In today's age, are we writing these kind of stories? Why can't guys also work in kutchen? This kind of stereotype is so bad for society as a whole...it is like slow poison.
If father in law is so healthy, why can't he help in kitchen? Why both old people can't eat the same food?
Why so much expectation from DIL...is she a slave? What does their son do for his in laws? Just wondering?
And yes, I have raised three boys and I think boys and girls, both can work in the kitchen.
Stop treating your wives and daughter in laws like your slaves.

I understand what you are saying..when the DIL was cooking, what was MIL doing and what was FIL doing? They both are retired and in good shape. Why the DIL has to say, why MIL is not equally in the kitchen. One day if she had eaten rice, she would have not died. If DIL didn't give Roti, why is MIL asking..it is not understood by her?
I am sorry for being critical, however I think we need the society to change for the better.
Why are all these expectations from the dil?
When sil visits in laws, does he cook for even 1 day?
This thinking that wife has come to your home to serve you and your parents need to change.
When MIL saw Kathal, why she didn't herself say that let me make it for my husband. Why fil needs to have Kathal and daal and rice..
It seems that fil was used to of Chatorapan and his wife was serving him.
Btw..I don't have double standards. I told my mom and dad the same thing as my dad likes to Farmaish..and my mom believes serving her husband is like heaven. She runs when he calls..they are good people but this is not how things should be.
Once in a great while, you ask for something..yes, no one will be irritated but if it is every week..it is nonsense.
Wife can also say Today I saw thus jewellery, buy me...everytime the FIL does फर्माइश, soon he will learn.
We need to see that Prem Chandra like stories were OK then, not now..
I get along with all my SILs and they always insist that I visit them because I treat them like an equal human being and not someone who should serve my parents, my brothers or myself.
There are some bad DIL I agree, but if you bring someone home with love, respect and care, then don't expect them to be your servant.
I have told my mom and dad also ..you will eat what is made without any fuss, else you plan and you make the dinner for everyone and you have the freedom and flexibility to cook the meal of your choice. I think change starts from us.
When my kids were younger and they did a फर्माइश, I told them we can look into it tomorrow or next week. They came and helped whatever they could according to their age And no matter if it was simple daal rice, they said Thank you God for the hot food and Thanks mom for making dinner.
By old age, the people need to be thankful 🙏. In old times, they went to Forest VanPrasth Ashram rather than staying home, drinking tea and thinking about lunch.
In today's world we need to change stereotype of girl cooking in the kitchen

And yes my parents are alive and I expect them not to treat my bhabhi like a slave...why girls and her parents are treated differently than son and son on law.
And the food for elderly...yes if medically necessary it should be different, no problem with that.
But making two different food, one due to dietary restrictions and one due to taste...my gosh..what nonsense, waste of time and resources.
I have taught my boys to respect food whatever they get as long as it is healthy, unlike the old man of this story..who is definitely looks like a "Chatora" to me.
What particular disease the MIL had, that the food for her couldn't be eaten and healthy for others?
Why so many expectations from DIL? If the old couple was my parents, I would tell them the same. Live and let live
..if you don't want someone else's cooking, cook yourself, especially if you are healthy and are not bed ridden.
