One Winged Angel Performed by North Hunterdon High School

- One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII performed by students at North Hunterdon High School. This performance was done by a student organized group made up of some of the most talented students in the NHHS music department. One Winged Angel was performed on two occasions, this one (during the Hunterdon County Teen Arts Festival) where it received the honor of being named an "Exemplary Ensemble" which prior to the State Teen Arts shutdown would entitle us to attend and perform at a state level Teen Arts festival, and at the 2009 music department Music Awards Banquet.
The band arrangement was compiled by Arnold Morrison and the choral arrangement was compiled by a former NHHS student currently attending Westminster Music Conservatory in Princeton, NJ Micheal Greulich. Over the span of many months Mike Greulich, 1st clarinet ensemble member Dan Lee, and I compiled Mr. Morrison's work into a new, transposed, master score for distribution. The ensemble rehearsed together over the span of three months once every Tuesday in preparation for performance. The entire process from the first contact with Mr. Morrison to performance took a little over a year, but as you can see the work was well worth it!
I'm going to re-contact Mr. Moriosn and see about getting our revised music up on his website located at www.finalfantas.... If everything goes up a couple of words to the wise. The One Winged Angel score is VERY VERY DIFFICULT for both band and choir. If you are to successfully perform One Winged Angel you MUST have an extraordinarily talented woodwind section. In addition, band members will require a great deal of endurance as every part plays pretty much every measure of the piece non-stop. I was very blessed to have not only fantastic performers, but a very supportive and talented set of department staff as well, including advice from one individual who served as a writer for the AP Music Theory exam. I guess the basic point I'm trying to make is don't go over your head, but I encourage anyone with enough passion to get out there and give it a try; you won't regret it.
Also, a big thanks to the Johnson family for this performance video! You can sort of tell whose parents were filming, so I did my best to add scenes from the game over-top a good bit of the footage to make some interesting scenery.

It's funny as to how many people know this song. I have to wonder though of how many people know the game it's self and of how big it was when it first came out.
This is pretty sweet. If only our band could play this well. But why is their more people in choir it seems then there are in band? You have to get that awesome music out to at least half the juniors and seniors.

@incognito217 I disagree. Negativity discourages people from wanting to even try again. I'm a firm believer in positive reinforcement for I have found that when people are told what they have done well, they will do it again.

Since when do you have the authority to tell these students how to get better, that kind of criticism should be relayed by the students' band director.
Outstanding job! Beautifuly done! My sister is in band, I know she would go insane if they were able to do this song!! Such a difficult song, what a great job! xD

Some of you guys are forgetting these are high school students. Give them a break. Sure, maybe this piece is a little too "advanced". But they still did an ok job.
Final fantasy 7
It was a band arrangement. (I found the same part that they we using.) It was only brass, woodwinds, and percussion. They interpreted the choir in as well. I have been trying to get my band director to let us do a combined performance like that. (I play 2nd trumpet.)
To all viewers, there is a concert band version arranged by Ralph Ford which you can buy online. It's in a book called Video Games Live - Part 2, along with Myst III Main Theme and Bounty Hunter Theme, $12 for conductor's score, $76 for all parts separated. I bought the $12 one cuz I didn't know what I was getting (i'm not really in the know how of band & orchestra), but it seems to be a good arrangement. can't go wrong with it. just add the choir. :]
While i don't agree with his tone, i do have to agree that the choir does need a bit more "Umph" to it. The Latin chanting needs to sound powerful but it seems just so light hearted. But nonetheless this is still pretty damn good :)

Pretty good for high school students, needs a few tweaks here and there but overall 5/5. I should get my music teachers convinced to do this song :D.

@bigcheesy95 It was rumored that they made 'One Winged Angel' difficult on purpose to not be able to fully capture the greatness of the song. In other words, they don't want the original to be out-shined
@MsChandlerJohnson interesting. some of us actually try to arrange this, succeed, and none of us want to share it hahah. well, if we could figure out how to make official arrangements that would sell, that would help all of us. i may arrange my own if no one wants to share with me. :] (i don't mind the not sharing part. i understand, because we actually do the work no one else wants to!)

This song is about as hard to perform as Sephiroth was to defeat in the actual game. .......they probly did that on purpose.
