We LOVE your try channel videos and are loving your cocktails with Ciara series a lot. As for your mint....it needs a new bigger pot! mint is pretty much a weed. trim it and water it and it should be ok. but it will grow A LOT. so use the heck out of it! LOL Let it dry before you water it though, if you over water it the roots will rot. The plant in this video could definitely use a bigger pot and some fresh soil and it will be fine =)

@@DaCaptain924 They are still manufactured the same in the US after the Japanese purchased them. However, as far as I'm concerned it's not the same as US made and owned. It's like calling a Toyota car that's made in the US an American car.
I myself was upset with the sale though because these manufactures have a bit of US history to them. Either way....for me Makers Mark, Jim Beam and Knob Creek are bottom of the barrel. We have much better bourbon manufacturers that are owned and made by US manufacturers. I will be sticking with US owned as long as it's an option.

@Blue Skies Please don't get me wrong. I don't have a problem with other countries that acquire US companies. I have a problem with Americans selling our corporations just to make fast money. I have the same problem with Americans that send 95% + of our industries over seas.
Other countries aren't bad for acquiring what was once ours. I don't dislike them them at all if they manage to acquire our US companies and corporations. It's not like they are taking our nation in a hostile manner like some would like for us to think.
It's our US business owners and investors that fucking really piss me off. They are the ones making the choices to sell off America. To me, that's what sucks the most. They are betraying our nation and our people by selling our history and our jobs.

The mint needs re-potting in a clay pot about twice the size with decent potting soil. It needs a plant tray. It wants to be in a window and to be watered regularly to keep it evenly moist but not wet. And you should pinch off all the ends so it bushes out.

You can't go wrong with Makers Mark! Some other recommendations are Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig small batch. I make my Mint Julep using more mint and I really crush the mint and sugar into almost a paste before adding the bourbon and then give it a nice stir with some ice and strain into a frosted glass. I personally don't care for the crushed ice.

The Mint Julep by Joshua Soule Smith
Then comes the zenith of man’s pleasure. Then comes the julep - the mint julep. Who has not tasted one has lived in vain. The honey of Hymettus brought no such solace to the soul; the nectar of the Gods is tame beside it. It is the very dream of drinks, the vision of sweet quaffings.
The Bourbon and the mint are lovers. In the same land they live, on the same food they are fostered. The mint dips infant leaf into the same stream that makes The Bourbon what it is. The corn grows in the level lands through which small streams meander. By the brook-side the mint grows. As the little wavelets pass, they glide up to kiss the feet of the growing mint, and the mint bends to salute them. Gracious and kind it is, living only for the sake of others. Like a woman’s heart it gives its sweetest aroma when bruised. Among the first to greet the spring, it comes. Beside gurgling brooks that make music in the fields, it lives and thrives. When the bluegrass begins to shoot its gentle sprays towards the sun, mint comes, and its sweetest soul drinks at the crystal brook. It is virgin then. But soon it must be married to old Bourbon. His great heart, his warmth of temperament, and that affinity which no one understands, demands the wedding.
How shall it be? Take from the cold spring some water, pure as angels are; mix it with sugar till it seems like oil. Then take a glass and crush your mint within it with a spoon - crush it around the borders of the glass and leave no place untouched. Then throw the mint away - it is the sacrifice. Fill with cracked ice the glass; pour in the quantity of Bourbon which you want. It trickles slowly through the ice. Let it have time to cool, then pour your sugared water over it. No spoon is needed; no stirring allowed- just let it stand a moment. Then around the brim place sprigs of mint, so that the one who drinks may find the taste and odor at one draft.
Then when it is made, sip it slowly. August suns are shining, the breath of the south wind is upon you. It is fragrant cold and sweet - it is seductive. No maidens kiss is tenderer or more refreshing, no maidens touch could be more passionate. Sip it and dream-it is a dream itself. No other land can give you so much sweet solace for your cares; no other liquor soothes you in melancholy days. Sip it and say there is no solace for the soul, no tonic for the body like old Bourbon whiskey.

Mint julep was originally made with Cognac or Genever as that’s what rich people have been drinking in America. Regular Americans couldn’t afford imported spirits so they used their spirit, Whiskey. The world comes from ‘Julepe’ which means rose water, because rose petals were originally used as the dominant flavour, and mint was later added.
All in all, I prefer them with bourbon but they are also nice with cognac.

My favorite bourbon cocktail. I love you're doing the Julep :) As for bourbons to try, I'd recommend Blanton's, Eagle Rare, or Buffalo Trace. All three are from the same distillery, but have a different mash build. Good trying to find the first two, though.
I muddle 1 sugar cub or 1 teaspoon of sugar w/ 2 shots of Buffalo Trace. I then add about 3-5 medium mint leaves. Press them a bit, but not too much. I don't like to have broken mint leaves. Stir thoroughly and let sit for a couple of minutes. Pour into a Julep mug, add crushed ice and mint garnish. My Julep mugs are made from copper. This is my grandfather's recipe for Juleps. Of course, he didn't have the latest style of bourbons to use. He always had Wild Turkey on hand.
I wonder if different parts of the south have different recipes for Juleps? For reference, call the above recipe the Charleston, SC :)

Old grandad 114 proof is really really good bourbon . In America it punches way above its weight price wise at 23 - 30 dollars , comes in on the sweeter end to me nice spice since it’s has a fair amount of rye in the mash bill , some orange and fruit notes . You get a bit of heat initially as the higher alcohol content reacts with your mouth but the swallow is so smooth I highly recommend it

OMG, mint juleps. I just recently made one for myself the first time about a month ago. It is positively shocking how much the addition of simply mint and sugar completely transforms the characteristics of a whiskey. I was truly blown away.
Interesting enough I'm also on a bit of a bourbon journey myself. My buddy recommended me Noah's Mill. And I've been enjoying it quite a bit. Very strong cinnamon notes to it. And the high proof compliments them well. Good stuff.

Re: killing mint plants. A single small mint plant can't survive being raided over and over again for leaves and sprigs. If you're going to be using mint a *lot* for cocktails, you need to have a bed of it in a garden, preferably in an enclosed bed of its own, because it will take over your entire garden otherwise. Something like a window box will work if you don't raid it for leaves/sprigs too often. An enclosed tub a meter square will contain enough mint to allow for plenty of kitchen/cocktail use.
