Hey Pete! Hope all is well and your Memorial Day weekend was a great one. Thank you for your business and thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback and suggestions on the SFC30. The video has gone around in house here and reviewed during our product development meetings. We appreciate this! Stay well!
Okay. I've got a lot of comments today. I feel inspirational. So Pete, there was a man named Neil Peart, who some would argue was one of the best drummers in the world. That being said, he went to a cymbal company called "Sabian," and worked directly with them to design cymbals that fit his liking. Apparently sabian was obsessed with Neil, and catered to his every need and desire. They created lines of symbols that came out with his signature on it. That being said, sounds like you could help be the designer of some lawn mowers. Think about it. Make the necessary contacts. You have enough influence now that they would listen to you.. 👍
Finally a SCAG on Pete's channel! I've been mowing with a 52" TT for 12 years. Absolutely a beast. The only downside I have is the weight of the machine. If the turf is soft you have to be a little more gentle. They are built like tanks!
"This was on my radar..." Me too! I'm glad you're doing this review. I trust your feedback because I know you paid for it and are going to tell the God's honest truth!
Thank you for this real honest review. Telling it how it is.. people get upset at me when tell it... I don't like the taps on the side.. Toro has welded bars in the same place they get caught on side walks.. when cutting Low . Every thing about this new scag is cool. I would have to try one in person... good job video review..
I’m a homeowner with a scag 61” zero turn. Been a few years with no issues. Been great but I’m not a commercial guy beating on it 8 hours a day. Mows great and use it to to haul a small dump trailer around the property. Also have a hitch on it for dragging a mat and doing other things yard projects.
You got no business watching this video then, those little walk behinds even if they’re belt drive will destroy this mower any day of the week. These push mowers are too heavy to be steering manually tbh
The issue with the difficulty putting the bagger on is when your bending over 20 times a day, it gets old quick. Ive had my sfc 30 for a few weeks now and that’s my biggest complaint. Great video as always Pete!
Happy Memorial Day weekend Pete. After taking time to reflect on why we have this coming holiday, I was so excited to see the demo. Maintenance plays a big part in my decision when buying something with an engine. I use a fluid extractor to change the oil in all of my engines. No mess, no drain pan. Put the tube down the oil fill hole and suck out the old. Game changer in maintenance. Good luck with the new mower. It seems as if you were trying to talk yourself into keeping it. If you don’t feel it don’t keep it. Enjoy the hibachi tonight.
Cats eye gold is paint color. We run all scag equipment and have for years after switching from wright and exmark. All scag is made in Wisconsin. I can put you in contact with the rep for our area if you want. He will help and answer in concerns. Appreciate the review!
Being a Timemaster owner, I’d sure like the larger gas tank on this. I have no chance of finishing our 20,000 square feet on a single tank of gas. On the other hand now that I’m used to Personal Pace I’d have a tough time giving it up. For my money Kohler has it all over Briggs. Looks like the pulley access on this is way quicker as well.
Ty for review. I am considering both: Scag sfc 30", Ferris fw15 32" Not sure yet ( home residential, non commercial, I just want the best cut, even with wet grass )
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

I have this mower and I've found that anything under 2" is not happening because of that tab you're talking about on the deck. I mow only bermuda yards ands some of my customers don't have perfectly level yards. I can take my Toro Turfmaster and on the same yards mow at 1.5" which is the lowest the Scag and the Toro can both mow. Any little uneven spot I hit the mower drags and tears the turf. I'm selling my mower for this reason. Anyone mowing higher than 2" I don' t think it will be an issue and you'll get a great mower. Also, just be careful when changing the deck height if you've been mowing for a while. That pin gets hot because it's close to the motor. I've had mine get warm enough that it takes gloves on to change the cutting height. I don't think you're parking break is set up just right. On my mower once you put that break on you can't push it one inch.
I have this mower as well cuts phenomenally but I will be selling because on any uneven ground this thing drags in tears up the yards. I literally cannot mow at 2.5 inches unless the ground is completely even, It will even scrape the concrete when pushing it back to the trailer at 2.5 inches.
the parking brake should be mounted with a spacer small end towards handle My dealer put on backwards I fixed and the parking brake works it only locks one wheel though!
I was considering a 30 push and spoke to my local Scagg dealer and he basically said they're too new and they're having a lot of conversations with Scagg trying to improve problems that customers are having. He said that it's pretty common for the unit to come back for service the very first week it's out. They've scaled back production because of low quality work. They're working on solutions to mechanical problems actually on the assembly line. It's unfortunate that a new product has so many issues. Don't be the guinea pig. I'm sure that next year they'll be a lot better mower.
