Real nice job on the plane and great job piloting. You had nothing to be worried about! I'm currently working diligently on the wing of my scratch build Royal/Marutaka 60.5"ws F4U-1D Corsair. This is my first build and it's been so much fun. Fair skies!
Thanks for the great comment, I love it too. However its been Discontinued as per Towers web site. I'm Not Happy. Just got my maiden in and I had to see this. Grrrrrr I guess Horizion thinks it will compete with theirs, now that they own Tower. Hate when this shit happens. But its a business decision they made. Hope the Top Flite P51 hangs around. I must say that if I ever taco this one to the ground I will buy theirs. It is a Beauty
I'have the same with fg 84, fantastic plane overall, but the tail wheel is to wimpy not scale at all, what cause a major scratch to back of fuselage when your runaway is pavement.
Thanks, I would put a DLE 61 in my next Corsair or a G62. I do like the Saito. But i also ilke to change up my engines in my planes. Sound is incredible though. P.S as you said power is no problem.
Excellent Sound, Great flying.. Loved the landing! Easily the most scale flight of the TF ARF Corsair I’ve seen so far....Great Job knockoffs! Are you satisfied with the engine power? Any issues with C.G. or throws? Looks like the flaps were not fully down when you landed. Is any elevator mixed in..
Thanks for the great comments, Engine power is totally fine and will fly this plane without any issues. She isn't even leaned out yet, Nor do I think I will go much leaner. Im turning 6100 rpm on the ground. She comes down cool as a cucumber. Im using 8 oz of Amsoil Dominator synthetic per gallon. Shake your gas can well prior to filling tank. No CG issues as you can see on takeoff. I can run it all day on the mains. Balanced as per manual, 5 3/4 back from leading edge. I only used half flaps for landing, I will try full next time. Elevator mix is in, I may just have a little to much down mix in. May peel off a degree or two so she won't pitch down much. However it so slight I may just leave it as is. Use low rates as per manual with lite expo, Thats if you like to fly with expo. I like Knowing I have elevator control when I need it so I don't add to much expo. After all this being said. Horizion just discontinued this plane as per Towers web site. Im not happy. I guess they think it will be in competition with their Corsair. Hope its just a mistake. I would hate to think that they may Kill the Big Beautiful Doll as well !!!! So many people have this plane it would be a shame if they cancel it. Im ordering a new one today I Love the P51. Good luck with yours when and if you get it.
knockoffs Thanks for the info and the feedback. I am too hoping that it is a mistake at Tower to show the plane as Discontinued. I must have bought the last kit they had. I wanted to ask you your reason for going pneumatic vs electric on retracts. Did reliability and weight play into the decision? I am thinking of using electric purely from a scale appearance standpoint but don’t want to do something wrong.
Reliability was always my concern, Ive seen a lot of guys have trouble with the electric, Jamming gears on side loading during landing etc etc, You should also run another battery pack for the gear as well. If a gear gets hung up and the electric circuitry dosen't shut down the gear, The overload could drain power from your main receiver pack, Then you are toast, It could cause a brown out to the receiver. I'm old school and I'm sure with they are getting better, But Air systems always worked for me. And as far as the appearance. I pull my gear up as soon as I'm off the deck. Once you start pulling into a turn. The wind resistance plays a large factor in pulling up the gear. I Guess if I was really going for scale 100 percent, I would want it too. Good Luck.

knockoffs oh man that sucks. That’s disappointing. Well I guess you’ll just have to look after it!! Love the sound of that radial engine!! Awesome!!

Sweet engine I have the exact plane just with os 120

Beautiful plane, beautiful flight! Are you on LI?
Yes, thanks for the nice comments.
I just got back into the hobby. May I ask where you guys fly? I moved back to LI from CT and don’t know where to go or who to talk to. Thanks!
