I tend to follow the same rules you have done here. I try have each shelf have it's own theme so it's stops me from going crazy. MCU wise I only have an avengers endgame shelf so outside of that movie I dont get them. Interesting you mentioned 6 inch DC cause mafex and mezco is exactly what I just started. With the re release of the mafex Hush superman was a good place to start. Neca tmnt is fantastic but I've only collected the main returning characters. Marvel legends is a bit tricky has I have an avengers comic display, X-Men display , Spidey and street level dudes. Fantastic video my friend
If I don't need a Figure, I don't buy it. I have 3 Marvel Earth's, when I have 3 good Versions of a Figure I don't need any more. That's why I almost never the BAF. I've been Collecting for 29 years, 8 months, I have built maybe 8 BAFs. I try to keep Duplicates to a minimum. Doesn't always work, I have 4 Wolverines. So, the extra Wolverine is going into my WW2 Invaders Team! Wolverine was alive and there, so, he can represent Canada. Another Ally! WW2 Captain America Bucky (yes, I have one, he was made twice) Human Torch (Johnny Storm without a '4') Toro (older smaller Toy Biz Johnny Storm without a '4') Namor Union Jack Captain Britain (Captain Carter) Wolverine Jack Frost (Fudged) Blue Diamond (Fudged Figure on order) Definitely would love a Spitfire, Whizzer, and Miss America.
I set (relatively) easily achieved targets for completion. Black Series it was just the updated Original Twelve from the 1978 releases. Indiana Jones was just the five Raiders figs with the buildable Ark of the Covenant. I just started into GI Joe Classified but only characters that were part of the first wave 1982 release.
I struggle to find things i want so its more like a treasure hunt. I also enjoy filing down my collection once or twice a year. Send toys to friends or trade em into the used bookstore.
As much as I love collecting, I have currently stopped. I started selling my stuff on eBay... slowly. But it does not mean that I have given up completely. Seeing your videos about the hobby makes me happy. Love your video!!! Collect what you love as long as you have space.
I’ll never understand in box collecting for lines like Marvel Legends and Black Series. They’re articulated for a reason. They look so much better when they’re all posed on a shelf.