Not accurate on the pulling back production. That said with this mower, like any product we come out with, we are always staying plugged into the customer base with feedback (this video being one of the great options) to improve our products.
@@ScagPowerEquipment What changes are happening? Why isn't this type of review sought prior to release? An incredible turf community is on YT. It seems you'd be wise to tap into it, not only for profits but input.
@@stephenfox3236 Stephen, we tap into all input from every social channel - Scag Nation, Facebook, Instagram, UA-cam, Twitter, and now even TikTok. Our product development team monitors these channels and is also made aware of any product feedback that may arise. We are actively working on adding caster wheels onto the SFC30, as well as an accessory to the SFC30. No additional information to give at this time, but stay plugged in! Appreciate your feedback!
@@ScagPowerEquipment Thank you for that. I see the monitoring occurs after product release. It seems before release some time with demo models would allow changes prior to production/release. I want to get one of these, but with some of the feedback... I'll need to wait and see. Thanks again.
@@stephenfox3236 We certainly do that as well. Just a fun FYI about our product lifecycle when we develop new models: Each new machine (mower, blower, whatever) will go through a concept stage where we build early prototype units for in the lab testing and in the field testing. Those concept machines will be with landscapers all throughout the US so we can get them in various different cutting conditions and grass types. We will also get them with people that use our product already and those that don't. A good example of this is from our V-Ride II launch. We had the concept machines with Scag customers who ran the original V-Ride and also with customers who've never run a Scag in their life. All that feedback and test results make it to the next stage which is the pilot build. For pilot we build quite a few more machines, sometimes in the dozens so our sales team can start showing dealers and end users alike. Pilot is done where we have enough time prior to full production to still make some changes prior to full production. Your feedback is what absolutely drives our brand and we start getting customer feedback on new machines extremely early in the process and it doesn't stop after the product in launched.
These are great if you’re mowing weekly i have turfmaster its good on short grass anything long it struggles. Im not sure i would buy again thr scag ones here in australia are over 5k bit pricey i think
The big league kit will go on there. I personally used the TimeMaster kit. It has to be mounted extremely rearward due to the deck adjustment sliding back and forth. I ended up just behind the bagger tab, 7.0 inches up from the little ear on the bottom of the deck, and 3.75” back off of the center of the chrome handlebar bolt. This was the best that I found to make full use of the higher deck heights and still keep a fairly good angle at the higher cutting heights. Disclaimer: the bag becomes hard to deal with, and the roller makes contact with the bag when it’s full. This gives potential to eventually rub holes in the bag for premature wear of the fabric. The bagging system is a distasteful of a design and I will probably take the bag and throw it in the shed forever because it’s too hard to deal with.
man i wish honda would come out with a 30" mower as good as their 21" HRC commercial mower. Ive run exmark 30's since they came out, and I also have the honda. The exmark 30's have their good points and bad. Ive been eyeing up this mower as well. Glad to see your doing a review on this one. From first glance, I dont think they are head and shoulders above the exmark 30's.
Since they got the swivel wheels now I’m going to pull the trigger because it built way better then the exmark and how worse could it be and you can’t go wrong with scag!
Good afternoon Pete when you were ceramic Cudi I thought wow should have gone to the dealer before they put it together you could have gotten all the nooks and crannies but anyways what I had my landscape business I asked about bad capacity they said on mowers like this the reason they limit the bag capacities because the way the weight hangs off the back it will lift the blade up in effect the true cut of the mower he referred to it as the Seesaw effect keep up the great work sir love new toys that orange paint reminds me of the old Bobcats I do wish I had my old one you could drop that thing off of building it when it break that frame went off my trailer on I-4 at 70 spun around on the rubber wheels and went off in the grass
220lb for a manual steer mower is headed in the wrong direction. The Timemasters we use at 140lb are heavy enough. 130-135 lb that actually pulls itself would be the limit on all day use for a manual steer mower IMHO
At least the SCAG will last as opposed to the time masters that aren’t built quite well enough to handle commercial usage. SCAG has a solid reputation for being built to stand the test of time. Cut quality is also superior to any other mower I’ve ever used. Personally, I’m looking forward to buying one of these 30s. Perfect for tight lawns and more versatile than the 32” stander (on hills, in other words)
@@MrBones2020 I have 2 rthat are on season 7. They really are fine. Typical wear items like drive belt and blade cable. less than $50 / year in parts. We use them as trim mowers and on smaller lots, 158 / week. Theyre really fine
Yeah you’re right, I sold my fw15 after using it for like an hour. They’re way too heavy, I’d really suggest even a belt drive walk behind 32” than these push mowers and they’re only a couple bucks more
Grind That Lip Off So it can Run smoother on a 1" cut . Also Should have bin made with a ( Steel or Aluminum ) mesh catch bag in the rear Then it would have bin the King Of commercial Push mowers .
