how Jeff pulled this off without losing his complete career on the spot, is a testament to his genius.
Yes, it took Jeff to turn dead jihadist terrorists, into a great comedy act. It took real curage as well, wondering what the Muslims woud do to him. But it turned out Achmed was very popular in many Muslim nations as well, indicating many of them are fed up with their jihadists as well, and ready to turn the jihadists into comic figures.
Because back in 2003 the world wasn’t full of the “lgtbq” shit who cry over every joke.
He pulled this off because social media was like it is today. And people was whining soft crybabies like they are now. That was a different and better time. Now everybody cry and bitch about everything.

I can see much of Alchmed’s early jokes. Funny puppet but I am glad he waited a few years and created Alchmed and not stuck with this puppet.
Yeah, some of the jokes are the same, of course. The reason he made Achmed was he wanted to bring back Dead Osama, but it would be too stale, so he wanted to keep it fresh.
Dead Osama is an earlier version of Achmed.

My friend and I were at this show. We were absolutely EXCITED to see one of our fave comedians live! And man.... Jeff and the gang sure didn't disappoint! They're always hilarious but they were even more hilarious seeing them live. We laughed through the entire show and left that night with sore ribs from laughing so much. Thanks for all the laughs that night Jeff!
Oh I miss the good old days when it was fun to laugh. I loved that we didn’t take ourselves so seriously and could laugh at ourselves.

Great video. It had all the ingredients that made Achmed great, including the skeleton, the "Silence, I keel you", and complaining about his many wives, but with a Bin laden beard instead. The big addition with Achmed, is the expressive eyebrows and eyes, and a better voice.
So that's how it all started. Thanks for sharing that Jeff.

So, Achmed didn't make the "Silence, i kill you" phrase. He perfected it though. If you clise your eyes, you think it's Achmed. Dead Osama was a trail i think. Achmed is an upgrade - and a damn good one. Loving your work Jeff! Keep it up. I hope you bring another character into the mix at some point.
He did Dead Osama due to the 9/11 tragedies that dead asshole caused. After a few years he put him aside because the bit was getting stale. He did think about bringing him back but he wanted the act to be fresh so he came up with Achmed, which was a do over of Dead Osama. Yes, he did get a lot of jokes from DO and put them into Achmed.
There is a follow-up character, Achmed's half dead, half English son.
Oh, and if you wanted to edit your comment, completely up to you, "Dead Osama was a trail", did you mean trial? I think you reversed the "ia" in trial, unless that is what you meant.

@@dvineslim No, she didn't "lose weight", she was really skinny from the get-go, don't misrepresent reality. It just took a few years before people took note of it. And if I remember correctly, it was when the show had a few seasons behind it already, meaning that it was closer to the end of the show, than the beginning of it.

Yeah, Osama fit that time, so that was why it was funny. But it was getting stale, so Jeff stopped using him, and when he decided to bring his ass back, thought it would be better to have a redo of him, making him Achmed so it would stay fresh.

It took guts to pull-off this one in 2003, only 2 years after 9/11. Causality tolls rising. I am not sure whether I would have laughed back then, some of my friends/acquaintances/connections were dead, injured, impacted, or at war. But Dunham pulls it off beautifully. Thank you.

Ahmed is a better, improved puppet, more expressive, due mainly to the moving eyebrows and Jeff's delivery is now way more punchy and finer overall...
He was playing cautious for obvious reasons
I was thinking this exact thing when I saw this. He definitely fine tuned his craft over the years. Him talking this fast and the delivery being too fast isn't as funny as he is now with his pacing and delivery. But that's the beautiful thing about experience.
Jeff said in an interview that The Dead Osama was just a skeleton decoration that he bought from a Halloween store, and modified it to be a ventriloquist dummy, so it didn’t have the same functionality as the other characters. He made Achmed, and all of the others, from scratch. Peanut is the only character currently in the show that Jeff didn’t make himself.

This man is brilliant! Look at that arena, packed full. No idea what a seat costs but he doesn't need a band, a light show, 10 tons of sound reenforcement. Just mic and his little friends.

How to get rich playing with dolls, I mean puppets. He has an amazing talent and uses it to maximum effect. I imagine when he was a young lad he took a lot of grief for his choose career path.

True but also Im glad Jeff decided to change it to just a dead terrorist. 9/11 was still on a lot of people’s minds and seeing comedians treating the monster behind the attack like he was a joke could’ve been a disaster and lord knows we didn’t need anymore of those at the time.

Achmed’s such a fascinating character to me. He’s meant to be a person that, for a few years, America was terrified of. He should’ve pissed off everybody and then be shafted and never seen again, but…no! He ended up becoming one of Jeff’s most iconic puppets, appearing in tour after tour after tour, and, craziest of all, actually making it to Israel with little complaints. I suppose that, for a lot of Americans, and maybe some Middle Eastern folk, he was comfort character. He took such a scary, dangerous thing, and found a way to get people to laugh at it and be not so afraid of it anymore, and I hope he’s able to continue that tradition with the Israel Palestine conflict.

I saw Jeff Dunham for the first time live in the 90s when I used to be a doorman at a comedy club in Boston, then I used to watch him on TV on a show that I don't think is on anymore called A&E's Evening At The Improv. When it was actually called the Arts and Entertainment channel. Back then, he only had Peanut, and I think Jose Jalapeno (on a steeck).
