So totally agree, practically need an engineering degree. Good thing I have one😁. I guess me, you tube and whole bunch of sockets will be trying to do this later today.
Thanks so much for this. The battery died at work, and I couldn't get it jumped so I went and got a new battery and as all the guys at work watched I put it in like it was my job, with all the right tools and no hesitation. I'm a 57 year old woman. :-) I saved myself some money and am proud of what I did.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I'm a 58-year-old woman who just changed her own Colorado battery thanks to you! I'm forever in your debt since I live 15 miles from the nearest garage and my mechanic's schedule is literally 7 days behind schedule. Happy New Year!
Thanks for this video! Getting that crazy distribution block off the top of the battery wasn't happening till you showed the secret screwdriver trick. Nicely done!
I can't believe I had to Google how to change my battery in my 2015 Colorado. Thank you so much for the instructional video. I'm certain I would have broken/ripped apart a lot of pieces without it. I first checked my owner's manual and it wasn't even in there. And a special thanks to GM for making it so difficult...does anyone know if there is a reason for it to be held in so tightly?
The reason is simple, the engineers never have to do the work themselves. Additionally the more difficult it is the more they force people to go to the dealer to get it done therefore they make more money and you keep less of yours.
I just bought a 2015 Canyon. My Lord, what a scrappy design. I could swap my 2003 Trailblazer battery in 10 minutes. Glad this video dropped into my feed, this will prepare me for that day. Thanks for the clear instructions!
Thanks so much...followed this video step by step and install went perfectly. Can't believe how many steps and sockets were needed to install the battery, but thankfully your video got me through it without a hitch.
I've changed a lot of car batteries over the years but every car and truck is a bit different on the install. This fantastic video made my job so much easier. I had all the tools in hand first, used the flathead screwdriver trick to remove the fuse box and it was a breeze! Thanks so much for the amazing content.
When I first looked at the battery, I thought, ‘This will need to be done at the dealer or a garage.” The earliest anybody would schedule me was 3 weeks away. UA-cam time. This video is great, I never would have figured this out and this video made it easy. Thanks!
Tried to get this done at a local auto supply store, but it became very clear that the removal and install was beyond the salesperson. I had never seen a battery like that before, and I wanted to make sure someone competent did it, so I went to the dealer. Your video explained it very well. I will bookmark it, and in another 4 years, check it out and do this myself. Fabulous step-by-step description. I compliment you for it and and will subscribe.
Parents have a 2017 GMC Canyon and we left to travel a bit and before I could leave town my battery died. Popped the hood and thought I was looking at something alien on the battery. Thanks for the great info and thoroughness.
This video has been up for a while, but I decided to look at it since my original battery has been in my 2015 GMC Canyon for over 9 years (not a typo), It is obviously time to think about a replacement (ya think?) and fortunately, I found your video. Very detailed and a major time saver for those of us who have not tackled this project yet. Kudos for a job well done!
I long for the days when you removed the negative cable, removed the positive cable, lifted the battery out, then reversed the process to install the new battery. Battery replaced in less than 10 minutes. You could do it in a parking lot with one socket wrench.
Great video. It actually took me longer to watch the video than it did to change my battery! Thanks to those rocket scientists at General Motors who never miss an opportunity to make a simple procedure complex. I will sleep better knowing my battery is so securely held by all those clips. Even if I roll my truck I know the battery will still be sitting right where it should be. Now I think I will go test that theory, wish me luck :D)
Watched this twice before installing mine. Made it super easy, 20 mins. That flathead screwdriver taking off the plastic piece tip is worth money. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. Definitely is more complicated than removing terminal wires and the holding clamp. When I first looked at the battery, wondered about even attempting to replace it. I think I can do it now.
It's probably better you do it than having an auto parts company do it because they will probably break something trying to figure out how to get it out.
THANK YOU! I had to change my battery today and there is a below zero wind chill. I did not want to spend any more time than necessary out there so i watched your video. I am not sure how long I would have spent out there with numb fingers trying to feel how that clip comes of the top panel on the left side with a screw driver. There is a good chance that eventually cold fingers vs brittle plastic would have eventually lead to a broken part. (my + flap is already broken like yours did) Thanks again.
