I just LOVE this song. The video of it is filmed in Bexhill on Sea ( where I was born ) and often went to the Sovereign Light Cafe. Wonderful memories !
As Birgit says, the Sovereign Light cafe is on the seasfrong in west Bexhill, in East Sussex. There are many references to local places (Powder Mill Lane, Marley Lane, North Trade Road, Battle, etc), which adds to the songs attraction for me, being close to where I live. The song relates to the band's youth (they all grew up in Battle, just up the road from Bexhill ans Hastings) and reflecting back on it as adults, which is another aspect that resonates with me as I enter my 60s. As has been stated elsewhere, Keane were such an underrated band and, in my opinion, every much the equal to Coldplay and Snow Patrol. Tom Chaplin's soaring voice is displayed perfectly in this song.
Keane are such a great band and absolutely fantastic live.

Closed borders, how prescient for February 2020, but different reasons...
What is this song about? I kinda like it
The title refers to a café in the town Bexhill-on-Sea named after a lighthouse. I think the lyrics are about memories of their childhood and youth.

@@stevemale9936I agree on this. They can level with Coldplay by the song impact they made. They song touches your soul.