I think the reason so many toy lines fail these days is because people still won't let the idea that toys are for children go, kids DO NOT play with toys the way previous generations did, the adult collector is literally keeping this industry afloat. I run a day care and trust me for every 10 kids only about 3 play with toys, the rest only want their screens and granted that is 100% the parents fault but it is what it is
This video from you is actually a favorite of mine. I haven't been collecting for an extended period, but long enough to truly reflect on some of the items I possess. I'm considering narrowing down my collection. Personally, I have a strong affinity for Marvel Select, DC Multiverse, and Marvel Legends. However, with Marvel Legends, I'm contemplating quitting it entirely, except for perhaps two characters that I genuinely would like. I appreciate that Marvel Legends offers variety, with multiple waves and sub-lines covering numerous characters. Yet, for me, this diversity can become overwhelming, and the temptation to collect everything creeps in. I don't want to fall into that rabbit hole or buy figures solely to complete a team or set that I don't genuinely care about, driven by the fear of missing out. Another factor is the varying MRSP that Hasbro sets for their Marvel Legends merchandise. It seems inconsistent, but voting with your wallet becomes crucial. Recently, the Luke Cage with Mindless One BAF caught my eye. While I don't dislike it overall, after watching a review and weighing the pros and cons, I might wait for a sale or see if Marvel Select takes a shot at making him. I do like the character, and he would fit well into my collection, but I can't personally justify paying $24.99 for him. I might get him on sale and keep him in the box until another option comes along. With that said, my collecting goal is to focus on pieces I genuinely want. As mentioned earlier, I'm considering wrapping up with Marvel Legends, keeping only those I really like, and boxing up the ones I don't want, likely to give them away. I'll definitely stick with Marvel Select and DC Multiverse, primarily for Batman and a few cherry-picked favorite characters. My aim is to maintain a character selection from the '90s to the early 2000s, not needing all but just a select few. If there's another line I'd consider trying, it would probably be the NECA TMNT. I like the look of the Last Ronin Figures, the Slash Archie Comics figure, and even the punk turtles. I may get one to see what it's like; they seem to hold up well based on reviews and some UA-cam videos I've seen
The main lines I'm focused on are: Marvel Legends (majority comic but also some MCU) and WWE Ultimates/Elites. My secondary lines are: DC Multiverse and AEW Lines that I occasionally pick up: Black Series, Classified, Transformers, and Funko Pops (Especially for cheap lol)
I collect EVERYTHING G.I.Joe Classified. The way this line has blown up I can barely afford to keep up with it though, never mind consider anything else. I also get a few select Marvel Legends MCU figures that fit with the Classified design, scale and theme (characters like Captain America and Black Widow, Cable and Domino, etc.). Basically Joes and whatever other Hasbro figure may fit with the theme. As a kid who grew with 80s toys and cartoons, that's my holy grail. I also wanted to get some Transformers, but Hasbro's lines look like children's toys (the irony of that, I realize) and the Masterpiece line misses the point in my mind. In the end though, there came ThreeZero's MDLX and blew my mind, and it's now the only other line I collect. Seriously, those robot figures up close look like the best, coolest thing I've ever seen!
Just recently started collecting 6" so I can build some displays for my room and currently working on a ML and Mafex combined comic accurate X-Men/X-Force collection, I hope to eventually have a full Mafex collection of both teams (Keeping my fingers crossed lol) and that's what I'm using to keep me in check from going crazy and just grabbing anything ML I can get my hands on purely for the sake of having it and reach completion, I feel like pacing myself as I venture further into being a collector will make an eventual collection feel more rewarding in the pursuit of completeness, if such a thing exists lol. I think I'm going to move on to collecting purely MCU related figures after that until I can have a complete display of every character from every movie. Then more than likely move on to misc/more obscure Sentinel fighting armors and Hito kara kuri/play arts kai type renditions of Marvel related stuff.
Right now my top 3 lines I'm loving are GI Joe Classifieds, MOTO Masterverse (both Revelations and New Eternia stuff), and DC Multiverse with all the great sculpts. My wants that I haven't jumped into yet are FuRay planet, Savage Crucibles, and Animal Warriors of the Kingdom.
Great video Matt. You bring up a very interesting topic - how to keep focused. I am one of the fortunate that is faced with limited real estate so I cannot become a completionist. Also helping is that I only collect Marvel comic based characters exclusively so I don't dive into other brands. That all said, I do feel for the collectors that are trying to enjoy this hobby without going broke growing their collections following different brands at the same time.
I'm staying steady on Hasbro Marvel, Gi Joe, Star Wars, and select other scale figures & Robot Spirits Damashii Gundam. Dropped or Dropping all MonsterArts, FiguArts, Mafex, Figma, LittleArmory, DX Chogokin Macross planes, Bandai Hi-Metal R, all 1/18 and 1/4 scales, 1/6 all (3A, 3-Zero, Hot Toys, Soldier Story, DAM, Sideshow, all Chicks, all Soldiers, all Motorcycles and vehicles, all kitbashes, all models and all extras). Some heavily scarred and saddened display dreams crushed, but 80% going on sale soon, which in effect, the contents of my one car garage, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, back to front. But also still playing the lottery in hopes of saving it all, but I can't leave the planet and my kids with thousands upon thousands of toys to sell. So we'll see what happens as I ramp up those long packed away to sell, if I can look at them all and let them go....
The collecting industry as a whole has changed so much, I believe significantly in the past years. I've been an adult collector for 20 + years and I find nowadays it is almost impossible to find any good deals. So many figures come out way and they are overpriced. (A perfect example was the Madballs figures that came out a year or so ago with the 18 pt articulation at $50. TMNT is a line that has somewhat stayed reasonable although they had a line coe as at $50 as well a year or so back. GI Joe which I played with as a child is way overpriced as well. I wanted to get my son into it when he was younger but it was difficult to find any figures except in Toys R Us and they were too much for child to buy . I've gone down so many Rabbit Holes while I collected especially my Ebay days but now I try to limit myself due to the overproduction of product lines, characters, ect. Another issue is there are so many similar lines coming out. What I do occasion and kick my self afterwards is buy something that is on sale that I don't really want but because it's on sale I add it to the collection. I have instant buyers regret. LOL. I am mainly a horror collecting and try to limit myself to certain characters and am being more selective on the lines that I branch off into. Thank God that I never was into Star Wars, Superheroes or went into collecting GI. Joe, as have enough crap already and those line are just waaayyy too big. Thanks for the video.
I got into collecting action figures just 4 years ago when the pandemic hit. I'm collecting: Hush Batman, Reign of the Supermen and the X-Men from Mafex. MCU Avengers from SHF, but I've upgraded some to Mafex... Some of the Universal Monsters from Neca and I'm crazy for them to start pumping out the Hammer Horror stuff! Random stuff from Mezco like The Crow, Ghostbusters, Dick Tracy, The Shadow and their original stuff like Doc Nocturnal. And I've always bought stuff from McFarlane that catches my attention.
I'm reaching the point where space is an issue and I'm not displaying nearly enough. Way too much stuff sitting around unopened. I'm starting to feel like I would rather have high end collectibles in smaller numbers than this massive amount of cheaper figures. I think it's time to part ways with my animated Clone Wars 3.75" line as well as a good portion of my Black Series. Marvel Legends could probably use a culling too to be honest. Imports are starting to spoil me and tempt me to get rid of all of this Hasbro stuff but I'll probably settle with mixing them together since the roster for imports are more limited. I think my ultimate plan is to fill the three shelves I'm currently working on and cull the rest. After that, if I want something new it has to replace something. Congrats on kicking the GI Joe habit because holy moly they got their claws in deep on me. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the ip but the designs are so good I had to jump in. Now that we have most of the popular characters it has slowed down for me but both Haslabs will need some serious space that I will need to figure out.
Currently collecting Marvel Legends. Been collecting them since 2001 when they were Spider-Man classics. Legends is the one line I will never stop collecting. GI Joe Classified. Serpentor sent me down the rabbit hole. Finally wrestling. Both AEW and WWE. With WWE I stick to Ultimate Legends and Elite Legends. With a few exceptions like my current favorite superstars like Seth, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor. Also going to need that Elite LA Knight when it releases…..Yeah! AEW I collect both Unrivaled and Unmatched. I try to Keep it one version per Wrestler. With a few exceptions for my favorites. Only have the Kenny Omega Supreme version. Anything past the first wave and retailer exclusives are non existent at retail. Since I’m a MOC for wrestling, the Supreme series boxes are tough to display
I’m actually in my life struggling with what I wanna collect right now and to focus on 1 toy line only no more jumping around different stuff . It’s too much money to give all the toy lines . Short story back 10 yrs ago when I first got into collecting . I was collecting marvel legends and I had a wonderful time collecting . Had a everything in order on the right path . Once I started to get into other toy lines all hell broke loose . I have struggled to get back to one toy line only again . Has anyone else been there before . I would love to hear your story . I'm focusing on 6 specifics now as well. But I'm also at the point in getting reasons to sell a big part of my collection. I've got most of it separated and boxed, still adding and need to catalog. I feel it's just time, and I'm ready to be more focused and work on space.
I got into collecting few years ago, when I went all in with Transformers Masterpiece and 3rd Party and if you plan to go into MPs my suggestion would be to accept the fact that you will have to complement it with 3rd party releases as otherwise you will probably die of old age before Takara completes Season 1 cast, let alone season 2 and The Movie casts. Imo, that is actually a good thing as some of the 3P stuff out there is much better than what Takara is bringing to the table in the last few years. As I am getting close to completing my season 1 and 2 cast, I am in a mode of looking for deals and waiting for characters I need to be released and budget got available, instead of saving some of that money like a responsible adult, I got into MotU instead! MotU and Transformers were by far my favourite franchises when I was a kid and I guess, they still are! 🤣 Although I loved the figures when I was little I didn't picked up vintage nor origins, as I don't think they look great on display, due to funky proportions. For a short moment I was considering Classics, but they were too expensive and international shipping from US would add substantial amount on top of it, so I picked up Masterverse instead. Although Masterverse initially was nowhere near as good as Classics, Mattel really put into a higher gear with last few waves and I am really happy with how my MotU collection is shaping up.With new buck being developed for Origins Cartoon line, I am picking up those as well, as they look really good. Once I am happy with my MotU collection, I might expand my collection with some of the core characters from TMNT (not sure which), SW Black Series and Marvel Legends but I have no plans to go all in as display space could be a problem in the future and I don't want to keep my stuff in storage. 😃