Thanks for the video.. my battery got hit by -20 weather before Christmas and took a dive.. It was the original battery from 2016 so it kept up pretty good.. I got a raplacement and wanted to check to make sure if there was anything I should be aware of and found your video.. perfect explanation of the 'secret tip'.. worked like a charm.. old battery out and new installed less than 15mins tops.. thanks again.. 🙂👍
As others mentioned thank you for the clear step by step change out and especially the secret clip to remove the battery cover... Man... Saved me cracking the cover and tons of wasted effort just to change a battery.
This video got me back on the road. It was easy to follow and I felt like someone was patiently walking me through it the whole time. Thank you so much!
Dude...you have NO idea the pain that you have saved me. I thought my wife's import was a pain to swap batteries...this is an entirely a new level. If you had not come up with the screwdriver release, the sliding the battery left, then forward, I would still be out there cussing!!!
beware that the nuts on the fuse studs my come loose as your working on the battery-make sure that they are tight or the voltage may not get to the starter-this is still a super video!--thanks
Much appreciated! Surprisingly, I had figured out the "secret tip" already, but the side and back clamps had me pinned down. Big kudos on your presentation; if you don't instruct, you should. Your voice and speak rate make an explanation worth hearing. Cheers!
Ok,,,I gotta say, this was extremely helpful!!! Because, if you dont know about the clips on the bottom, the ones you cant clearly see, it's going to really SUCK trying to pry out the 58# battery while reaching over and not wanting to scratch the fender. THANKS VERY MUCH!!!!! A simple thing made easier.
Excellent step-by-step video. Thank you, you made my GMC Canyon battery change easy. It sure ain't like the old days of removing the terminal cables and then the battery. I would add: step 0 - use an ODB II memory protector. When I disconnect the negative cable I use a plastic grocery bag to wrap the cable end and then I use a plastic wire tie to hold the cable away from the battery to be sure that it doesn't accidentally fall back against the terminal. I recommend getting a pair of oil-based battery terminal protectors. Finally, I use a 13/16 spark plug socket with a small mallet to tap the cables securely onto the new battery terminals (an old habit) and then tighten them.
Thank you soooo much for this video. Imagine my surprise when I lifted the hood of my Colorado to change the battery and saw that! My first thought was that for the first time in my life I might actually have to have a professional replace my car battery? Went through a few videos until I got to yours and you walked me through it. Thank you. Great job.
I drove Silverado trucks my whole life and the new trucks, my 2015 and 2018 batteries went out at almost exactly 2 years. I have a 2022 Colorado now for gas mileage and it looks much easier to change the Colorado battery. On a Silverado you have braces to remove and it's on passenger side back in the corner. Good video
Great work! Battery died in '16 Colorado this morning. Took about an hour taking my time. Didnt have a deep well 13mm, but a offset 9/16 wrench did the trick for the clamp bolt. You saved hours of frustration!
Your instructions were dead on perfect! Thank you! The only tip I would add is that after you move the battery away from the fender well, you need to elevate the positive terminal end of the battery to disengage the low profile hold downs before sliding the battery toward the front of the vehicle to disengage the back hold down. Thank you for your video! It’s the best one out on UA-cam especially the tip on how to remove the positive terminal fuse assembly.
Well, I just did mine thanks again for the tips, only issue i had was couldn't get the nut off the other end of the positive terminal, was afraid of breaking something, I was able to wiggle the old batt out and the new one in even with that plastic junction thingy still attached luckily. It looks like an H7 could fit, wonder if anyone has tried, searches say h6 and h7 are same width and height, but the h7 is 1.4 longer, and there are stops on the bottom of my 2020 tray that sure look like they're about that far forward of the battery? Again best video ever for this replacement!
Excellent video! Would've taken a lot of time to figure out how to replace the battery, but your video solved that. I'm glad you shot different angles of the battery, that was very useful! Changed the battery in my ZR2.