Pete could you please tell me what the 3 kbgs are and which plots they are on they are looking amazing and also it would be really interesting to see a pass or two through the kbg maintained at a 3 inch height of cut until the fall to see how well it survives through the summer compared to the lower cut kbg. Thank you for all that you do.
That's wild, $2,300 only 2 years ago. Now it's $3,000. Cub Cadet did the same thing with their SC900, was $400 3 years ago now $629. They're all doing it.
Okay. Pete I love you, but thank All Mighty God for increased playing speed. 🤭❤️❤️❤️ And anybody else: How many people said "Oh my god! Really?!?" when he admitted to ceramic coating the blades? 😄 Love you Pete. I'm thinking about buying one now, but I only have just under an acre of residential. I'm just tired of my week ass 6.75 Toro with a Briggs & Stratton. I need some power.
This mower is built in a way where it seems very reliable, but I returned mine the next day. I was mulching only ~1.5 inches of thick, dry St Augustine and I was getting random blades on every pass. Even if I took it at half speed (still full throttle of course) the issue persisted. Walk around with this mower before you buy it IN GRASS. If the turf is wet at all these small hard wheels dig in and it's back heaviness digs in a rut. I use a 30" Timemaster and it's .8 mph faster and like 100 lbs less and shockingly cuts way better. Considering briggs decrease in reliability I would rather buy it twice than this big bastard once. It may be right for you though.
Spartan makes the best looking mowers out there. To bad they have so many issues, or at least mine does!!! I learned a valuable lesson about buying a mower from a company that had only been on the market for a couple years at the time. Let them work the kinks out the first 4-5 years before trusting a new brand/product. Their new mowers are much better built than they were 4 years ago though!!
No reverse for a "commercial grade" push mower? Don't know if you ever saw a Sarlo BigMo 30" but it was pretty cool for a single 30" blade.... talk about getting some lift! Only problem with it was the front swivel casters wouldn't hold a side slope without wanting to nose dive.
When it’s dragging are you in the 1.5” setting with the pin or did you go beyond that? Cause obviously it’s designed to cut at 1.5” at the lowest setting so if it drags , that’s on you
I mow commercial in your local area. I'm a one man show that needed one "push mower" to do everything I run into. That Scag has a 224 CC motor. My Ferris FW 15 has a 390cc motor. The only time it bogs is if you hit metal with it. Handyguy2016 UA-cam Channel has covered every aspect of the machine for your convenience. When somebody makes something better I'll buy that.
@@mattsfirewoodvideos738 the reverse feature alone makes it worth buying. I cannot stress enough how much of a back saver and energy saver it is. i have developed muscle memory of pulling my fingers back and try the same movement on my other mowers without reverse, it pains me not having that feature lol
I’d much prefer my FW15. One lever moves the deck up and down with little effort . The hydrostatic transmission goes forward and “reverse”. The front casters allows it to turn with one hand. The 390CC motor is a beast and you can tell the blade speed is high! The cut is exceptional!
the reverse feature is soooooooo freaking nice. it literally saves your body on the job. way less exerted energy on turns and places where you need to back up. i wish all my push mowers had that lol, i find myself pulling back my two index fingers from muscle memory and when nothing happens im like omg this sucks so much 😭
It's hard to say these are the same kind of mower given the costs? I'm picking up the Scag 30in on Thursday for $2k with .2hrs, justifying another $1700 for the features you're saying I'd hope it comes with a lot more than "reverse" and another 150lbs?
