  • On April 2024 I visited Meghalaya for 7 days And Now I'm revealing the Hidden Gems of Meghalaya one by one..In today's video i am showing you..
    MAWLYNNONG ::
    Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India that has earned the reputation of being Asia's cleanest village. It is located 90 km from Shillong, along the India-Bangladesh border.
    Some key facts about Mawlynnong:
    As of 2019, it had 900 residents living in about 95 households. The literacy rate is 90%.
    Agriculture, especially betel nut, is the main occupation. Pineapples and lychees are also grown and exported during summers.
    The village is known for its cleanliness, with waste collected in bamboo dustbins and used as manure. Smoking and polythene use are banned, while rainwater harvesting is encouraged.
    Mawlynnong was chosen as Asia's cleanest village by Discover India magazine in 2003, and the cleanest in India in 2005.
    The village has a living root bridge called Jingmaham, a 100-year-old Church of the Epiphany, and a bamboo tree house that offers panoramic views of Bangladesh.
    While Mawlynnong is a popular tourist destination, some visitors feel it is overrated and the entry fees for certain attractions are overpriced. However, most agree it is a picturesque village showcasing the Khasi people's harmony with nature.
    DAWKI OR UMNGOT RIVER ::
    Dawki River, also known as the Umngot River, is located in Meghalaya, India, and is celebrated for its crystal-clear waters, allowing visibility of the riverbed. It serves as a popular tourist destination for boating, kayaking, and cliff jumping, particularly noted for its scenic beauty and proximity to the Bangladesh border. The town of Dawki facilitates trade and tourism, but it faces challenges from overtourism, impacting its natural environment and local culture.
    LIVING ROOT BRIDGE OF Mawlynnong ::
    The Mawlynnong Living Root Bridge, also known as the Jingmaham Living Root Bridge, is located near the village of Riwai, about 3 km from Mawlynnong in Meghalaya, India. This single-decker bridge, made from the intertwined roots of rubber trees, is over 300 years old and serves as a vital crossing for local villagers. Visitors can reach the bridge via a short trek through a forested area, with an entry fee of approximately ₹30. The best time to visit is between October and March, when the weather is most favorable.
    MAWKHRANG BAMBOO TRAIL ::
    The Mawryngkhang Trek, also known as the Bamboo Trail, is located in Wahkhen village, Meghalaya. This adventurous trek features bamboo walkways suspended over cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the U Mawryngkhang rock and surrounding valley. Opened in 2016, it showcases the community's self-reliance, as the villagers constructed the trail independently. The trek is moderately challenging, taking about 3 to 5 hours to complete, with the best time to visit being from October to April to avoid slippery conditions.