The first thing I want to thank you for your video you made it easy to switch out the battery thank you very much for your time and effort in the video very well explained step by step thanks again buddy
Thanks for the help. Another video left out the part where there are bottom clips holding the battery in place. Put it all back together before finding your video. Easy the2nd time with your help. Cheers!
Thank you soooooo much for making this video!! Especially the part taking the plastic off. The tip with the screwdriver saved me time, a headache and probably a few swear words!! 😂😂
Can't believe I had to resort to 'UA-cam' on changing a battery. Nice instructions on it. Me and plastic do not get along! Couldn't get that plastic fuse block off the battery. I know I better be gentil. All these hold downs are crazy. Where is gonna go? O well its done Thanks again
Appreciated every aspect of this video. Good lighting, nice camera angles…and the comment on that “nifty” negative terminal clamp. Thank you. I’d like to remove my front front fairing as a suggestion of a video.
Thanks for the appreciation of the work involved in setting up cameras and lighting, it's not easy! As far as a "front fairing", all I could find on that is something to do with motorcycles? Is there another name for what you are referring?
Thank you for sharing this video 👍 I saved myself about 70 bucks changing it myself 😀 and if you didn't show me step by step how to do it, I probably would have broken something and or shocked myself LOL God bless!!
Hey I'm actually stuck in the autozone parking lot right now swapping the batt out on my 2017 Colorado for the first time and it's getting kinda dark, I'm sooo glad you made this video lol thank you, that screw driver trick was a life saver🙌
Hey thanks for doing this video and the editing. I watched it last night outside an AutoZone in Colorado and the only thing keeping my hands from freezing was the engine heat haha. My battery just wouldn't budge, so I searched for a video on the topic and found this one. Saved me a lot of time and swear-jar donations. Haha.
Wow! Getting the darn distribution block was way to difficult and I had to actually google how to change a battery. The screwdriver trick worked and it was only a few minutes after that!
Great informative video. The little tricks you showed made this a super easy battery swap. Watching the video took longer than the actual work on my Canyon diesel. I even ate 2 donuts during the swap. Thank you.
Great video but one slight thing. You do not have to remove the positive cable from the fuse box. Just loosen the one black wire and then slide it off to the side. But thanks for the cool tip on the screwdriver down the slot!!!
Nice job, was there anything wrong with the original battery? Or did you just do this for demonstration purposes? It looks like the same battery went back in that you took out.
Thanks. My original battery that I bought the truck with was the one I replaced. The truck sat in the garage for about 2 1/2 weeks and when I came to start it and let the glow plugs warm up, there was a warning message that said the battery was low and I needed to start the truck right away. The truck did start even though it was in the 30's but I took that as a sign to just go ahead and replace the battery since it was over 3 1/2 years old and I didn't want to be on the side of the road with a dead battery in a few weeks. Yes good eye, it was the same battery but the new battery, I returned the core and just didn't have it any more but with the magic of cinematography who would know but you lol.
Thank you thank you thank you. You made replacing the battery on my 2016 colorado more doable. Just finished, took me alittle longer than you😊, but it's done thanks to your very informative video.👍
Have you done a video on the 2016 colorado full spark plug replacement. The intake manifold has to come off. I would greatful if you have or do it soon. It is time for spark plugs . Thanks
I have not made a "soon to be released" video on spark plug replacements yet. Is there none on the internet? If not then I should make one soon to be the 1st!
Thanks for helping me out with my change out! I could not get the block off the top and would have surely broken it if you hadn’t shown me how to remove it!
I like hearing comments like this because I had the same feeling when I started trying to remove my own battery and that's when I said I need to record this to help others too!
Thank you so much. This is a great video and you fully explain the intricacies of the Colorado battery replacement. After watching your video, I decided that the clueless parts jockey at the auto parts store might mess this up. Again many thanks for a high quality video.
Thanks for the feed back! Once I got into changing the battery I quickly saw this not being like the good ole' days and felt there needed to be a detailed video on this.
Thanks for the great video. It was very helpful when I needed to remove the battery on my 2017 Colorado. I found your trick using a screwdriver to pop the release mechanism on the positive side plastic cover very helpful!
