  • Recorded and Digitalized off a pre recorded VHS an original HSE Broadcast from the Houston Astrodome with Bruce Gietzen, Bill Brown, Milo Hamilton and Enos Cabell.
Both top starters Dwight Gooden for the Mets and Mike Scott given up 12 runs by the sixth inning as Houston sores early, by stealing bases including Bill Doran stealing home in the 1st as both teams put up numbers throughout the game including Homeruns by Darryl Strawberry in the 4th off Scott his 10th of the early season and Matt Davis in the 4th inning off Gooden his 8th of the season.
Mets were down by 3 going into the 9th inning and big hit by Tim Teufel that was clearly a homerun (after seeing multi angle replays) but the Mets come up with the 3 big runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings where the Mets manage a run in the 10th off Houston reliever Dave Smith and Terry Leach who came into the game in the ninth shuts the door on Houston in the 10 and comes up with his first win of the 1988 MLB season.
*Missing some pitches here and there at the start of innings from the original recording of this game

Who would give this a thumbs down? This is great vintage ‘80s baseball. Thanks for posting it.

My first mlb game ever was at the Astrodome. 1989 season, pirates vs Astros. It was a school trip at Baptist school I attended. I can't remember anything about the game except that Bill Doran had the go ahead RBI. I'm sure Bonds and Bonilla played......I just remembered sitting with a gal who was a grade older than me and having a good time.

Doc would lose that early signature wind up later on in his career, but it was a thing a beauty in his career.

With Enos Cabell doing color in innings 8-10 probably because Gietzen was heading for the field to do postgame interviews.

Doc Gooden in his prime was electric. IMNSHO, one whisker beneath Nolan Ryan in his prime. But exciting to watch...even if he was killing your team, lol.

Was 1988 the last season the Dome had the Original Scoreboard?

How did you obtain the HSE Broadcast? Did you have satellite TV in the 1980s?

Toni from the mid 80s I used to record many games and being in NJ and a huge Mets as you can see most of the games I have are Mets and WOR.
when the 90s came around i used to trade games for games on VHS to other collectors who were like me collecting and recording game in Chicago (WGN) some in Cincinnati Houston etc. having a large collection was easy to trade game for games.
so to answer your question I must’ve received this game in the early 90s via trade
