Rey is actually quite a smart dude; yet very humble - don't be fooled. It makes a lot of sense why those bosses saw his potential and gave him a chance. I like his hunger.
Another area in Cyber Security to look at as a starting point is Vulnerability Management and GRC (governance, regulation and compliance), then work our way up to PenTest if you wish to or just stick to that area of EDR, PCI, VMDR and so on. Like he said, you can then get the other Certifications like N+, S+ CISSP etc, later down the line.
Thank you. Next season in April I will bring a Cyber Security Consultant, the video is already recorded.
You are doing the Lord's work Boni. I am also grateful for people like Ray who are willing to share the knowledge.
Thank you for this informative session sis Boni & to Ray as well
Self development is really important
And will take these nuggets very seriously

I am a Cybersecurity Executive, and I agree with this gentleman's views. I also took a salary cut , back in 2011 from another IT role to be within Information security posture. You need to study a lot and love computers to make it in this industry.
Any tips on which certificates to learn as I currently have an IT Diploma
Any tips on how to transition from software engineering to cyber?
Probably should be efficient in the whole development process. Know code thoroughly different bugs, the proper practices like iso, code hygiene etc...practice on tryhackme, hacker rank etc... to be able to see through normal apps what could be wrong

Hi Bonnie you cant even imagine how much this video is doing for the youth in IT not just salary but the knowledge from someone with experience. Just got my first job in IT and will definitely share it through
This has been thoroughly helpful. I think it's quite amazing work you're doing and truly the first of its kind locally. This is really hard facts and informative.
Great motivation - thank you!
Wow UA-cam is gold! Great info thanks.
Ya ne, don't sleep on it! You can't even find this type of content on the platforms!

All the certificates he mentioned my son are busy with ISC2 but he's 3rd year Degree kwi Bcom Accounting just that the world is changing to 4IR whether we like it or not he must have Tech Certificates thank you for this he will see I'm not crazy when I push hi
agreed, but he definitely should not abandon accounting at all it's an amazing field , I have friends that took a break after their 3 year accounting BDegrees and ended up stopping there ,while he has the drive and time he should continue until he's SA(CA) if that's what he wants.
I loved this content so much. I am in a cyber security academy and I have almost 3 quarter of his certs. Looking forward to entering the working world. Thanks for the inspiration Rey
How is the best way to transition from software engineering to cyber? Once you have certification. I currently have security +

This was very insightful and inspiring,l thing Boni shld allow everyone to wear musks because wow Ray really dished it out😅🙏🏼🙌🏼
See Boni, this is the actual salary that IT technicians should earn just like in the US and UK.
This salary is realistic.
I completed my degree 9 years ago and still unemployed, currently driving uber, looking forward to start my certifications....could have done this long time ago but procrastination kept me behind.
This video gave me enough confidence to continue with those over the wire and hacking certificates. I too endend up in IT by mistake after dropping out of an accounting programme. Currently working as a software engineer and would like to switch to cyber security. Cyber is the actual reason I choose IT at varsity.
Thanks for this.
I started in helpdek as well, wanted to get to NOC but was declined 12 times, now I am a Data Center Technician with ISC2 CC, Cisco and Comptia N+. Eish, I need help guys.
H Boni, I'm new here, I just came across this and decided to watch. Very interesting and insightful. I have just completed my Security vetting course and I thought of venturing into CS which i'm starting next week, I dont have any IT background. Am I on the right path?
I can't say cos I'm not the professional, but I think the guest gave you the rough idea of how you can approach it.
I'm currently set to write three certifications this year - sc 900, network+ & security+ so I'm really happy to know I am on the right track but I am curious to know if building projects is also as important as certifications?
Where and how can I find the good mentor
i have completed my a+ n+ i did most cert on Cisco network academy i wish for cyber role, i must start pushing
Hello sis boni im a big fan of yours, i wanted to ask regarding the instrumentental you use at the beggining your videos. Is it copyright free?
Free, but I have no idea where I got it from. It was in 2022, and I never changed it. I'm such a rigid person, don't like admin, if I find something that I like, I stick to it. 😄😄😄
I believe I'll be there soon I just need to write my certificates since I've been doing bug bounty
I hope he digs into how stressfull this field is . Good salary's but i know 3 cyber specialist who experience chest pains alot lol. Looking forward to this one sis Bon🙏
Is it ? I'm really trying to decide if I should get into cloud computing or data science or cybersecurity
How did you get into Cyber security yourself Brad? We're more worried about the money than the stress for now 😂
Could you please interview a Network administrator. That's one of the paths one can take after completing CompTIA A+, Security+ and Network+.
Great interview. Perhaps one question for Ray would have been how he receives his salary from his overseas employer. Is there a third party company involved locally and handling his SARS and IRP5 or is he using his own company in SA to interface with his overseas company? Well done Ray, Well done Boni !!!
You just use an accountant and pay provisional tax, I do the same if I'm working as an independent contractor.
is there anyone with information of how you get those certificates like Comptia if did the course online?
okay but do you get it lets say you wrote online.

