Glad to hear it. It was hard to choose what flag to use, Wikipedia showed some of the official flags used by the Commonwealth of England, but a lot of the illustrations and re-enactments showed the red ensign flag that I used, which is why I chose it.
England was all ways a Commonwealth... both Sir John Fortescue, with his book... The Governance of England... and Sir Thomas Smith's book De Republica Anglorum: the Maner of Gouernement or Policie of the Realme of England, first published in 1583... illuminated this fact and indeed illuminated the *English Conservative Tradition* which has its roots deep in to England's medieval past & don't really change that much. Indeed, in Smith's book , he described England as being a mixed government and a commonwealth, and stated that all commonwealths are of mixed character. Where do you think the Parliamentarian's got the name... the Commonwealth of England... from. The main problem was overcorrection... that and people we ought to have not let in to the Army(we did purge them from it though later),... we attempted a noble republic by abolishing our Crown... instead of just deposing Charles... like we would with James II & have done with other bad Kings before the 17th.c... and we discovered that we could not live without our Crown because... Kings in English Kingship... have known & limited powers... a Lord Protector(which is an English medieval title for a Regent... hence why Richard III was Lord Protector before he was King)has unknown & unlimited powers... which is why the rump parliament offered Cromwell the Crown... and why he rejected the Crown. England is a Republic... but a Republic under a Crown... a Crowned Republic. Remember... Republic comes from the Latin roots meaning "public good" or "public affair," used in ancient Rome to mean simply "state" or "country" with reference to the representative democracy of the Roman Republic... do you know how long we have been electing our representative's to Westminster for?... since the 13th.c, Parliamentarianism is an old *English Conservative Tradition* which could even be traced back to the Witan of old early medieval England. As Henry VIII said to the Pope in Rome... "England is an Empire & a Kingdom"... that is to say... England is a State totally independent of any foreign authority & foreign power, headed by a King. This is why England and us English still have our Crown... and the French don't... because England is a "dominium politicum et regale” (a political and royal dominion) as apposed to the French “dominium regale” (a royal dominion),... the former was what the Parliamentarian's were fighting for... the latter was what they were fighting against... and as an Englishman, an Anglican(of an orthodox kind)an English Conservative(of the *English Conservative Tradition* that is)an English Monarchist(I support our English Crown as an institution)an English Parliamentarian(I support our English Parliament(Westminster)as an institution)and an English Nationalist(I support our English Nation-State),... thank God the Parliamentarian's won the Civil War... but the settlement was bloody awful... as I said before... we ought to have just deposed Charles... as set up an English King under in English Kingship tradition... like we would do in 1688/89... with William III.
Here’s the video I got it from, ua-cam.com/video/COZ3MIdhBHk/v-deo.html. I think I found it in a playlist called English Civil War music or something like that.
This flag in the backround really does something for me. It's very satisfying to look at while I listen to the song.