I'm just doing Marvel and DC Mafexes now with GI Joe Classified and Marvel Legends when on sale. I do delve into other lines but very character specific (Robocop and Darth Vader for example).
Great video. Like you I'm currently trying collecting multiple IPs but not everything related to it. Right now #1 is GI JOE being all in on Classified and vintage oring. I want to get the 12 inch figs from Threezero and of course I'm likely all in on the super 7 orings just have to see more about them. Then it's MotU Origins which are almost done and Masterverse but only New Eternia and Peincess of Power to hell with Kevin Smith and his lying ass. 3rd is Transformers, only G1 from Legacy and Studio series but like you I've been eyeing those MDLX. 4th is Marvel Legends. Comic book only and only characters I know. Lately my ML collecting has reduced massively. Other than the giant man Haslab I haven't paid for a new ML 6 - 8 months. Finally we have Star Wars. Black Series mostly but also Hot toys and then Micro Galaxy for the vehicles but only OT, PT, R1, TCW, Rebels, & Mando S1 & 2 related stuff.
Lines I collect. Transformers Marvel legends Dc multiverse Gi Joe classified Star Wars the black series Jurassic World Hammond collection I may pick up 1 or 2 figures from other lines, but these are the ones I’m most consistent with. And even in these lines, I’m quite picky.
I'm currently collecting Fortnite 4". I've almost got the entire line, but they're really confusing on whether or not they're continuing the line. Once in a while I'll see something else I want and I'll get it, like the At-At Walker in the Micro Squadron collection. Always wanted one as a kid but couldn't get it then. Got it now. Need seven more and Chewbacca in a santa suit and a sleigh. But until the Fortnite line is done I've stuck to that. Saved a lot of money that way. I resisted the Gargoyles, too.
I recently started dabbling in mezco 1:12, got the movie hellboy, leatherface (that I actually bought from you), and recently got the silent hill 2 pyramid head (cause I found him for $64 on amazon), and I might look into some of the knock-offs since I've heard a few of them are not bad. mafex looks awesome but they are just too expensive for the amount of stuff you get, but I am getting the upcoming john wick. I mostly stick to the cheaper lines like hasbro, mcfarlane, and NECA.
The wrestling stuff is cool. With so much being released and so much out there even just from Mattel, it's easy to have it overflow and I already have figures in storage. Started out being an Undertaker and Kane collection with a few other favourites like Goldust, Rey Mysterio and RVD so I definitely feel your need to take control of things. The Ring I have takes up space and I don't even know where I'll put it at this point.
I started collecting Hottoys or 1/6 scale about 10 years ago. My rule is, once I have a character in 1/6 scale I do not buy it again in any other. It helps save on space 1/6 is pretty much the "ultimate" action figure so what's the point in having a lesser version? as far as 6" scale I am pretty much done with marvel, DC, Star Wars. What I have is plenty. I focus on mythic legion and some of the smaller company stuff. I'm at the point where I would rather pay for quality and have less all over and be able to display properly.
Shout out to Transformers for being the best action figures ever conceived. The fact that it can change between a car and giant robot, while still articulating like a normal action figure, it’s just a million times more interesting to me. I could never purchase a Black Series or Marvel Legends after experiencing the limitless possibilities of Transformers
I quit collecting entirely, sold off tons of figures, and very rarely buy new ones. I'd rather use the space and money for hobbies that are more rewarding and creative and far less stressful. Hasbro made it nearly impossible to buy some of their products directly from them or their merchant partners, which pretty much destroyed the joy for me and drove me away. And in general, preorders, limited runs, FOMO, etc. all ruin the pleasure and put the focus on acquisition, which is unhealthy, unless you're a Ferengi :) But I do still follow the industry and channels like this because it's fun to enjoy the toys vicariously.
Im collecting original TMNT and went from MOTU Origins to the turtles of Grayskull line and loving it, except for not being able to find them in store.