Excellent Video, Thank YOU! My next project is replacing the Canyon/Colorado brake master cylinder. Have you considered a video on the Master Cylinder?
I was helping my boyfriend remove his battery in his 2021 Colorado, and he was getting frustrated. I left for 15 minutes to watch the first half of this video, went back, and showed him exactly how to do it, LOL 😂
Thanks a million, and a VERY well done video as well! I hope someone from Chevy sees this at some point. It's not a horrible design, but it should have been addressed in the manual, because this is very different from what most dot it yourself mechanics are used to seeing. It is more complicated that it needed to be, but then I guess they want people to go into their dealerships and pay $500 to get a battery changed.
Really good video. At 6:30 it appears you remove a plastic hold down bracket. Do you have to put that back in place before you lower the new battery back in place or did you put it back after the battery was in place? Thanks!
Thank you! When putting the new battery in, 1st put the battery in, then the hold down bracket, then the bracket post. Hope that clarifies the process.

Miss the days when it was 2 bolts and the battery was removed 😀. Thx for the detailed review on this
It's been a while since the old days of changing out a battery, until this, I didn't realize the manufacturers could make it so difficult lol.
So totally agree, practically need an engineering degree. Good thing I have one😁. I guess me, you tube and whole bunch of sockets will be trying to do this later today.
Thanks so much for this. I totally love that!!!! I too am a woman and I do a lot of maintenance on our trucks.

@@28TrucksTravel thanks, specially the screwed driver tip!
Thanks for this video! Getting that crazy distribution block off the top of the battery wasn't happening till you showed the secret screwdriver trick. Nicely done!
Sweet!
Omg that's where I was so simple yet well anyways couldn't have done it without that trick. Not as fast anyways!! 🤔🤔😂🤣😂
Perfect!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Was able to do it myself … with your detailed instructions. Save some $! From another 57 year old woman.
You're Welcome!
Thank you for the most comprehensive and easy to follow instructions on how to change the battery on a Colorado on the internet!
Thank you and it really is completely unbelievable how hard they made it LOL.
I'm doing the same thing for my GF GMC Canyon
Wow! 🙄 The trick to get the fuse block off the top may sound SOOOO simple but it's DEFINITELY a GAME CHANGER Was feeling like such an idiot!!!!
The reason is simple, the engineers never have to do the work themselves. Additionally the more difficult it is the more they force people to go to the dealer to get it done therefore they make more money and you keep less of yours.
Ya was feeling like a failure until this comment 😂
I just bought a 2015 Canyon. My Lord, what a scrappy design. I could swap my 2003 Trailblazer battery in 10 minutes. Glad this video dropped into my feed, this will prepare me for that day. Thanks for the clear instructions!

It is really inspiring to hear stories like yours and how we've help!
Parents have a 2017 GMC Canyon and we left to travel a bit and before I could leave town my battery died. Popped the hood and thought I was looking at something alien on the battery. Thanks for the great info and thoroughness.
Yep, I don't know what Chevy was thinking when they made it!
This video has been up for a while, but I decided to look at it since my original battery has been in my 2015 GMC Canyon for over 9 years (not a typo), It is obviously time to think about a replacement (ya think?) and fortunately, I found your video. Thanks for the tip on getting the plastic cover off!
LOL, the battery is actually safer than we are if there were to be an accident. :/
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Watched this twice before installing mine. Made it super easy, 20 mins. That flathead screwdriver taking off the plastic piece tip is worth money. Thanks!

So glad we could help you get out of the cold as soon as possible!

LOL, I went through ALL that so you didn't have too!
That little screwdriver tricker for the removal was insane! I struggled for so long for it to just pop off! Thanks for the tip!
I know, I spent over and hour trying to figure it out!
One of the best step-by-step videos I've seen.👍 Surprisingly reinstalling the removable hold down clamp was very easy. Thank you so much.
Thanks, before doing this myself I watched another "step by step" video and they left out half of the steps lol.
beware that the nuts on the fuse studs my come loose as your working on the battery-make sure that they are tight or the voltage may not get to the starter-this is still a super video!--thanks
Thanks for that helpful tip!
