Imagine is you could file a claim on your auto insurance when your car is 10 years old with 250K miles on it when you get a rock fling up against it and putting a small dent in the hood and having the insurance carrier pay you for a brand new car... This is exactly what is happening with property insurance....... It is a complete and total SCAM!
Personal experience with my insurance company tells me that they low ball the claim or deny it totally. After 2004 Charlie made a direct hit on my home, 2 trees smashed through the roof, the first State Farm adjuster said the damage was about 17K.......that seemed way too low so I asked for another adjuster to come out. Husband and wife team, Iowa farmers that went around the country to storm damage sites for State Farm, when they looked at the first adjuster amount and then saw my house, they apologized in kind and they new amount went up to 34K, the proper amount to repair my home. So, I am hearing about all this roof fraud and yeah, it happens, but when a claim is valid, the insurance companies need to pay up and this will reduce the added huge cost of litigation.......IMO.....These were both State Farm authorized adjusters , how could they be so far off????
This is a disappointingly skewed explanation of the causes of homeowner insurance rate increases. There are other factors that weren't even mentioned, like increased cost of materials, increased frequency and intensity of disasters, and the increasing cost of re-insurance (the insurance that insurance companies need to make sure they have sufficient funding to cover losses). Re-insurance that carriers pay accounts for about 50% of the cost of homeowner's insurance in Florida. It creates a false narrative to leave out these important details.
Insurance in general is the legal way in the US to rip people off. I know someone who owns an insurance company. It cost him $72 per month to insure my home and both my autos. He then showed me an average cost from the competition of what they would charge me per month and then it gives him what he should charge me which the cheapest is $3900 annually. So doing the math it actually cost $864 annually for the policy but insurance companies are allowed to inflate resulting in a $3,036 annual profit. I have no claims, tickets or accidents. Now consider this insurance guy has 5300 customers at this 1 single insurance company, has super nice cars and multiple homes not to mention the guy is always traveling. If he has 5300 customers like me then his annual profits are over $16 million at this 1 single office and this guy has 8 offices. I have to play it off with the guy cause he is a nice guy and sort of like family to us but holy crap this is insanity for companies to profit like that.
Very hard to feel sorry for corrupt insurance companies that take our money for decades and as soon as you have a claim they don’t wanna pay or they pay and drop you like a bad habit and they try to black ball you from getting insurance from their competitors at a fair rate Their practices are the biggest scam and this is their karma
exactly. They take your premiums all the same no matter how old your roof is and when you file a claim they want to give you the deprciated value of your roof minus the deductible also of course. Insurance is the scammer.
the insurance companies take the premium every month, the same premium no matter if its a new roof or an old one, if anything they take more money when its an older roof but when the roof gets damaged they dont want to pay for it. They like to collect the premiumus all the same though.
Roofing scams are a problem . But the bigger issue for Insurance companies is the massive growth that's taken place along Florida's Coastlines . And instead of Homes being worth $150,000.00 , now their Value is 3 times that or more . All it will take is a Cat 4 or 5 Hurricane to hit a Coastal Area such as Tampa or Miami ? And you & your Insurance Company will be in some very deep doo doo .
In Texas a 1500 sq. ft. home's insurance runs over $ 1,650. per year; roof was replaced 16 years ago and they want to stop full coverage. Shingles came with a 30 year warranty and we had the roof inspected regularly and no problems found.

And then all the ones that are committing insurance fraud are reaping the rewards why the ones who pay and have no claims they get charged more money appalling Insurance scams running in circles this is disgusting from the insurance people who commit crimes to the people who commit insurance fraud. Makes people not want to have insurance probably better just to save your money and insure yourself
Insurance companies are going broke because contractors are knocking on doors of houses with old Shingles trying to get insurance co to pay - solution - change coverage so whole house excluding shingles are covered - otherwise no insurance or premiums thru the roof
Roofers are pushy, full of crap, and crooked... that's not exclusive to Florida. Florida's republican government has added to the burden though. We get hail and that's like ringing the dinner bell for contractors. One roofer wanted me to sign something and it said that even if I changed my mind and didn't go with him, I still had to pay him and he said he was good at getting extra money from the insurance. Why would I want him to get EXTRA money? I decided to lie to him and tell him I had to talk it over with my (nonexistent) boyfriend .. you know big man makes the decisions and woman just goes along with it... I figured he'd accept that and he did. i quit answering the door or the phone.
I saw some mold near the roof on one of the houses you showed. That will destroy your house's siding and will spread. Forget the roof; deal with your mold before it deals with you.
People are so gullible. Here you have an attorney stating he makes "no more than the roof", that is double the cost, but everyone believes carriers are the problem. This is abuse of the legal system not the cost of a roof that is a problem. Judges are saying it, not just carriers. Attorneys make a point of adding delays to beef up their fees. He is ignoring the fact that the current situation is unique to FL. Florida has less than 10% of total claims yet has 78% of all property suits filed nationwide, to give it perspective. Thirty years ago attorneys would not take property claims because there was no money in it, now look. Cap attorney fees for insurance proceeds, ACV coverage is NOT the answer.
Overinflated housing prices make the insuring of these homes more risky. Risk means larger potential loses. Insurance companies are just reacting to the market. Blame the housing boom and realtor greed.
The Ins company's are sending out the roofing letters as I type. I have 3 neighbors that are getting new roofs or they will be dropped. And soon your new roof will be pro-rated, like a car battery...
Whine, whine, whine. You guys use most of the benefits by submitting the most claims, and the rest of the nation also picks up that tab. Just pay your fair share and just shut up already. Maybe we should take Florida out if the insurance pool and let them realize how much the rest of the nation also supports them?
So instead of going after the contractors committing fraud to recoup their costs, insurance companies play the game and just roll over the costs to the consumer. Seems like whoever owns or has majority interest in these insurance companies also have a vested interest in the roofing industries.