I 100% feel it with the marvel figures, I too keep it to certain classic or iconic looks, mainly those from the first decade of Marvel and some of the mid-2000’s stuff since that was current for me at the time. I’m also curious on how Big Nerdy and others feel about the deep abyss that is DBZ figures 😅

I do collect three lines Mcfarlane toys DC Star Wars Black series but with that it's mostly clones and mandalorians and I collect Jazwares AEW figures. I only have four NECA figures and a few Marvel legends GI Joe classified and MOTU figures I rarely buy those figures.
I'm really happy with my X-Men marvel legend (and a few too many avengers), beast era transformers, and lightning collection. The only one I'm really struggling with is gargoyles. I just need them to get under $30 because I can't justify a new line that is pushing 40 a pop
My mains are marvel, legends, Black Series and these to a lesser degree DC Multiverse. I would like to get a representation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I have two gargoyles. I would like to get the rest and I have the main ThunderCats, but I need to get the newer ones and some of the villains I don’t have the $54 per figure to just be given away when I’m already it seems like every marvel legends figure that comes out
I like that at the end you said "if anyone wins the powerball..." because I decided that if I ever win the powerball I will start a UA-cam channel where I go buy and collect all the Mego Micronauts figures vehicles and playsets one by one. But I don't play the powerball much so forget everything I said. 😅
Star Wars, Power Rangers, DC Multiverse, random favorite characters in pop culture (Fiend Bray Wyatt, Ghost Papa Emeritus, KISS, Turbo Man). The one rule I have is, can I afford it? Pricing is the biggest hurdle for me. While I’m not made of money and have a kid now $150-$200 for anything is just too high now
Never buy what you want, always buy what you need that my rule. I mainly focus on mostly 1/6 Scale figure but still kinda collecting 1/12 scale and i'm done with 1/18 scale because i got all the ships i want out of the Vintage line.
This what I did for me I collected marvel universe card series 1 and some of series 2 for my Marvel Legends I have a mix of Toy Biz, Hasbro and Diamond Select. I no longer collect I got out when I got all the one's I wanted I don't care about the shoulder the hips if I like the the toy biz one I keep it collect for you. Newer never means better.
Well, I was strongly collecting Marvel, G.I. Joe, Star Wars Black, and Power Rangers, and minor collecting MOTU, and Jurassic Park. Power Rangers is taking a break so that gives my wallet some relief, but Army Building Cobra has taken up the slack. Actually, I use Star Wars Black for Army Building too. Aliens and Stormtroopers for Thanos Army, Mandalorians for Kang Army, Human Men for Kingpin Organization! I also can use the Women in a variety of roles.
I stopped collecting. Prices, exclusives, bad QC, repaints, bad online shops (wrapping), shipping prices, taxes, costums. There is no fun in collecting these days for me. I am more happy without it all!

