Taptoe Leiden 2022 a ribbon of light Leidens Relief. The Netherlands

The Feest der Feesten started on 1 October with the Taptoe, in which one half of Leiden looks at the other half of Leiden. The 3 October Vereeniging challenged all associations from the sports and cultural sector to present themselves extra beautifully.
The Tattoo has traditionally been a parade of the Leiden associations in honor of Prince William of Orange, Pieter Adriaenszoon van der Werf, Jan van Hout, Jan van der Does and Louis Boisot. During the route, wreaths are laid at the statue of Van der Werf (in the Van der Werfpark) and the Jan van Hout monument (at the Plantsoen) by the college of mayor and aldermen and by the board of the 3 October Vereeniging. Over time, the Taptoe has grown into a lap of honor for all Leiden associations through the city centre. This makes the Taptoe a stage for all associations to present themselves to the Leiden population in their club colours, with many attributes, light, enthusiasm and full dedication. This creates an immense spectacle, in which one half of Leiden presents itself to the other half of Leiden. The associations that present themselves the most creatively win one of the three Joppenszoon prizes.
The Tattoo is traditionally performed on 2 October and thus marks the kick-off of the 3 October celebration. Because this year October 2 fell on a Sunday, this year the tattoo was on Saturday October 1. The Tattoo departed from the Cheese Market at exactly 19:30. The route was successively:
- Pelican Street
- Haarlemmerstraat
- Princess Sekade
- Short Rapenburg
- Breestraat
- Stone barn (east side)
- Van der Werfpark (with wreath laying at the statue of Van der Werf)
- Doezastraat
- Jan van Houtkade
- Geregracht (with wreath laying at the Jan van Hout monument).
The last runners of the Taptoe were expected at the end point around 21:30.
The Taptoe was open to officially recognized public associations from Leiden and music bands from the Leiden region. There were no costs involved. All Leiden associations were informed in time about the 2022 version of the Taptoe by e-mail. Questions and registrations could be sent to [e-mail]. The participating associations and bands gathered at the Cheese Market from 6:00 pm and from 7:30 pm they walked through the center of Leiden in a long “Ribbon of Light”. All other interested parties could line up along the route to enjoy everything the Leiden associations had to offer.
