4:35 - 100% spot on. If you naturally extend that shaft along the arm and forearm, it'll create a straight line and the clubhead will fall BEHIND the ball. In other words, DON'T BREAK THE LEAD WRIST. Don't fight it, just trust it.
5:35 - Rotation will drag the lead shoulder back behind you, forcing the lead arm (wrist, hand) forward in the "down the line" direction. It's a thing of beauty. When done right, you don't have to rework anything, the rotation will deliver the clubhead bang on and the ball will fly straight. Occasionally it may pull a tad bit, but that improves the more you do it. At my best I would pull it maybe a yard left and get about 240-ish on my senior shaft driver. I could repeat this over and over again. Sometimes I would hit it so good I could land the ball in nearly the same spot 240 yards away. On days when the wind was blowing a little I knew I could just aim a little into the wind and let it ride right back on line.
todd, i've looked at and tried this type of swing several times over the years and all that you said makes a lot of sense. i'm gonna give it a try again, it does seem like a simpler action, thnx for the info.
@Todd Graves. Thanks again for the great videos Todd. Again i have to admit something, i have been fighting Moe's positions, I don't know if it's because of all the previous standard swing type methods i was using for many years or we have mind blocks of some kind. I finally kept the tilt and obviously, this means the club is going to start behind the ball, distance behind depending on club. The ball striking is unbelievable now, even though it was fairly good while i was fighting Moe's tilt and club behind at setup position, now it is at a whole other level. Now i see why so many people will not try Moe's swing methods. The swing feels like your hanging on to a limb and you'll never get back to the ball and yet, the ball is struck powerfully and pure, as long as i pull sufficiently with my lead hand. Thanks again Todd, despite my stubbornness. peace love light Edit: forgot to mention, I'm using the 1.5 overlap grip.
Hi Todd I’m a new subscriber. I’m a left handed golfer. Apart from watching your videos in a mirror, do you have any instructions for us lefties? I don’t get out to play much, but want to improve and develop a single plane swing. Thanks for making these videos for us all.
A guy like Moe who hits over a thousand balls a day must obviously find what we have all been looking for! He is sadly missed in todays golfing world! RIP Moe!
4:17 - Yup yup, Body to Club! No re-adjusting to manufacturer shaft lean, for all practical purposes, it's already built into the set-up. I would advise new golfers to the SPS, to set-up, then just rotate from the start position a little forward and watch as the clubhead makes contact with the ball. Keep doing it and slowly lengthen the swing to a half swing. Almost guarantee they'll pure the ball straight as an arrow and probably hit almost as far as they do with their full swing.
Using Moe's philosophies of reducing variables surely the best start position would be impact position itself and return to that . Thus training the brain to return to that position?
No. not really. As Moe stated the club well behind the ball because he was already into his turn, you should start like Moe. I don't recommend starting at impact because there is more POSITIVE rotation at impact than at address. This will create more (unnecessary) movement.
I’m curious, if all of those famous golfers thought Moe was the best, why didn’t any of them copy his swing and why is there almost nobody on tour using it?
If you’d honed your swing after a lifetime and were making a living as a professional, it’s a huge risk to completely change your swing which would take months which would mean months without income on the chance you might be better than you were. Too big a risk When kids start learning this swing you’ll see a glut on tour 20 years later.
It's also what hurt Moe when he went to the Masters. He took some lessons from Snead, worked on it until his hands were bleeding. When he should swing his swing.
20-40 years ago Billions of kids on all continents learned to play golf with the conventional swing. Only a tiny percentage ever become professional and even less on the US PGA tour If half those billions of kids learned Moes swing there’d be plenty of professionals and on tour. The Fosbury flop is a great example of something once unconventional becoming the norm
Moe's lefthand grip is a finger grip, but his right hand grip is a palm grip, the combination of which allows a natural transition to impact. You need less effort!
I believe he also said you should not swing like him. But there is plenty of things he did that can get incorporated into any swing and make it better .
I've learned that there are simple ways and more complicated ways to move the body. Moe found a simple way. I suggest using all of it because a swing is a summation not isolated mechanics. For example your hand rotation affects your arm rotation and your arm rotation affects your shoulder movement etc. I try to stay away from "tips" and stick to a model. I get better results that way.

Got to say Tod looks like you have slimmed down considerably, you’re looking great. Once again great insight into Moe’s thinking..
Yes. I've dropped 35lbs. Feel great. Thanks for noticing and thanks for the comments.
Very smart by Moe. And you really explains it well !

So how do you strike down on the irons?
A great tip for anyone!
Moe is a genius!
Brilliant. I love it.
Moe was brilliant. Thanks.
@@ToddGravesGolf appreciate all this free knowledge you give, without you carrying the torch we would all be clueless to his magic!
Todd does the same principle apply to chipping and pitching?

Love to have you come to the Academy. Email me a toddg@gravesgolf.com and lets make that happen.
Hey Todd. Great video again. Can you tell me why we don't see professional golfers using this method?
Some guys are close. Steve Stricker, Bryson DeChambeau...
Love this video. Can you use your regular clubs or do you need to get fitted before you start to learn this swing?
@jeremyhayes5579 look at Moe's clubs. His are so mis-matched it's hilarious.
So no, you don't need to be fitted.
Great explanations! How about slices and draws?

Will this work if you don’t have a single plane swing
This actually really helped my takeaway consistency today on the course hitting the most fairways and greens all year.

I want to know does Moes swing work on uneven lies. Uphill, downhill, higher, lower? Ny course you rarely get a flat lie?👍
Yes it does

Todd look like you lost weight
Looking lean my friend
You look thin Todd, hope you’re well.
So, my question is: "At address, with the club a foot behind the ball (driver), the club face is square to the line?"