Joe Classified, Action Force, Super 7 Ultimate Turtles, Saurozoic Warriors, Transformers, and a select few from Storm Collectibles. I'm not a completionist by any means, I pick and choose from each line. My partner also collects Transformers, Marvel Legends (Spider-Man), AWOK, G.I. Joe, Action Force, and Saurozoic Warriors.
What, no Funko Pops? I'm just kidding. I know there will always be room for those on your shelf. Lately, I'm all about Boss Fight Studios' Saurozoic Warriors.
i limit my collecting to aliens and 80s horror icons...including 2 i bought from your store...i got a capt.spalding about 2 weeks ago and the dog thing which is due later today.great store by the way.
I mostly cherry pick my favorite/definitive characters, collecting primarily MCU, with a smattering of Classified. My wife collects her favourites from Black series, & a touch of DC as a huge WW fan.

I’ve dropped everything except 4H stuff. I just see way more value in their figs. And they also retain value down the line better than Hasbro stuff

I think the reason so many toy lines fail these days is because people still won't let the idea that toys are for children go, kids DO NOT play with toys the way previous generations did, the adult collector is literally keeping this industry afloat. I run a day care and trust me for every 10 kids only about 3 play with toys, the rest only want their screens and granted that is 100% the parents fault but it is what it is
This video from you is actually a favorite of mine. I haven't been collecting for an extended period, but long enough to truly reflect on some of the items I possess. I'm considering narrowing down my collection. Personally, I have a strong affinity for Marvel Select, DC Multiverse, and Marvel Legends. However, with Marvel Legends, I'm contemplating quitting it entirely, except for perhaps two characters that I genuinely would like.
I appreciate that Marvel Legends offers variety, with multiple waves and sub-lines covering numerous characters. Yet, for me, this diversity can become overwhelming, and the temptation to collect everything creeps in. I don't want to fall into that rabbit hole or buy figures solely to complete a team or set that I don't genuinely care about, driven by the fear of missing out.
Another factor is the varying MRSP that Hasbro sets for their Marvel Legends merchandise. It seems inconsistent, but voting with your wallet becomes crucial. Recently, the Luke Cage with Mindless One BAF caught my eye. While I don't dislike it overall, after watching a review and weighing the pros and cons, I might wait for a sale or see if Marvel Select takes a shot at making him. I do like the character, and he would fit well into my collection, but I can't personally justify paying $24.99 for him. I might get him on sale and keep him in the box until another option comes along.
With that said, my collecting goal is to focus on pieces I genuinely want. As mentioned earlier, I'm considering wrapping up with Marvel Legends, keeping only those I really like, and boxing up the ones I don't want, likely to give them away. I'll definitely stick with Marvel Select and DC Multiverse, primarily for Batman and a few cherry-picked favorite characters. My aim is to maintain a character selection from the '90s to the early 2000s, not needing all but just a select few. If there's another line I'd consider trying, it would probably be the NECA TMNT. I like the look of the Last Ronin Figures, the Slash Archie Comics figure, and even the punk turtles. I may get one to see what it's like; they seem to hold up well based on reviews and some UA-cam videos I've seen
The main lines I'm focused on are: Marvel Legends (majority comic but also some MCU) and WWE Ultimates/Elites.
My secondary lines are: DC Multiverse and AEW
Lines that I occasionally pick up: Black Series, Classified, Transformers, and Funko Pops (Especially for cheap lol)
This is just chaos. You have no rules and collect everything.
I collect EVERYTHING G.I.Joe Classified. The way this line has blown up I can barely afford to keep up with it though, never mind consider anything else. I also get a few select Marvel Legends MCU figures that fit with the Classified design, scale and theme (characters like Captain America and Black Widow, Cable and Domino, etc.). Basically Joes and whatever other Hasbro figure may fit with the theme. As a kid who grew with 80s toys and cartoons, that's my holy grail. I also wanted to get some Transformers, but Hasbro's lines look like children's toys (the irony of that, I realize) and the Masterpiece line misses the point in my mind. In the end though, there came ThreeZero's MDLX and blew my mind, and it's now the only other line I collect. Seriously, those robot figures up close look like the best, coolest thing I've ever seen!
Just recently started collecting 6" so I can build some displays for my room and currently working on a ML and Mafex combined comic accurate X-Men/X-Force collection, I hope to eventually have a full Mafex collection of both teams (Keeping my fingers crossed lol) and that's what I'm using to keep me in check from going crazy and just grabbing anything ML I can get my hands on purely for the sake of having it and reach completion, I feel like pacing myself as I venture further into being a collector will make an eventual collection feel more rewarding in the pursuit of completeness, if such a thing exists lol.
I think I'm going to move on to collecting purely MCU related figures after that until I can have a complete display of every character from every movie.
Then more than likely move on to misc/more obscure Sentinel fighting armors and Hito kara kuri/play arts kai type renditions of Marvel related stuff.
Right now my top 3 lines I'm loving are GI Joe Classifieds, MOTO Masterverse (both Revelations and New Eternia stuff), and DC Multiverse with all the great sculpts. My wants that I haven't jumped into yet are FuRay planet, Savage Crucibles, and Animal Warriors of the Kingdom.
Great video Matt. You bring up a very interesting topic - how to keep focused. I am one of the fortunate that is faced with limited real estate so I cannot become a completionist. Also helping is that I only collect Marvel comic based characters exclusively so I don't dive into other brands. That all said, I do feel for the collectors that are trying to enjoy this hobby without going broke growing their collections following different brands at the same time.
I'm staying steady on Hasbro Marvel, Gi Joe, Star Wars, and select other scale figures & Robot Spirits Damashii Gundam.
Dropped or Dropping all MonsterArts, FiguArts, Mafex, Figma, LittleArmory, DX Chogokin Macross planes, Bandai Hi-Metal R, all 1/18 and 1/4 scales, 1/6 all (3A, 3-Zero, Hot Toys, Soldier Story, DAM, Sideshow, all Chicks, all Soldiers, all Motorcycles and vehicles, all kitbashes, all models and all extras). Some heavily scarred and saddened display dreams crushed, but 80% going on sale soon, which in effect, the contents of my one car garage, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, back to front.
