This song (Gray-Haired Boy) really reminds me of a Ted Talk; "Why Veterans Miss War." You should listen to it after you listen to this song if you haven't listened to it already.
I have been searching for this song for about 2-3 years now... I had a clip of the song and found a video UA-cam led me too which apperantly had a differrnt name to what its called And thus I kept searching... Until finally... I realized that Reddit was a thing. And hey... A single man sent a spotify link which I tracked to this video. Now I may finally understand the lyrics behind this somber tune.
It’s pretty miserable when you look at the 1990s outside of the west. Afghanistan falling to the Taliban during the civil war, and even the brutal stability they brought wasn’t going to last long. Kazakhstan and the other central Asian Soviet republics falling into civil conflict from Islamic Extremists flooding across the border. Transnistria, oh god not to even get into Yugoslavia. And of course the economic collapse in the former USSR and all that brought. And even if you survived the Chechen Wars, your sons get to look forward to a brother war in Ukraine.
i first saw a part of this video uploaded by my friend about 3 years ago and it has been in the back of my head since then glad i finally found the original full video
The footage of the Chechen war really captures the reality of conventional war I think. I mean the vehicles and equipment was legitimately some of the most advanced tech in the world when they came out, in the 80s and stuff. BMPs, T-80s and 72s. It’s often easy to get caught up in portraying hypothetical WW3 scenarios as flashy and super high speed/high tech. But the Chechen War really shows the reality of that. Well firstly obviously that no matter how high tech something is it still is useless if used wrong, but mainly just how gritty things really look. BMPs are covered in mud, rigged with gear and extra stuff stowed on the outside. Desantki riding on top. Engines are Smokey and wrecked/flaming vehicles are a constant sight. Obviously the Russian military was in a worse state than the Soviets, but still I think the overall look and aesthetic is much closer to what WW3 would look like. Just a much dirtier and more awful situation.

There is a translation error. Ну, а убьют, так тело принесут means "If I getting killed they'll bring my body back" and not "Well, they'll kill, they'll bring corpses", which latter is anyway a pretty nonsensical line of you think about it.
"Like a horror film run backwards, images of the war flicker through my brain. The tank in the snow with smoldering bodies on the top. The smell of burning flesh. Of rotting flesh too. Novak rotting in a grave on Anzio. Horse-Face. Knowed an old girl once. The girl, red-eyed and shivering, in the Naples Dawn. And Kerrigan. Kerrigan shuffling cards with half a hand. He was far luckier than Antonio. Yes, Antonio, trying to stand on the stumps of legs with the machine gun ripping his body. and Brandom dead under a cork tree. (quoting one of Brandon's daughter's letters) 'Deer daddy, I'm in school...'" Audie Murphy reflecting on World War Two at the end of his memoir, To Hell and Bacck
From someone who only ever know peace in life, I ask this question: Is war the only place where an adult in the modern world can find genuine friendship akin to that of innocent children yet to learn the need of money to survive? It seems everything is comercialized (and worse people act as if this is the proper way of things) these days depriving any relations or passions of its soul and replacing it with deceit, narcissm, and greed.
Not the war, but the military.... They gave you "life buddy".... After you finish military training, those buddies will not forget you and you won't forget them.... And you will feel what they feel and they feel what you feel.... You would help each other.... About wars, no one wants war.... We absolutely want peace.... Only politicians who wants war.... So to answer your questions, not wars that makes us together, but the military.... Not all countries all invader, sometimes they just defend themselves.... You only see at US and Russian militaries... While the world has a lot of countries, and they have military :))
@@ajoo129 A peacetime military are prone to the same failings as any workplace, as people become "career oriented". No one wants war, as war brings death and murder, and no sane man would want any of these things. But it is only with the very real threat of death that a group of people can start to ignore the mundanities of life collectively and act in favor of the group's collective good rather than the individual self. Take this song for example, he isn't longing for a military lifestyle, he is longing to be under fire with his friends; not necessarily to kill other people; but rather to go through hell together. As Robert E. Lee said "It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it."

Probably not. They probably died on impact or saffocated in fire.

does war really end after you have completed your mission and went home?
or the enemy only changes?

you should not forget about how it will haunt the rest of your life.
