massive welldone to Saoirse, its very real for us women. My husband often works nights and I hate I can't go out and walk my dogs after 4.30 during the winter out of fear.
If parents made a bit of effort themselves they could find self defence classes in the local community. School can not constantly be responsible for teaching kids everything! Literally every other day you have a segment called “should schools teach…” ! How about “Should parents get their children to ….”
And it speaks volumes how as women this is a necessity rather than address the issues at the core. It's 2024 and this type of conversation is still happening... It's pretty sad
More for the schools to do ffs. Instead of schools, why not invest in community centres that teach first aid, self defence, cooking and nutrition, etc. There could be voluntary contributions from the community and the government subsidise the rest. Stop with schools as scapegoats. Where in the timetable would this take place? What training would teachers get to teach this. Its nuts
👌🏿☝🏿 if I hear one more, schools could ...No, schools have a lot on their plates. Where I live there are plenty of clubs delivering this in the community.
Get a grip on reality. Having it in schools makes it mandatory and everything we have in place so far, clearly isn't good enough. The aim is to prevent violence. Maybe think about the victims and cycles of abuse before worrying about the school timetables, tf. Could easily fit in PSHE
Ever since seeing Saoirse play Hanna, I knew she would have something good to say on how physically empowering a woman can be and what she said on The Graham Norton Show indeed qualifies. Thank you, Saoirse.
Men (not boys) think about safety all the time. It just sort of runs in the background. It's why we usually are cordial when meeting other men for the 1st time. That's because there is always an implied chance at violence. You talk to a man the wrong way and can get hands. Women, I don't think, understand this. Certainly not to the degree that men understand.
Having worked in a pre school environment, the teachers are responsible for teaching the kids academic the parents are responsible for teaching the basics and everything else
Sairose always saids it as it is in interviews. When I feel like I've been followed, I just walk fast or turn to check where they're going because some cases they're just going their way which is a sigh of relief.
@jacksoncrate umm...I think that's a bad idea. You are basically serving yourself to a potential predator. If anything, you should run to shops, restaurants, and other businesses where CCTV is likely to be present. Phone someone friend/ family/ coworkers. Give yourself a traceable trail in case they get you.
I got a friend to get her children to go to defense classes when they were 6 years old, to day no one can touch them now 18 years old and now 13 year old, and taught them respect girl and boy. What mums and dads need to teach their children to respect each other as well.
I totally agree that self-defence should be taught at schools across the country, especially with women learning self-defence.I've been a martial for almost 50 years of my life and I've had to use it in many a street confrontation over the years and it saved my life too,so yes I will always support self-defence being taught.
I feel safe walking back at night to my home if the lights are lit and if there’s a lot of people about so I don’t need to ask then but it has always frustrated me other less popular areas I’d have to ask to be walked home by a guy or walk with other girls.
My parents sent me to the boxing gym to learn self defence. 8 long years later I was the 2nd best boxer in England. I had 52 fights and came 2nd in every one of them 🥊
There is always one isn't there? It isn't a competition is it? Understanding the issue for women isn't minimising the issue for men is it? Making this comment is simply a derailing tactic to draw attention away from the actual problem of women having to think about every single day about how to defend themselves. This statement shows a complete lack of understanding or unwillingness to understand what that clip so beautifully showed - 3 men lightheartedly mocking defense methods because they don't have to worry at all about the chances of being attacked on a daily basis brought to silence by the Siorse who highlighted the reality of being a woman. Of course men get attacked, but it isn't something you think about all the time when you leave the house, when you walk across a park, when you walk to your car.
@@thedailysarahmen are over 70% the victims, so how don’t men think about these things? Men are way more likely to be attacked than women. You’re all making out men don’t have to think about it when in fact men have to think about it a lot more
There are bad men and bad women in this world. Those who do wrong, know that it’s wrong but do it anyway so this whole thing about teaching anyone is just silly
But men are over 70% of victims so why do women act as if women are the 70%? You’re not, men are. Men always think about defending themselves and are at a much higher risk. Everyone should be treated equally not giving women preferential treatment.
Self defense for women is not gonna do anything. An angry man is too intimidating. Everything a woman learns will get thrown out the window when a real situation happens. Find a good strong husband who's protective. And stop going after these "bad boys" and stop saying you don't need no man.

I was taught self defence whilst at high school - did judo for few years worth knowning
It was a humbling moment because it’s a truth that 90% of men will never think about or have to think about. I’m really glad she said it!
What? Men are over 70% of the victims of these crimes… men think about it a lot more then women do
You must be joking

Agree, more and more is being given to the schools to do.
Our school did a self defence class that was in 2006

Yes, teach all kids self defence.
Men have to think about thus too, it’s not just women
Clearly not to the extent that women have to...as that clip proved.

Women should be taught from a young age to adulthood effectively self defense that hinder an attacker.

Why in a so called civilised society does anyone have to worry about being attacked
Because bad people exist in civilised society
It's called humanity.