But also still playing the lottery in hopes of saving it all, but I can't leave the planet and my kids with thousands upon thousands of toys to sell. So we'll see what happens as I ramp up those long packed away to sell, if I can look at them all and let them go....
The collecting industry as a whole has changed so much, I believe significantly in the past years. I've been an adult collector for 20 + years and I find nowadays it is almost impossible to find any good deals. So many figures come out way and they are overpriced. (A perfect example was the Madballs figures that came out a year or so ago with the 18 pt articulation at $50. TMNT is a line that has somewhat stayed reasonable although they had a line coe as at $50 as well a year or so back. GI Joe which I played with as a child is way overpriced as well. I wanted to get my son into it when he was younger but it was difficult to find any figures except in Toys R Us and they were too much for child to buy . I've gone down so many Rabbit Holes while I collected especially my Ebay days but now I try to limit myself due to the overproduction of product lines, characters, ect. Another issue is there are so many similar lines coming out. What I do occasion and kick my self afterwards is buy something that is on sale that I don't really want but because it's on sale I add it to the collection. I have instant buyers regret. LOL. I am mainly a horror collecting and try to limit myself to certain characters and am being more selective on the lines that I branch off into. Thank God that I never was into Star Wars, Superheroes or went into collecting GI. Joe, as have enough crap already and those line are just waaayyy too big. Thanks for the video.
I got into collecting action figures just 4 years ago when the pandemic hit. I'm collecting: Hush Batman, Reign of the Supermen and the X-Men from Mafex. MCU Avengers from SHF, but I've upgraded some to Mafex... Some of the Universal Monsters from Neca and I'm crazy for them to start pumping out the Hammer Horror stuff! Random stuff from Mezco like The Crow, Ghostbusters, Dick Tracy, The Shadow and their original stuff like Doc Nocturnal. And I've always bought stuff from McFarlane that catches my attention.
I'm reaching the point where space is an issue and I'm not displaying nearly enough. Way too much stuff sitting around unopened. I'm starting to feel like I would rather have high end collectibles in smaller numbers than this massive amount of cheaper figures. I think it's time to part ways with my animated Clone Wars 3.75" line as well as a good portion of my Black Series. Marvel Legends could probably use a culling too to be honest. Imports are starting to spoil me and tempt me to get rid of all of this Hasbro stuff but I'll probably settle with mixing them together since the roster for imports are more limited. I think my ultimate plan is to fill the three shelves I'm currently working on and cull the rest. After that, if I want something new it has to replace something.
Congrats on kicking the GI Joe habit because holy moly they got their claws in deep on me. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the ip but the designs are so good I had to jump in. Now that we have most of the popular characters it has slowed down for me but both Haslabs will need some serious space that I will need to figure out.
Currently collecting Marvel Legends. Been collecting them since 2001 when they were Spider-Man classics. Legends is the one line I will never stop collecting. GI Joe Classified. Serpentor sent me down the rabbit hole. Finally wrestling. Both AEW and WWE. With WWE I stick to Ultimate Legends and Elite Legends. With a few exceptions like my current favorite superstars like Seth, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor. Also going to need that Elite LA Knight when it releases…..Yeah! AEW I collect both Unrivaled and Unmatched. I try to Keep it one version per Wrestler. With a few exceptions for my favorites. Only have the Kenny Omega Supreme version. Anything past the first wave and retailer exclusives are non existent at retail. Since I’m a MOC for wrestling, the Supreme series boxes are tough to display
I’m actually in my life struggling with what I wanna collect right now and to focus on 1 toy line only no more jumping around different stuff . It’s too much money to give all the toy lines . Short story back 10 yrs ago when I first got into collecting . I was collecting marvel legends and I had a wonderful time collecting . Had a everything in order on the right path . Once I started to get into other toy lines all hell broke loose . I have struggled to get back to one toy line only again . Has anyone else been there before . I would love to hear your story . I'm focusing on 6 specifics now as well. But I'm also at the point in getting reasons to sell a big part of my collection. I've got most of it separated and boxed, still adding and need to catalog. I feel it's just time, and I'm ready to be more focused and work on space.
I got into collecting few years ago, when I went all in with Transformers Masterpiece and 3rd Party and if you plan to go into MPs my suggestion would be to accept the fact that you will have to complement it with 3rd party releases as otherwise you will probably die of old age before Takara completes Season 1 cast, let alone season 2 and The Movie casts. Imo, that is actually a good thing as some of the 3P stuff out there is much better than what Takara is bringing to the table in the last few years.
As I am getting close to completing my season 1 and 2 cast, I am in a mode of looking for deals and waiting for characters I need to be released and budget got available, instead of saving some of that money like a responsible adult, I got into MotU instead! MotU and Transformers were by far my favourite franchises when I was a kid and I guess, they still are! 🤣 Although I loved the figures when I was little I didn't picked up vintage nor origins, as I don't think they look great on display, due to funky proportions. For a short moment I was considering Classics, but they were too expensive and international shipping from US would add substantial amount on top of it, so I picked up Masterverse instead. Although Masterverse initially was nowhere near as good as Classics, Mattel really put into a higher gear with last few waves and I am really happy with how my MotU collection is shaping up.With new buck being developed for Origins Cartoon line, I am picking up those as well, as they look really good. Once I am happy with my MotU collection, I might expand my collection with some of the core characters from TMNT (not sure which), SW Black Series and Marvel Legends but I have no plans to go all in as display space could be a problem in the future and I don't want to keep my stuff in storage. 😃

