From your tasting notes, it sounds right up my alley since I love pecans, caramel and cocoa! I think it could one of those bottles that you aren't sure about at first, but then love it by the time it's finished. I love trying different stuff, so I'm gonna pick some up!
I bought this bottle thinking it was a typical Woodford Reserve. When I tried it, I didn't know what was going on. I thought perhaps it was a bad bottle (if such a thing exists). Then I found out what I had bought. I just tried it during your video to see how my impressions compared. My nose picks up varnish or paint thinner (I'm serious). The taste, however, is better, but still not good. I can see where you get the pecan, but, to me, it's the taste of old pecans, perhaps those that have sat on the ground beneath the tree for some weeks before being shelled. As you can tell, I'm not a fan.
Thanks for the review. The cask strength at a reasonable price would be a welcome addition to their core range. The other reviews I've see of this are like yours not enthusiastic. If they had done a 51% Wheat I think that would be a perfect accompaniment to the Bourbon and Rye (the rye is my favorite). Cheers
Man, I love this whiskey! There is nothing on the market like it, which worries me no end. I fear Woodford Reserve pulling it. But I will enjoy it as much as I can until that day comes.
Great review on the Woodford Reserve, I appreciate your honesty in saying of the core range it is your least favorite, because I've almost picked it up a couple of times. So, maybe a pour from a bar before purchase of the bottle, since that pine note doesn't quite resonate with me. Also for your bet a possible whisky could be Haig Club. Cheers!
The taste and high malt in the mash suggests to me that it would be very delicious. Funny how we always want something different but often hate the new experience.
It sounded (?) very interesting when you started describing carmel, pecans, and chocolate. Then you threw the mint in there, and I started thinking of a chocolate mint cookie. Then, when you said it was like a liqueur, and was thick, I didn't really know what to think. Maybe I will try a shot at a bar, but not going to invest in a bottle if you say "skip it." Thanks for the video.
Agree it is just weird. Its got a funk to it. I much prefer their other 3 core line products. Also to me the last couple of master collections have not been great either.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Yes the barrel proof is fine but for $125 it should be great. The cherry wood is bad and the oat is absolutely horrible. One of the worst bourbons I have ever had. Koval Oat is fantastic though.
WEGMANS!!! The greatest food (and liquor?) store! Bill, This sounds like a real wild ride for both the nose and then the taste. I'll have to try a glass at the bar and see. I think you really liked the Woodford Double Oak? Thanks for the detailed review, as always. Great bet. Worst whisky = for me it was Glenfiddich Fire and Cane. Gonna try a Laphroig LORE tonight and see if that takes the worst spot.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Just tried the sample of LORE and not too bad. Crazy at $120. The nose was a bit too much, kinda smoky pine tar?, but taste was better than Fire and Cane. I bought a bottle of McAffee's Benchmark No 8 around Christmas for $9 and liked that much better than Fire and Cane.
Hi Bill , Great timing , I was going to buy another bottle of Woodford and if I would have seen this I might have been tempted to try it. However given another informative review , I think I will stick to the regular. I just looked on NHLC`s web site and I did not see it listed. So , you want an ugly bottle of whisky , well lets just hope the Pat`s win this year , if they lose you could do a bottle of Cutty Sark , blended scotch . From way back in the day I used to drink the stuff , my favorite whiskey or whisky glass is a Cutty Sark glass that came with a bottle I bought , years ago , way before I started buying The Dalmore for 24.95 , now it is an 80 dollar whisky. For time and space reference !! LOL The Super Bowl will be a good game , if the coach behaves himself and does not bench a key player for "enjoying the moment" or breaking curfew . Ram`s are tuff , but I think they a beatable IF the Pat`s bring Brady , Gronk and the rest of the offense . There "A" game , anything less and it will fall apart by the end of the 3rd quarter. If they win #6 they will no longer be a dynasty , so we need to invent a new word !! Thanks for the review , like I said I was going to buy a bottle and if NH carried it , I might have been tempted , but now the Distillers Select will do nicely , Take care , and Go Pat`s !! , later , Gary
If we are talking about trash-tier whiskeys ,Red label and Ballantines/Haig (the OG ones) are by far the worst substances that i have ever experienced. Out of the 3, the worst i believe is Haig, but that can vary from one person to another.
There are some great (read: absolutely atrocious) whiskey from Brazil, Egypt, and Taiwan/China that tries to pass itself off as Scotch. But I think they won't be obtainable. Canadian Mist then?
Strange taste combination, not bad, just strange or diferent. Bad whiskies hmmm theres a whisky around these places, named Grand Grisly, it's supposed to be a rye, it's Canadian, but it's marketed as a Canadian "Rye for those who like tequila". It's awfull, no rye, just alcohol burn, the bottle doesn't even say who makes it, just that it's Canadian, a whisky and a rye. I don't think you're going to be able to get your hands on one of these bottles over there, but rest assured yo're better of not tsting this stuff!.