SisBoni, i really want to get into IT, problem is that ive never been exposed to the industry. What should be my next step?
Hi Ray, I'm planning on doing A+, network+ and Security+. Do you think those are good enough to land me an interview and eventually a gig in an entry level cybersec role at least? I want to become a security architect someday.
What other certs do you recommend to do to eventually get to that level? And what projects do you recommend to get experience right now?
@@liferesetwithboni not much I'm currently doing my second year in BSc Computing, but I have done a lot of coding in the recent years after high school.
Is it possible to go straight into a cyber security junior role or is compulsory to start very basic with something like help desk or it support
Wish it could be live so we can ask questions...
Would he recommend coding bootcamp for cyber security or one must do I. T. Diploma /Degree...
Sesi Boni please ask him is it a must to start with End user or i can just get A+ and N+ to get entry level job and work my way up to cyber?
Did you watch the video? He didn't speak about End User, only spoke about A+ and N+ , so take your time and watch the video. I think we covered everything.
Ray made a good decision is deciding to stay. I calculated & adjusted the for different lifestyle in companies & 135k in South Africa is higher than 195k in the USA
@@TimukudzeDhlula If you live on R40k/m in South Africa, it'd cost R99k/m to maintain the same lifestyle in USA.
If an employer moves you to USA & increases your salary from R40k to R99k, it is not an increase. You're still in the same place. If it increases from R40k to R80k, it is a salary decrease.
$135k lifestyle in SA = $338k lifestyle in USA.
$78k lifestyle in SA = $195k lifestyle in USA.
So it was really between choosing a $78k salary, & a $135k salary.