I'm just doing Marvel and DC Mafexes now with GI Joe Classified and Marvel Legends when on sale. I do delve into other lines but very character specific (Robocop and Darth Vader for example).
Great video. Like you I'm currently trying collecting multiple IPs but not everything related to it.
Right now #1 is GI JOE being all in on Classified and vintage oring. I want to get the 12 inch figs from Threezero and of course I'm likely all in on the super 7 orings just have to see more about them.
Then it's MotU Origins which are almost done and Masterverse but only New Eternia and Peincess of Power to hell with Kevin Smith and his lying ass.
3rd is Transformers, only G1 from Legacy and Studio series but like you I've been eyeing those MDLX.
4th is Marvel Legends. Comic book only and only characters I know. Lately my ML collecting has reduced massively. Other than the giant man Haslab I haven't paid for a new ML 6 - 8 months.
Finally we have Star Wars. Black Series mostly but also Hot toys and then Micro Galaxy for the vehicles but only OT, PT, R1, TCW, Rebels, & Mando S1 & 2 related stuff.

I may pick up 1 or 2 figures from other lines, but these are the ones I’m most consistent with.
And even in these lines, I’m quite picky.
I'm currently collecting Fortnite 4". I've almost got the entire line, but they're really confusing on whether or not they're continuing the line. Once in a while I'll see something else I want and I'll get it, like the At-At Walker in the Micro Squadron collection. Always wanted one as a kid but couldn't get it then. Got it now. Need seven more and Chewbacca in a santa suit and a sleigh. But until the Fortnite line is done I've stuck to that. Saved a lot of money that way. I resisted the Gargoyles, too.
I recently started dabbling in mezco 1:12, got the movie hellboy, leatherface (that I actually bought from you), and recently got the silent hill 2 pyramid head (cause I found him for $64 on amazon), and I might look into some of the knock-offs since I've heard a few of them are not bad. mafex looks awesome but they are just too expensive for the amount of stuff you get, but I am getting the upcoming john wick. I mostly stick to the cheaper lines like hasbro, mcfarlane, and NECA.

