I was torn on whether to get the omnibus or wait for a third volume of the new collections they're putting out. It really came down to the binding, so thank you for going into detail about it! Can't wait to get my omnibus and dig into it along the holidays :)

For people who are not aware of Morrison's Doom Patrol, to me personally it was one of the best comic book series ever. Truly fascinating stuff, with some of the weirdest ideas ever brought to life in comics.

Mine arrived today! Excited to re-read this! Love these characters and some of the concepts in this are really out there and intriguing... In any case: LOVE these big chunks of comics! ALSO: looking forward to any future reviews you might have in the pipeline, Ryley! Thanks!

Hey Ryley, great video as always, Morrison's Doom Patrol is one of my favourite series of all time and thanks to this video I've decided that I will be buying this omnibus, so thanks for that.
On an unrelated topic, I was considering buying the first Chris Claremont "Uncanny X-Men" omnibus, but I can't find any videos about it anywhere, what's your take on it? Is it worth buying?

Awesome channel/vide, so in light of the problems and what appears to be a lack of bonus content, would you recommend getting this, or collecting the trades?

How do you even read a book this big from page 1? I've had this for like two months now and done the spine loosening thing multiple times, but it still feels like I'm going to crack the spine when I try to open it.

I've only read one thing from Grant Morrison, Final Crisis and I'll be honest I had a hard time understanding it. I had to read it twice but not sure if I'm ready to order a $70 book that I might not be able to read. I think I'll get the Volume 1 of Doom Patrol to see if it's a good fit. Do you think the first Volume is an accurate representation of the overall series?

Thanks Ryley! I am going to give the books you mentioned a go...I don't want to miss our on some great books because I didn't understand Final Crisis very well. LOL! :)

almost all his books are like that. he claims you have to read it several times to understand them. I've never liked him.

I have kind of a stupid question if you don't mind my asking. Like I mentioned before, I'm new to comics. I have a few omnibi that I plan on reading. Do you read them with the jacket on them, or is it better to take it off when you read it?

    • @alecholland5618
      @alecholland5618 10 років тому

Personal preference, man. I prefer to take my jackets off my books when I read.

good reveiw, a question, im from uruguay, a spanish-speaking country of south america, and if we get a marvel comic for example we tend to get a deluxe edition, in the case of those comics they end up with the pages separating from the hardcover. my question is, with that omnibus with that ammount of pages it doesnt happend the same?

@@omnibuscollector I don't live in the US so my only way of purchasing these are through Amazon sadly. I saw the Animalman omnibus is sold out on Amazon and I really prefer these omnibus collections since I don't really want single volumes. I saw there is a new delux edition of Animalman that is gonna be released soon do you know anything about those? If I can't get a hold on Animalman would you say this is a good intro?

Do you think DC will make a 4-5 volumes deluxe edition for this series? They did it for Invisibles.

Since this is a run, and not a complete series like The Invisibles omni, how "standalone" it is ? You need previous knowladge of the team ? I the story "complete" ?

Great vid Ryley!.... that said, I find Grant Morrison to be very pretentious, more often than not Morrison is weird for the sake of being weird. He does this to give the impression that he is super smart but actually there isn't really anything behind his pretentious nonsense. You go on about animal man (and i do like this book) However grant writes himself into the story to break the third wall i found this to be quite an egotistical move by him and it damaged that story (just my opinion). The invisibles is probably the thing that he wrote which i dislike most (again weird for the sake of it). In the same vein The filth...... i mean the wig and the cat and the WTF!!!! That is one side of Grant!!! There is another side to him which i do like if you can get past his huge ego. You can get to see a really solid story teller with small plot points which grow into much more dynamic things later as part of a bigger story. I have seen this mostly on batman (arkham asylum batman and robin the black glove etc...) New X-Men was another great example showing us what he really has to offer the comic book world. I am a collector myself pretty similar to you and i am in two minds about Doom Patrol. What kind of Morrison wrote Doom Patrol Is it just him being convoluted and weird or is it the story teller i enjoy to read?
P.S another example of my point is his book Supergods which has the first quarter be a really an insightful history of superheroes and than the next 3/4's him blowing smoke up his a**
    What are your thoughts?

Wow Ryley you're talking to me like i dislike GM. Let me make it clear i don't dislike him at all. I was pointing out some constructive points about his books for discussion purposes. I also really wanted to get answers to questions above about the type of book doom patrol was. Is it more The filth and Invisibles weirdness type book or his story telling mainstream style?
P.S i feel i am not short of a couple of a few braincells, similar to the guys in Big bang theory i am a theoretical physicist with a respectable set of achievements. I challenge anyone to tell me what was cerebral about either the filth or Invisibles as was pointed out in the original comment. Those books are what i call try hard weirdness books who attempt to find meaning in an area there is none.
Please don't treat the above comments as an attempt to undermine or antagonise you or your opinion. This is purely for discussion purposes.
