layered on top of the piano for yearrrrsss! Thank you for sharing this!🤩🤩🤩 I was thinking that was sort of a clarinet, the body without the attack... lol

So the world goes round and round
    With all you ever knew
They say the sky high above
    Is Caribbean blue?
If every man says all he can
    If every man is true
Do I believe the sky above
    Is Caribbean blue?
    Boreas
    Zephyrus
If all you told was turned to gold
If all you dreamed was new
    Imagine sky high above
    In Caribbean blue
    Eurus
    Afer Ventus
    Boreas
    Zephyrus
    Africus

I would like to propose something to you: could you send me the solo part of the synth? I could do a whole instrumental with you, I can play bass and strings

Does the synth arp just do it's own thing in real time as you are playing?

In theory you hold down notes and it plays a pattern (well back in the day that's how it worked), but I was able to try and map out the notes in a sequence using the piano roll editor on the computer which then plays the notes I have created.

I remember ARP Instruments as a synthesizer manufacturer in the 1970s. What do you mean by "synth arp".

    • @yew2533
      @yew2533  Рік тому +1

arp is short for arpeggiator (these days it is anyway, not sure about then past. Yes Arp instruments are very famous of the line of synths they created as well.

@@yew2533 Back then ARP stood for Alan Robert Pearlman, the founder of ARP Instruments.

arpeggio goes back to 1730 Italy and Scott invented the arpeggiator in 1940... at least that's what synth arp conjures to me