The wrestling stuff is cool. With so much being released and so much out there even just from Mattel, it's easy to have it overflow and I already have figures in storage. Started out being an Undertaker and Kane collection with a few other favourites like Goldust, Rey Mysterio and RVD so I definitely feel your need to take control of things. The Ring I have takes up space and I don't even know where I'll put it at this point.
More people in hobbies need to talk more about the difference between collecting and hoarding. Great vid!🎉
I started collecting Hottoys or 1/6 scale about 10 years ago. My rule is, once I have a character in 1/6 scale I do not buy it again in any other. It helps save on space 1/6 is pretty much the "ultimate" action figure so what's the point in having a lesser version? as far as 6" scale I am pretty much done with marvel, DC, Star Wars. What I have is plenty. I focus on mythic legion and some of the smaller company stuff. I'm at the point where I would rather pay for quality and have less all over and be able to display properly.
I am strictly Marvel Legends, mainly due to finances, but have really been tempted by 6" G.I. Joe's. I have a handful of Marvel Select as well.
Shout out to Transformers for being the best action figures ever conceived. The fact that it can change between a car and giant robot, while still articulating like a normal action figure, it’s just a million times more interesting to me. I could never purchase a Black Series or Marvel Legends after experiencing the limitless possibilities of Transformers
I sold my collection a few years ago and put the money towards a house. I don't miss them too much, and i still keep up to date with the industry.
I quit collecting entirely, sold off tons of figures, and very rarely buy new ones. I'd rather use the space and money for hobbies that are more rewarding and creative and far less stressful. Hasbro made it nearly impossible to buy some of their products directly from them or their merchant partners, which pretty much destroyed the joy for me and drove me away. And in general, preorders, limited runs, FOMO, etc. all ruin the pleasure and put the focus on acquisition, which is unhealthy, unless you're a Ferengi :) But I do still follow the industry and channels like this because it's fun to enjoy the toys vicariously.
That last thing on the end about the toy museum, that'd be great if it ever happened.
Im collecting original TMNT and went from MOTU Origins to the turtles of Grayskull line and loving it, except for not being able to find them in store.

I 100% feel it with the marvel figures, I too keep it to certain classic or iconic looks, mainly those from the first decade of Marvel and some of the mid-2000’s stuff since that was current for me at the time. I do collect three lines Mcfarlane toys DC Star Wars Black series but with that it's mostly clones and mandalorians and I collect Jazwares AEW figures. I only have four NECA figures and a few Marvel legends GI Joe classified and MOTU figures I rarely buy those figures.
I collect Star Wars the black series, Marvel Legends and the 6 inch Mafex but only very select figures of my very favorite characters.
I recommend Mezco Two Face. He doesn't run much of a premium and he comes with alot of stuff.
I'm really happy with my X-Men marvel legend (and a few too many avengers), beast era transformers, and lightning collection. The only one I'm really struggling with is gargoyles. I just need them to get under $30 because I can't justify a new line that is pushing 40 a pop
My mains are marvel, legends, Black Series and these to a lesser degree DC Multiverse. I would like to get a representation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I have two gargoyles. I would like to get the rest and I have the main ThunderCats, but I need to get the newer ones and some of the villains I don’t have the $54 per figure to just be given away when I’m already it seems like every marvel legends figure that comes out

Star Wars, Power Rangers, DC Multiverse, random favorite characters in pop culture (Fiend Bray Wyatt, Ghost Papa Emeritus, KISS, Turbo Man). The one rule I have is, can I afford it? Pricing is the biggest hurdle for me. While I’m not made of money and have a kid now $150-$200 for anything is just too high now

I mainly focus on mostly 1/6 Scale figure but still kinda collecting 1/12 scale and i'm done with 1/18 scale because i got all the ships i want out of the Vintage line.
This what I did for me I collected marvel universe card series 1 and some of series 2 for my Marvel Legends I have a mix of Toy Biz, Hasbro and Diamond Select. I no longer collect I got out when I got all the one's I wanted I don't care about the shoulder the hips if I like the the toy biz one I keep it collect for you. Newer never means better.
Well, I was strongly collecting Marvel, G.I. Joe, Star Wars Black, and Power Rangers, and minor collecting MOTU, and Jurassic Park. Power Rangers is taking a break so that gives my wallet some relief, but Army Building Cobra has taken up the slack. Actually, I use Star Wars Black for Army Building too. Aliens and Stormtroopers for Thanos Army, Mandalorians for Kang Army, Human Men for Kingpin Organization! I also can use the Women in a variety of roles.
I know what I want for Christmas, a new set of display cabinets.

I collect way too many lines. Mythic Legions, Cosmic Legions, Savage Crucible, Marvel Legends (X-Men), Animal Warriors of the Kingdom, Jada Street Fighter, G.I. Joe Classified, Action Force, Super 7 Ultimate Turtles, Saurozoic Warriors, Transformers, and a select few from Storm Collectibles. I'm not a completionist by any means, I pick and choose from each line. My partner also collects Transformers, Marvel Legends (Spider-Man), AWOK, G.I. Joe, Action Force, and Saurozoic Warriors.

I mostly cherry pick my favorite/definitive characters, collecting primarily MCU, with a smattering of Classified. My wife collects her favourites from Black series, & a touch of DC as a huge WW fan.
Including speeder bikes, I have 81 vehicles. They are addictive.
