Hi Mike, Thanks for the tutorials and info. It's good to know some basics. Ive enjoyed testing stuff like this at home in the yard just in case.

Testing is good, I learned a ton of stuff by practicing with my tarps. I have a few new tests to do in the next few weeks as well. Have a great day! Mike.

Age, I have a full page on my site with all the shelter info, quite a few unlisted videos that you can't see on UA-cam as well. Lots of info on Tarps, Hammocks & Tents. Here ya go - Under the main Bushcraft section. hobbieshobo.ca/home/outdoors/bushcraft/shelters/

I need to work on some of these skills, knots etc you forget if you never use them regularly. Thanks for sharing! There's arbutus in Northern California for sure too btw, I was surprised how far inland we saw it.

There's only a few knots you need to know to cover 90% of what you need to do! Once you learn the basics of knots the rest come easy! Arbutus have become one of my favourite trees out here.

It's a "Protected Native Heritage Site", no alteration of the ground allowed without a permit. It's right on the coast, beside the Pulp & Paper Mill, it was used for company Bar-B-Ques and social events until it was returned to the Natives. It's very close to home, quiet and not many people go there these days which makes it the perfect place for me to practice with my tarps & tents as well as any other bushcraft skills I want to practice or video. Have a great day B&B. Keep that 3d printer warmed up! Mike.

Im a belly sleeper so i'll skip the hammock setups, but some useful setups there!

Same here, belly sleeper, hammock seemed to work OK though. The further North you go, the more specialized a hammock becomes. Best in hot areas. Thanks for watching. Mike.

Tarpaulins are good shelters. Sure, they don't protect as well as tents, but they are adjustable and weigh less. And they are cheaper than tents. If a tent costs the same as a tarpaulin, you should not buy one. I have tried the hammock a couple of times. I guess they're not my thing. When using tarps, it's good to know different knots. Of course, different knots are necessary anyway. You have to practice them so you don't forget them. It's a good idea to paint the tent sticks in a bright color. Otherwise, they are easily lost.

Hammocks take a bit of work, that's for sure! Knots are a must! I have a bunch of unlisted videos on my website you can see here if you wish. Here is the direct link to the shelter page. Enjoy, Mike.

Who cares if the tent/tarp is boring as long as it serves a purpose

Right on Jeff! I started with tarps when I was a kid, owned many tents, in fact I still have 2 nice tents but as far as I'm concerned, it's tarps for me. Much more versatile, and lighter to carry for me as a solo hiker etc.

Mike, It's pathetic that it's factual most of the population 80% don't know simple strong knots. I had a class down at work where I taught simple knot tying to the new people hired. - Dave

Dave, you're right, it's a simple life skill that many have no clue about. I have a whole page on my website just for knots and quite a few unlisted videos I haven't decided where to post (On my site) yet. You can see it here, I'd love to get sojme feedback on my site, which is another one of my many hobbies. hobbieshobo.ca/home/outdoors/bushcraft/knots-ropework/