Much appreciated! Surprisingly, I had figured out the "secret tip" already, but the side and back clamps had me pinned down. Big kudos on your presentation; if you don't instruct, you should. Your voice and speak rate make an explanation worth hearing. Cheers!

I just finished and it was a job for me, but I did it and I would have never been able to do it without your video! Thanks so much!!!
Now you're ready to tackle even tougher projects!
Good to hear our video was the one to finally help you out!
Good video
I didn't know Chevy could make it any more difficult lol.
Did mine yesterday everything went nice and smooth after watching your video thanks .
Good to know!
Thank you so much! I would have never been able to replace the battery without your well spoken and in depth explanation. Not all heros wear capes.
Thanks for the kind words!
Saving the planet one battery terminal at a time :D
Thank you!!! I just changed this thing in like 20 mins in a sketchy ass neighborhood in memphis. Im glad i watched this before i got there.
Glad the video helped you speedily get through it!
Great work! Battery died in '16 Colorado this morning. Took about an hour taking my time. Didnt have a deep well 13mm, but a offset 9/16 wrench did the trick for the clamp bolt. You saved hours of frustration!
Super we could save you hours of your time!
Thanks for the added tip and good to hear we helped you!!!
Thanks so much for the awesome words!
Excellent video! Would've taken a lot of time to figure out how to replace the battery, but your video solved that. I'm glad you shot different angles of the battery, that was very useful! Changed the battery in my ZR2.
Glad my 2 camera angles paid off!
Very well done and professionally explained. I found this to be very helpful and confidence building. Thank you.
Glad I could give you and others confidence!
Awesome instructions. Followed everything you said and replaced battery with no issues. GMC sure doesn't make life easy.
I hope GM puts me in charge of the next battery placement design lol.
Thank you so much, this video is very helpful! That plastic cap is a pain in the neck indeed.
Yes we didn't realize how helpful this video would be until after we posted it!
Many thanks, saved me at least an hour trying to figure this out.
Glad it helped
Appreciate the video. The trick for removing the fusebox assembly mounted on the battery was very helpful.
Yeah, otherwise it's almost impossible
The first thing I want to thank you for your video you made it easy to switch out the battery thank you very much for your time and effort in the video very well explained step by step thanks again buddy
Glad I could be of service!
Thank you very much. I was getting really frustrated with what should be a simple process. Excellent instructional video.
Its very frustrating for sure!
Thanks so much for the video. Definitely not simple and that trick with the fuse block is a life saver!
Thanks for the Video and Instructions... battery died and your video was extremely helpful!
Sorry to hear about your battery dying but glad we could help!
Thanks for the help. Another video left out the part where there are bottom clips holding the battery in place. Put it all back together before finding your video. Easy the2nd time with your help. Cheers!
Yep, our video is the most thorough out there! Good to hear we helped you!
This was extremely helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video ,cant believe i needed a video to change a battery. It was very helpful, just a minor critique would be to not call a nut a bolt.
Thanks for the tip!
Nice review. The tip on how to remove the top plastic assembly was very helpful. It no doubt saved me some time.
and it saved you from having to buy a new plastic part after potentially breaking it off! Thank you!
Thank you soooooo much for making this video!! Especially the part taking the plastic off. The tip with the screwdriver saved me time, a headache and probably a few swear words!! 😂😂
And I saved you a repair bill!
All Points Overland... Thank you so much for making this video. It made changing the battery in my Colorado a snap.
That was nice of you to say!
I know! I started changing the battery and discovered it was really difficult and then I went to YT and found nothing at the time!
Fabulous! I got the battery out easily and I will watch the video again tomorrow before I install the new one. Thank you!
Thanks for the 2x watch time!
That is really good to hear we are saving people money!!!
Thanks for this. Saved me much frustration of figuring out those tips on my own.
Hey I'm actually stuck in the autozone parking lot right now swapping the batt out on my 2017 Colorado for the first time and it's getting kinda dark, I'm sooo glad you made this video lol thank you, that screw driver trick was a life saver🙌
We like hearing comments like this!