Question for Rey
Regarding the Comptia certifications, how did you study for the A+ and N+? Did you buy the exam voucher only and study through sites like Udemy or got exam voucher with those additional stuff?
Asking because I am interested in Comptia certifications as well but feel like I have one chance cos if i do manage to buy it i cannot afford (financially, not just saying)to fail because of financial situation so if you don't mind, can you break it down how you studied for them and give pointers as well.
Thanks 👍🏿, sorry for long paragraph.
I made the comment before finishing the video, so I saw he spoke what I asked but he add on if there's more to be said.
Professor Messor on UA-cam has a full playlist covering the entire exam for A+, N+ and security+. That would be all you need to pass.
Edit: the exam voucher can be purchased through Pearson VUE. Probably best to write onsite instead of online to avoid problems.
Hi Boni please do local government ie Councillors, pr councillors etc
I am into the Software industry but it's hard to break into the industry special as junior Dev from bootcamp grabs
you need to do projects.
having your own portfolio of projects that showcase potent skill is even better than having qualifications.
Never clicked so fast
Lol but don't be naughty, watch the video and use time stamps if you must.
Can you get into IT or cyber security with BSc in physics and applied mathematics? 🤔
Can he breakdown the roles & responsibilities of a Cybersecurity Analyst
The roles and responsibilities are a bit much to type out. But a quick look on Indeed for the cyber security analyst job lists out most of these items. Minor changes here and there for each company.
Hey everyone, I came across the mention of creating a WhatsApp group in another video. Does anyone have the link? If not, could we explore the idea of starting one to share opportunities, network, and exchange advice about the cyber/tech industry? This could be really beneficial for those of us aiming to enter the field or advance our careers.
@Sis Boni, unsure about the feasibility, but could you please inquire if there's interest in providing mentorship programs? Overseas, there's a similar initiative that they do called Cyber Mentor Dojo. Even if there's a small fee for consultations, perhaps just an hour session for career guidance or advice, it could be valuable. I mention the charging aspect because, frankly, some information is readily available through Google searches. Judging by comments here and in other videos, it appears that some individuals are hesitant to conduct their own research and prefer a more direct approach. It's essential to respect the mentors' time and avoid wasting it on information easily accessible through a quick search.
And some don't even want to watch a you tube video. They want Tik tok clips😄
This will be admin intense, and at the moment, I'm shying away from it. In my ideal world, it's something that should be sponsored by a company, not individuals, but at the moment, I'm collecting data to compile a proposal. We need data to support the need for a service.
I hope and wish that with my IT DIMPLOMA I'LL get a job like Rey...I'm doing my third year and I wish I could get a internship
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Am planning to get a Higher Certificate in Cyber Security from a private institution but i dont have a Degree, will it be possible to get employment after am done. I only hold a Diploma in Accounting
That might be a waste of money. There's no specific degree for cyber security in SA. Look at getting certificates and the job first. You can always come back to a degree if you are looking at going into management.
Thank you for such helpful advise, this is exactly what i wanted to know. God bless you ✌🏿
This is a beautiful , Thank you so much for the video.
Advice :
If someone wants to stay anonymous I don't think it's a good idea to ask them personal questions like which school they attended ,Their maths teacher , which year they matriculated because with quick OSINT you can find their real identity.
Question for Rey:
He mentioned most of the jobs he got in the past were through referrals , He didn't go through the traditional method of applying online , doing assessment , interviews etc
My question is , Do you know any platform or recruitment agency where one could use to apply for cyber security remote jobs . I have noticed a majority only cater to US Citizens
The good thing is that we discuss the questions first, so he is comfortable with sharing. All my guests see their questions first and remove what they don't want to talk about. I never ambushed, and that's why my videos have never been taken down, cos we make sure that we are on the same page before recording and after recording we double check what I need to edit out. So no worries, I know you didn't mean it in a bad way.
I currently have an IT Diploma and work as a Cyber Cadet at Local Municipal Library so I do basic software and upgrade IT repairs I really want to know the certifications that he did to get his foot at the door in Cyber Security. I wanted to do Data Science but after seeing your snippet on TikTok I'm interested. I just need the step by step certification I should do
You can start with Security+ , Cybersecurity, then you will go to higher certs as you proceed

What's the day2day like as Senior Cybersecurity Analyst?
Most times it is very repetitive, unless there's some kind of crisis. The idea is to address issues that could be a problem. So lots of reporting, investigations, project implementation, and meetings take place.
What are the main challenges in his current role?
Noted! But i heard you sometimes don't sleep at all, sometimes 1 or 2 hr sleep.
Main challenges are the time and the people. Time because things take a while to get going, and issues that pop up cause big delays. People because teams don't want to be told that their system is faulty, most are hard headed and you need to somehow convince them that it is a legitimate problem that needs resolving.
I did:
1. Cisco Networking devices and configuration.
2. Cisco helpdesk
3. Java script
4. Cyber security management

@mister17185able I am looking to do CISA, I would like ask few questions is it okay with you?
It's mostly on the job experience with auditing that really helps to pass also cousera has some really good training material
Even with CISA and CISM I was earning around 35k. The only difference is the company. The best way to increase your salary when getting these big certificates is to change jobs. It's tough though.
Awesome Interview, glad I watched it. My IT career started the same as Ray. (driver for IT company 🚚)
Good advice from Ray. Thanks for sharing and all the best. Thnx sis Boni.👌
OMG email me , you can wear a mask as well, xaba.bonisile@gmail.com.
Is Cousera certificates accredited?
Most courses on courses are offered by universities, so they are accredited by that university. I'll be doing more on this .
@liferesetwithboni Thanks that was my concern because I have a certification in IT Project Management and Cybersecurity been applying not considered so I wanna know which jobs or is it my resume that needs a bit of an adjustment?
Coursea has great courses but I'd advise certications that are industry recognised. Eg Aws is from Amazon, Microsoft has its own certs that need a real exam. Most coursera course wont give an exam as far as i know
This guy doesn’t know security he is giving away more information which I can pinpoint him. Now I know he is Coloured Guy in Cape Town, know where he study. His Maths teacher. The year he completed School
