Not sure, it seems like the whole internet is stacked against anyone with the 'wrong' opinion. Really, this isnt fun anymore. YT and G+ have already block all comments I make, and I'm sure my channel will get the chopping block when they're done with the bigger channels. I probably wont be making very many videos in the future.
Have not seen a new video in a month, thought I would reply here since I have seen you on the Greg Silverado channel commenting a bit, a crane update would be nice or a quick hello video with maybe a few of your thoughts would be neat to start the new year, if not I understand, hope you are still doing well friend!
I am doing fine, just got busy this month with rides and seeing some friends. I was getting a bit burned out on the whole YT and making videos thing, and truth be told, I haven't done much of interest. Maybe this year I'll get motivated again, but for now, I'm just gonna hang low and see what happens out there. :)
If you need contacts on a weekend or in an emergency you can match those parts to many starters such as Toyota T100 and Camry. If you have the whole starter you can use most of it too. Pull up the online microfiche (Ronnie's HD etc) for exploded parts breakdowns to see what swaps. The drive housing and pinion gears are Harley -specific. You can also loot Sportster and big twin starters for matching parts if you have one lying around. I just did that so I browsed UA-cam to see if anyone else has so I'm here. I put one starter on my left, the other on my right, and disassemble to verify and play matchup. While you are in there it's a good idea to clean your motor commutator and inspect your brushes. Those swap too and commutator cleaning videos (basically any of them) show you what to do. I collect removed starters (it's not worth it for a shop to take chances on a customer comeback because an old starter shit the bed when the labor is worth more than the starter) which just saved my ass when a Sporty starter had a cracked main housing (no HD part number) and I had a big twin starter lying around to rape. Worth mentioning are those push button aftermarket end covers. They are wonderful for when your control circuit (little Bosch style relay, handlebar switch,, wiring) malfunction. Pressing the button moves your solenoid manually. They don't interfere with anything else and if your rear exhaust ext blocks the button you can normally still move it with a screwdriver, long pencil, or even a stick. I put them on all my HD starters and encourage customers to use them when I replace their starter. An emergency/poverty method if you have to is pull the stock plain end cover, drill a about a 1/4" hole in the center, and use a Phillips screwdriver or similar to move the solenoid and start the bike. (MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT IN GEAR or bystanders will be entertained!)
Thnx guy my bikes has been sitting in this garage since 1995 it a fxsts and im gonna try a new battery hopefully that will do the trick my uncle fid start it a few times every year tho so i hope its not the starter/ salanoid i horrible wrench or electrician cool vidieo
you can save some time but not taken off the front foot board as you can get the jockey bolt/gear out just be opening up the primary and pulling it wide apart at the back.
Depends on your bike. The problem is the one contact to the front (transmission) side. If you can get at that bolt, yes, you could do it in the bike. You might want to pull the cover first and see if you can do a cleaning with fine sandpaper first. If everything is deeply pitted, you'll need to replace the whole kit.
It should be about the same, and yes, you could buy a new starter, if that's what you feel more comfortable with. Tho I do believe on your bike, you can replace the solenoid internals without removing the starter.
You can, and they are often reasonable, but knowing this can save you on the road. If you have to and the bottom nut isn't stuck or stripped you can sometimes do this on the motorcycle. It sucks but it beats walking.
hi War Horse, I know I haven't talked to you for a while. my father just passed away. for a while there I had my hands full with hospitals and family issues and all the other nightmares that go with situations with this. he died from an infection in his hip that went septic.
Man, I'm so sorry to hear that, and my heart goes out to you. I know what you went through as I had the same thing with my wife dying. Things will get better though. If you wanna talk, hit me up on Hangouts for a private chat. Tho, I understand if you don't wanna talk too.
Give it a go, and when you get set up, let me know when you wanna chat. Just put my name in there, and it'll give me the option of accepting it, once thats done we can either type in the chat bar, or do a person to person call. It's a great way to stay in touch and keep it private.
I forgot to mention, that when bench testing the starter, you must have a jumper wire going to the small blade terminal, from the positive post.
Where will you be posting new videos since vid.me is closing down on the 15th?

Great video. You have to talk us through somewhat,it helps a lot. I feel very comfortable doing mine now. Thanks for your time and effort.👍🏻😎
Very good. You helped with all the details.
Real good video, fellow biker. Beautifully explained. Thank you. Thumbs up!
Thanks for the video. I normally get a cardboard piece and line up the bolts in the order they came out. That way don't have to worry which is which.
Not into motor bikes, but found the video informative to learn a bit about motor bikes.Knowledge is power.
Like I said, this is an automotive starter, so it applies to any car that has this in it, of course not the removal part. :)
Jesus, War Horse , You have done this a million time already YOU make it look so EASY.!!;-)

Good job!
Nippondenso, Japanese baby!
A fiddly job, at least there is no mud in Florida :)
Mostly sand that gets into every crack. LOL
nice to see you adding a bit of cig ash to the gaskets ha! ha
It aids in assembly ;)
thanks man !!
Welcome. :)

Could you do this while it's still on the bike?

@@warhorse1956 Great, thank you for the quick response, I've got a 1998 Road King Classic, 111,000 miles, good ol' Evo
@@kevintsetse8440 That's a good year, keep that one around.
I have a 98 fattboy. Is it the same operation? Can I just purchase a new starter?