Outstanding, I just changed my battery in a 2015 chev colorado. So much easier with the video. Thanks
You're welcome!
Haha.
Glad you didn't freeze!
I just changed my battery using this video as a guide. Thank you so much! Great help!
You are welcome!
Your tips about using the screw driver sure saved me today....thanks a ton
It took some trial and error for me so I'm glad it saved you some time!
Excellent how to video! A must watch if this will be your first time changing your Colorado battery. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words!
Wow! Getting the darn distribution block was way to difficult and I had to actually google how to change a battery. The screwdriver trick worked and it was only a few minutes after that!
Glad we could make it easy for you!
Thanks! Just what I needed for my 2015 GMC Canyon! I needed the "Secret Tips"! Big Thumbs UP!
Right on!
Great informative video. The little tricks you showed made this a super easy battery swap. Watching the video took longer than the actual work on my Canyon diesel. I even ate 2 donuts during the swap. Thank you.
I wish I had 2 donuts on my battery swap.
One of the best instructional videos out here. Thanks a lot!!
One of the best comments out there!
Do you need to use a battery tender? any issues with a radio code or anything like that after removing the battery
Some people said everything reset without a battery tender but I didn't use one and I don't recall having to reset anything except the radio channels.
Great video but one slight thing. You do not have to remove the positive cable from the fuse box. Just loosen the one black wire and then slide it off to the side. But thanks for the cool tip on the screwdriver down the slot!!!
This video saved me from being late for work, today.
Can I get an "at·ta·boy" from your boss?
Thanks for posting this! The tip for removing the casing was especially helpful.
Yes, I can't believe Chevy didn't provide those instructions to owners.
Great video! I have the same colour and model of Colorado…love it! Swapped the battery for a new one today. Thanks!
It's an awesome color, thanks!
Thank you for this excellent video. You saved me a lot of grief on the fuse box removal!
Glad I could help you out!
Thank you thank you thank you. You made replacing the battery on my 2016 colorado more doable. Just finished, took me alittle longer than you😊, but it's done thanks to your very informative video.👍
So glad we could help you!
Thanks changed it in 10 minutes!! Also thanks for the tip with the screw driver to get the positive side off.
Super!
This was great help! I couldn't have done it without you!
Thank you, you were very helpful on showing me how to take out my battery. Super clear instructions and demonstration.
Glad it helped
Thanks for helping me out with my change out! I could not get the block off the top and would have surely broken it if you hadn’t shown me how to remove it!
I like hearing comments like this because I had the same feeling when I started trying to remove my own battery and that's when I said I need to record this to help others too!
You helped me, thank god cause it was pouring rain and it was taking too long
Thank you for this. It helped me swap out the battery in my 2016 Colorado. Excellent tutorial video!
You're welcome!
Thanks so much for making this video. Followed right along and got it done on the first try.
Fantastic!
Glad we could help!
Excellent Video, Thank YOU!
My next project is replacing the Canyon/Colorado brake master cylinder.
Have you considered a video on the Master Cylinder?
Thanks for this it only took me 45 minutes to do a swap out
Glad to hear it went well!
That's a great idea to put it in the manual book!
@@28TrucksTravel Perfect!
@@28TrucksTravel That clarification was needed and I'm glad someone had thought to ask it already. Otherwise a really well done video.
It almost feel like he was changing the whole computer on that thing 🤣😅🤣. Great video! Thanks
Super charged!
Thanks ! I couldn’t figure out how to disconnect the negative cable end. My 10mm socket doesn’t turn that nut. I think I rounded it.
Wow, that's too bad, get a new one from the dealer.
Fantastic video! Thank you so much for posting this. Your attention to detail is fabulous!
Thank you so much for saying that and so happy I could help with your battery process.
great video ! after new bat is in will you have to relearn any CPU functions? auto window roll up, etc...
Not that I know of
Nice video. Shows all the pitfalls and tips.
Thanks
Great job on the video, really informative. You just skipped the step about the trapezoid rubber bumper. But otherwise, that was really helpful.
