  • Despite the MB trac's popularity, Mercedes-Benz decided to stop producing this tractor in 1991 due to changes in the agricultural industry. The increasing demand for larger, more powerful tractors, and the competition from other manufacturers made it difficult for Mercedes-Benz to continue producing the tractor. Additionally, the cost of manufacturing and maintaining the MB trac became too high for the company.

The engine is in front of the cab.

why is he basically just repeating the same vague descriptions, 4 minutes of talking and all I got was "The main advantage of this tractor is that it is good, and its good because the cab is over the engine" then rinse and repeat (Should I even mention that the cab is very much not over the engine, its raised up, and in the middle, which is what a "trac" configuration actually is)

    There are some inacuracies.
    1. The ground clearance only applies for the smallest Chassis. Due to small wheels.
    2. Biggest flaw is Medium and Large chassins Have issues with the Turning circle because Unlike Claas Xerion and also Like Shlutter They only Turn front Wheels that are large and thus limited in angle.
    3. The Tractor was designed with Features 30 years in front of EVERYONE. Including John Deere.
Fast 3 point Hitch Not even Standard on All tractors today.
Large tractors had up too 16 gears and Reversers making them able to Work In both directions.
To Help even more, medium and Large ones could have The turning floor Inside the cab so You can Actually Like Class Xerion Turn around and Drive the Other way without Twisting your body to Look backward. Xerion turns the whole cab not the floor. You Turn Your controls back and Look in front of you. With the tractor effectively Going in reverse.
Permanent 4x4 that operated at all speeds Up to 70Kph for Transport Versions. Most trators Even today Have a Speed Limit to Front wheel drive. They tell you To only use it In the Fields and Muddy roads. Only Expensive Tractors don't care.
Some of them Will also Incredibly Whine and get damaged if you drive too fast with 4WD on.
No JCB Fast trac isnt the first that could go that fast.
    4. It wasnt High Maintenance and It wasnt Expensive. Whats more the access to The engine is very easy.
Its like the 80s Mercedes car The parts are bit More expensive but The service Interval is 2x longer. And people Love to Ignore that fact. Part from Oil changes You didn't need to do Any service for 2-3x longer than on Your Golf.
And Yes your Parts for Your 80s Fendt are cheaper But you will change them 2x before you change the same ones on the MB trac.
Its designed for people who are willing to Invest More to Start but saves them Money later. Like the 80-90s cars too.
The Problem was that the tractor was OVERDESIGNED as Mercedes of Old does.
    Basically like the Mercedes 190/W124.
But It Used Unimog parts and Other Truck parts. Also Unimog Tans axle With Increases Lift thats why no1 is riidiculous. So the maintenance was not expensive because It had Serial production parts from Other vehicles. Not ALL specific MB trac only parts.
Being a Agricultural machine of course there are a lot of specific parts But Main ones Like Engine Gearbox, brakes suspension parts for the front etc were from Trucks.
The price was the Main problem. People in the 80s didn't Understand why they would need or want to Have a machine like this, it was designed With Everything possible in Mind sacrificing effectively only Turning circle. And the customer that is Low Budget. It even Had an Easy way To Pull the Engine and gearbox pack as One Unit In Large models. It would take 10 minutes. Front Suspension also, 98% of modern Tractors don't have it, And Air brakes like a Semi truck.
Tractors have Air assisted Brakes Now But Not Air brakes.
And Finally The Law caught up to the Fact Many of them Were sold with Fast Gearboxes because its a nice feature to have. Since they would have up to 16 gears in 4 ranges 4 gears. So Why not Use the extra ones to go faster on the road. There were also Air gearboxes from Mercedes trucks from the 80s.
Remember MOST Tractors had Up to 3-4 gears and Maybe 2 ranges, making that 8 gears, sometimes if reverse was on the Range selector 4 Reverse gears too.
Example popular Cheap and Strong Zetor CRYSTAL 16045 and URSUS 1614 had Only 3 gears and 2 Forward ranges and One back range so 6 forward gears and 3 backward gears. In total.
Smaller ones would have Maybe 5 In total or 2 in 2 ranges and 1 effectively 2 Reverse gears.
Larger MB trucks were bought in large numbers with Fast gearboxes that could Go Over 45 Km/h Making them Lose Agricultural Tag and have to be Registered as Trucks which is Dozens of times more expensive, when the law came to pass. . And In Many countries requires Tachograph. A device that measures driver activity. Limited to 9h a day. That makes the tractor Extremely Impractical. If you can only use it for 9h a day and you have to take legal breaks. And you also need the C class category license for Truck drivers.

Engage negativity with this content, it of low value and should not be given your praise.
    1 text to speech natation.
2 says how versatile it is, which is the same for most tractors.
3 calling a mid mounted cab a cab over design and praising its "improved" visibility, which most tractor have the same level or even better due to the cab being near the rear hitches.
4 this channel appears to be a content farm.