I like your attitude!
Your my favorite reviewer enjoy all of them thanks 💪🏻
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying the reviews

Very informative, unbiased, with a smattering of humour!

0:00 most elegant "hello" ever☺️
I'm glad you like it :)
You should also get some of the Corsair whiskeys. I went to the Distillery here in Nashville the other day and they make some great stuff!

Excellent review! Thank-you!
I wish I liked this one more
Cheers Bill, one I've not yet had but it sounds intriguing enough to make me want to know what that flavor profile is.
Let's do a live stream together and drink it!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary sounds good to me. Sounded very interesting based on how you described it. Let's talk about that soon. Cheers Bill
Sounds good! Maybe 2 weeks from this Friday. Send me an email
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary hey Bill I'll check my schedule to see if that would work, Cheers!

If you lose your bet you should drink Black Velvet or Heaven Hill lol. Love the reviews you do a great job at it. Cheers!
I love the Woodford straight malt.
I imagine loads of people do. Definitely not for me though

I really enjoy this one, it is very different, bit I like it. Great review!

You got it. I think it's totally worth a dram... just not likely worth a bottle
You should drink Crown Apple if they lose...
Oof
Agree it is just weird. Its got a funk to it. I much prefer their other 3 core line products. Also to me the last couple of master collections have not been great either.
I only have had the barrel proof and I enjoyed it but have heard bad things about most of the others

I guess I should be happy they didnt send me a bottle if the oat. I hate bashing free whiskey
It sounds like a bit of an enigma - interesting flavour profile!
Nice Review! I like the bet idea too! Gonna have to think of some terrible whiskies for you just in case!
The Spirit Monk[e]y finds KINGS PARK SCOTCH to be utterly undrinkable.
Sounds perfect
Think I'm gonna do a half and half, whiskey and bourbon, and see what I get. other than sick. Enjoyed the review!
Only thing is they need to up their ABV. As a scotch drinker I’m sure I’d like this.
Whiskey Dic you mentioned Wegmans, are you in NY?
MA

It's different! Alongside other mash bills (i.e.bourbons and American ryes) it's a nice contrast!
Is whiskey something youre just born loving or do you have to get used to drinking it? Coz I'd love to get into it but it's just not for me
I never disliked it but I definitely drank jack and cokes for a LONG time before I got into better whiskies
Oh right cool, gr8 vid as always
Thanks!
The regular Woodford Reserve is my “go to” on an airline. Sorry, I don’t watch football.
Old Crow bourbon, or Midnight Moon corn whiskey. Both of which I find to be horrendous. Or Maker's Mark, oddly enough....
It's so funny to me how many people dont like MM
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary It has this weird sour/spoiled flavor on the finish that I find very odd, and not at all enjoyable.
Wasn’t paying attention and grabbed this yesterday it’s OK But distillers select is a lot better
Awww
I don't know what to do with my hands
How about a local grocery store generic brand whiskey or JW Red label. Haha!
No JW RED!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary haha. So, maybe a generic grocery store whiskey?

WINCHESTER EXTRA SMOOTH BOURBON there is nothing worse on this great earth
Fighting Cock... Could be the worst lol
Someone's showing some balls in releasing this whiskey... Now, is that 51% malted barley? etc.
Sure is
Listen up Yanks, if you're intending to produce real whisky, don't screw up malted barley with your frickin cattlefeed corn!
got that?
Kentucky Deluxe!!!

I agree with my descriptors giving that impression but the nose doesnt smell like an IPA. I must not have described it well

Am I the only 1 who dosent get a finish on this ? It honestly disappears flavor wise in my mouth. Interesting nose but overall I'm not a fan of this 1
its not a whiskey but how about Malort
That just sounds like a mistake
Not your fathers bourbon
I doubt you'll have to drink this nasty one . . . . Amador Straight Hop-Flavored Whiskey
Dear god...
