I hope you rethink your approach next time you see a religious comment, you're no scientist, I can tell. You say stop reading fictional books and focus on science and studies, when all you do is eat up that very propaganda. EXACTLYYY! i went out for coffee the other day with my friends I hadnt seen for a while, and we were talking about our "ideal relationships" and while they were explaining their idea of love, I felt so disconnected from what they were saying. Most people see love as this possesive thing, wether I believe that when you truly love someone, you simply just let them be. Like a flower in a garden , if you truly love it, you just let it be. You dont "owe" them, you just embrace who they are, and allow space. You dont seek to drain their energy, as you have found the source of love within you, you simply share this beautiful thing. You aknowdlege who they are. Thats how i see love. So yeah, I guess we can all redefine the idea of love.

Appreciation is probably the highest form of love. You're not trying to change anyone. You're not trying to control anyone; nor are you being jealous. You love someone for who they are and what they did of their own free-will. It's as pure as loving a beautiful flower in nature.
Gotta disagree man - appreciation requires an act to be done by somebody else and then in return, you give them your appreciation for that... Is that really the highest form of love? I think you were on the right track but got a little twisted... I think the highest form of love is seeing someone who really needs you and stepping up to do something about it even though you realize you didn't have to. That guy sitting at the end of the sidewalk, homeless, in need of a job... What can you do for that guy today? He's been there for a month, has done nothing to deserve anything from you, but you realize that he's just like you in every way but in circumstance. That kinda empathy, that's pure baby. I think there's a select few examples of couples, married couples that have been together forever, are completely faithful and really understand each other and work hard to be what the other person needs at the end of the day to work through life in a way that is meaningful and satisfying for both of them and their kids. I think that's a pure kind of love to, probably one of the most fulfilling too - but it's rare for people to get married and for that to be the outcome these days. When it happens though, it's beautiful. I just think there's way more to love than appreciation :P

I understand that. I just got out of a relationship where it was intense and the best relationship I have had. But it ended because of I have never healed from past trauma. I haven't loved myself enough and because of that it affected the relationship. So now I have to focus on myself. But I will always love the girl, not in a romantic way. But for the part she played in my life.
I still don't think you really need to love yourself first, because I think we grow and learn to accept ourselves as we share our love with others. So maybe we have to love ourselves enough to allow ourselves to share love, but I don't think we have to become "perfect" to love others. I think it's a bit of both - loving others and learning to love ourselves at once.

When I was younger, a kid who was in 3rd while I was in fourth grade told me, "You're too ugly to love," and that is something I repeat to myself every day. I don't really have a problem with the person who said it, it's just the fact that someone did. Now whenever I want to reciprocate love, I get this irrational fear and it begins suffocating my feelings and driving me into a hole. I'm so afraid someone will say it again and leave me because of that same reason. Love is something that curates fear for me, that's why I try to avoid it.
I feel ya. I honestly scared what would people think of me because of my appearance. They keep calling me a rabbit, monkey, etc. Which hurts me so much, my classmate is full of boys and just two girls. Me and my friend. And they joke a lot, but like saying to me i look like a monkey hurts my heart so much that every night i would think of it and just cry.

I'd be VERY interested to hear about your relationships . . . you are so very wise, I wonder if its so easy for you to always be so aware when you're heart is most vulnerable. I've held these ideals my whole life, but when you meet someone who inspires you to open your heart wide open, all that fear that kept it closed can also surface, and it takes soooo much awareness, courage and communication to stay open, even when the person can devastate you. To stay open is the greatest and most powerful thing . . . and the hardest!
For me, its not perfect....It's a constant practice of inner development. Choosing love over anger, understanding over judgment. Relationships are great teachers.

In my opinion, those are just like fairytale stories with a ‘happily ever after’ ending. Maybe some are not. Have you ever wished, when you finished reading those books, you also had such an amazing love life? That you had met someone that amazing to love? But yet you knew that wouldnt happen?
If someone asks this question to you, “If you would choose someone to love, who would you choose?” You would most likely choose your ‘First Love’. Why? Because we hold onto the past, you want to start a new chapter in life? Then turn around and never look back, stop re-reading your old chapters.

you did a good job describing the reasons for our 50% Divorce rate in America (highest in the world). The majority of American relationships and marriages are selfish at its core. Like you said, a person is only willing to love or do a favor for their significant other as long as they are part of the process. If your significant other wanted to continue life without you or wanted to make love with another person then these people would want no part of them or even worse try to harm them. People really should stop saying "I would do anything for him/her" unless they mean it unconditionally. Its better to be honest and say "I love my girlfriend as long as Im a part of her life and she makes "me" happy". Honestly, you'll figure out what love is by yourself. You don't need someone to tell you what it is, you need someone, or something, to show you what it is. Whether that is a pet, a hobby, yourself, or someone else such as a parent, friend, or partner.
In my opinion, love is complicated. There are two paths. One will take you to never-ending happiness. The other will destroy every last bit of your soul. You don't have to love yourself in order to love. Sometimes, you need someone else to show you how to love yourself. Someone to hold you tight, tell you you're beautiful, kiss you every morning. Make you feel special. If you're living with self-hate, you need someone that will make you change your view on things. Someone who will love you for you. Fuck all of that, "it's selfish," shit. No, it's not. We need others to care for us. Bringing our problems upon others is in our nature because we need that support. Having to love yourself before being a relationship is complete bullshit. Sometimes you need a sturdy relationship to make you love yourself because that someone finds you on the wrong path, and wants to bring you to the right one.

I was taught the wrong meaning of love my whole life (basically that it's everything you see on tumblr, books, and movies). I thought that butterflies-in-your-stomach-heart-racing-infatuation-feeling was love. For the first few months in my relationship, I actually thought I didn't love my boyfriend enough because I didn't feel that all the time. By the time I realized my views on love were wrong, it was too late and those thoughts have been branded into my head (on top of that I also suffer from OCD and anxiety, which makes it worse; basically the whole disorder is characterized by by recurring intrusive thoughts). It is not as easy for me to let go of negative thoughts as it would be for everyone else :( It is a very long and difficult battle.
I am now trying to improve myself and fully open my heart and mind so I can let a higher form of love fall into me. I do love my boyfriend, but I must admit that at times my love can be selfish and I am trying to change that for the both of us :)

+DerMeisterTimi I couldn't agree more. I do actually love myself more than I used to thanks to the support of my therapist an online friends, I used to blame myself because I couldn't find a partner. After 5 years of searching I still haven't found one. But I'm in a better place than I was and feel more hopeful after discovering a relationships coach called Bruce Muzik. I hope to apply some of his thinking if I'm ever lucky enough to have a partner.

I feel the same way about my boyfriend! I loved him when we were just friends and he liked other girls at the time, I love him now, and I will continue to love him even if we broke up. This made me cry because me and my bf are on the same running team and we've stuck together through everything. He's cheated on me and i still love him. I'm jealous of how good of a runner he is and now im questioning our relationship. I feel stupid for loving someone who would cheat on me. Prince, what should i do?
+Tomboy please look go to the UA-cam channel love at first fight. It is run by a relationship coach cold Bruce Muzik. He also has a blog site if you google his name. I'm not in a relationship yet but I feel so fortunate that I discovered him before finding a partner. I would advise against the advice Prince Ea gives here. He makes a few good points but I don't think shutting oneself off from love is the answer.

You may be giving your love to another person but if you're not compatible, you may find they're not giving it back but that's okay. You can both recognise that and move on, move forwards! 😊❤
