At 0.56, that accident was caused by the fire swiftly turning back along the road towards the 3 fire vehicles that were travelling along that road in file. The small vehicle at the front scouting ahead of the two following fire trucks The second truck in last place, was travelling from a further location to catch up with them and help them fight the fire that was initially moving away from them. A sudden wind change and the flames and blinding smoke are immediately now moving towards the oncoming vehicles. The small scout u turns and the first truck can't so reverses back along the road radioing a warning to the following truck that the fire's turned and they're retreating back along the road towards them. They also shout Burnover! repeatedly meaning the fire is about to engulf them and they need to adopt the burnout formation. The last truck bangs into the first as it stops, the small scout parks close alongside and the big trucks turn on their reticulation systems to create an overhead cover of water to protect all in the vehicles especially those in the smaller one who would certainly have died had the fire not raged so unnaturally fast over and past them. Even the firies in the big trucks believed there was only a slim chance they would survive that freak event.
truck in front (mount compass 34 i believe) had no water for their spray bar system, meaning there was only the fire-proof curtains in the cab to protect themselves with. the smaller vehicle does not have any reticulation systems because it is not built for burnovers. the smaller vehicle (support/logistics) parks alongside the truck to shield itself from flames and heat. the front truck actually ended up driving forward through the flames to escape the burnover. this all happened in the 2015 Pinery fire in South Australia.
