I did the same thing on my Willys a few years ago. But I did both sides, plus moved the passenger seat inboard slightly so the two match (the passenger seat is originally outboard of center slightly due to the T-case shifters). I also sliced and narrowed my fuel tank. I removed about 5" across the center in order to push the leading edge back a bit. The stock tank protruding from beneath the seat was hitting my lower calves and irritating. I have a 10 gallon fuel cell under the bed so I retained adequate fuel capacity.
Its in great shape overall, virtually no rust at all that I can see. He has another one with the body off of it that is completely rusted out... I will get some footage of it in the next video.
Lol... A pro would have put paper over the glass on the speedo gauges etc. Also would have covered the vinyl seat to prevent welding spatter from burning and embedding in the glass or vinyl. Learned that lesson the hard way...
@@turbocobra lol, whos trolling who.. must be a 14yo kid keyboard warrior... its a MIG he used, not a tig, rewatch and see the spatter roll across the rear seat... @10:16, if it were Tig, I wouldn't have said anything...
A true American icon, that Willys.

Nice work Gary.
I worked on one of those old Jeeps like a year ago. I couldn't figure out how to drive it with the 3 gear shifters.
Good job Gary.
Thanks Bill!
Nice video, very much appreciated.
What gauge sheet are you using?
Good fix Gary
Nice job Gary” Ouch I felt that...
I did the same thing on my 73' CJ5!
Where u located?
I guess it is common in Texas but up here that thing would be nothing but a pile of rust.

Should have made it rounded corner where it's going to hit him in the ribs. That's corner is going to hurt when he gets bouncing around.
Don't you wish 'you guys' has invented the 'Robertson screw'?
Yeah I can smell the gas thru the screen! Just dropped my tank and smelled gas in shop for two days.
you seem quite butt hurt over this
I can not believe you did this to that gourgous stock Jeep it takes all kinds Mr bubba
Agree’d. If you want leg room and comfort buy a JK mall crawler. That thing was the best it had ever been when it came through the door.
Oh no, that’s a rare Jeep, but I understand,
That's a bubba hack Job if I ever seen one.
No gloves? All that UV radiation!! Oh, where is the online safety police when you need them?
My finger tips are like leather, and I wear sun block for UV ... anything else for the safety people ? Or are all the "real" fabricators on instagram?
...wheel gaurd. 😅
At least cover up the seat before you weld!
It's not pronounced Willy's it's pronounced Willis it's a short I sound for the Y
