I think literally everyone does a great job. The plot is nothing crazy, but its also not aplot aped from other better superhero movies like Morbias. The score is amazing, cinematograaphy is beautiful and actually looks like a shazam comic, the tone and feel thhe director is clearly going for is saturday morning cartoon, monster squad meets Goonies. You;re completely wrong about Lucy Lui and there is a lot of heart. It wasn't trying to be some complex dram like The Batman. It was trying to be Harry Potter meet Superheroes. Saying I am wrong about Lucy Liu is just not accurate, if you think she is good, that’s your opinion, compared to other performances she has given in the past like in Kill Bill or even her voice acting in Kung Fu Panda she is bad in my opinion. It does not matter how many times I have seen it, upon first watch I found it bland and forgettable. I’ve seen Grave of the Fireflies once and I remember everything about that film, don’t need another rewatch to know it’s a masterpiece. The film is bland and forgettable because it’s another mcguffin race it’s not interesting, the film doesn’t give you a reason to care about what’s going on in my opinion, the chemistry isn’t there unlike the first film with all the characters and the third act is really just another by the numbers climax that we have seen hundreds of times in these types of films. A deus ex machina is when something happens with no set up to solve a problem in the story, which in this case was Shazam dying and yeah it happens out of no where. The scene in the dream is actually about Billy thinking he's letting everyone down. And he's scared they won't see him as leader anymore. As for the Wonder Woman coming in at the end its because Billy literally says he's going to send Wonder Woman a letter when he finds out what Steve can do. He therefore sends her the letter and we can assume from there that she kept an eye on the situation and found out he had died and did her magic wonder woman shit to get to him. The whole movie sets up the spark of a God can light up the staff. We've seen Wonder Woman do OP shit in Wonder Woman 1 to Ares where she was controlling Zeus's lightning. Therefore its not a stretch that she has the power to send the lightning that would transform Billy back to Shazam restoring his powers. This is a fucking Superhero universe where men fly and billionaires fly around with Batwings and no one figures it out. So Wonder Woman being daughter of Zeus in this unniverse and being able to summon the lightning that transforms shazam is not all that illogical or a Deus Machina at all. Plus its clearly a movie aimed at kids not cynical grumpy old comic nerds who'll pick apart all that crap. (I'm not calling you a cynical grumpy old nerd by the way, i'm talking about the critics asking why Billy didn't die at the end? Like why not fucking kill Alladin Micky Mouse, Spiderman and Dumbo while we're at it) Yes as an older guy I would have appreciated them going there but as a company I understand why they didn't want some miserable ending in a franchise aimed at kids.