If the fw15 never bogs down; pete said the sfc 30 did on his recently fert'd lawn area. Then I say, why not have more power. Please show how it does with 8AM wet grass
The only problem with the fw15 every dealer in a 15 hour drive radius has been on back order for 4 months and estimated to be on back order for another 3 to 6 months so the scag with casters is probably going to be my only option
Hey Pete. It looks nice and heavy duty. Yes there’s things they have to change to a bigger Bagger size , remove or update that piece that drags and rips turf , let’s get a 1” cut. What if any engine options ? Kawasaki ? How about mowing options mulching blades ? Wonder how trans will hold up. Let’s see they SCAG does with customers concerns for updates. Nice video
I just got one the other day and if I could post pics of my yard it looks amazing baseball field or golf course quality but I just got it for residential use I've never used a commercial mower but it was hard at first not like the cheap big box store mowers those really suck feels like a toy, Don't know about any body else but I would buy again.
I've had my SCAG 30 a littel over a year. I have a half an acre with a gate seperating the front and back. PROS: Cuts great even wet grass, easy to adjust deck, easy start. CONS: Castors don't make that much of a difference, too heavy for small winding spaces, weight! If I was a commercial mower and had to use this all day on small lawns, I would be exhausted. Go with the Honda standard machine that mulches and significantly lighter. The SCAG cuts well on open terrain but its anything but eay to use in small areas. I know SCAG want to build tough, but how about reducing weight but still keep it tough. A composite deck might help, or other weighs to lighten it up. As is, I really could not reccomend for small areas.
For that price should have an electric start. Recently got a scag tiger cat 2 and overall I like it. Hydros are so dang touchy it’s hard to keep a straight line. My main complaint.
@@GCITurf have never used a Wright. No dealers remotely close. I love my Walker ghs hydros. Smoothest I’ve used between John Deere, toro, exmark and scag.
How do you think it compares to the exmark commercial 30 that you mentioned? I have 2 of the exmarks and have not been happy with them. Would like to replace them.
sorry I keep commenting but I was thinking about putting a striper on it but then I mowed with it stripes excellent almost as good as your allett rotary I had to go over twice but owell
I'm not impressed with it. It's too easy to wheelie it, I think it's underpowered...should have a bigger engine...and I agree about those rails on the back corners. REally appreciate the "review" Pete, thanks.
Great review!! I tested this mower the other day at my dealer. The reason I didn’t buy was the ergonomics of the handles. My wrists were over flexed the whole time making it so uncomfortable.
Any update? Did you keep the unit or sell it? If kept, how do you like it? Better or worse than original review? I saw a comment from Scag in this chain about caster wheels in a future version.
I watched one of your videos when you were testing the Masport 21 and I think I remember you saying you gave them to your crews. Do you still have those? How did they work for you? Are the Ybravos better?
We picked up masport as a dealer. They have took off really well. Was surprised to find out they had a 4 year warranty. Love the tires on the pro versions :).

Nice review, Pete. Thank you for your honest opinion.
Beautiful lawn
Nice mower. Thanks for showing
I use my friends xmark something zero turn mower it's not new but still cuts good sure needs springs in his seat though
man i wish honda would come out with a 30" mower as good as their 21" HRC commercial mower.
@@got2getit204 where do you buy the lawn mower

I like your video anyways. You seem like a really cool guy. Wish I was on your mowing crew. I mow alone and do a lot of yards per month.
Great video love the new mower
Call it "professional experience and verification" 😁
Love you Pete. One of these dnag days I'm gonna get an arsenal to be successful like you.
I see Ford dually wheels at minute 4:35.....but I don't remember a video about it. From one Die Hard Ford guy to another, lets see this truck!
@GCI TURF SERVICES Thank you for your honest review. Look forward to your next review on this piece of equipment. Take care friend!
If the bag was too big it would be extremely heavy, just a thought.
They’re way too heavy, I’d really suggest even a belt drive walk behind 32” than these push mowers and they’re only a couple bucks more
This mower is definitely designed for healthy soil… ITS HEAVY.
Great mower!
Your turf is so amazing wow that blue is beautiful
Grind That Lip Off So it can Run smoother on a 1" cut . Also Should have bin made with a ( Steel or Aluminum ) mesh catch bag in the rear Then it would have bin the King Of commercial Push mowers .
Pete could you please tell me what the 3 kbgs are and which plots they are on they are looking amazing and also it would be really interesting to see a pass or two through the kbg maintained at a 3 inch height of cut until the fall to see how well it survives through the summer compared to the lower cut kbg. Thank you for all that you do.
Righteous review.
Nice honest video brotha
Always keep what works. That’s my motto
That's wild, $2,300 only 2 years ago. Now it's $3,000. Cub Cadet did the same thing with their SC900, was $400 3 years ago now $629. They're all doing it.
They will drop when nobody is buying them. Same as new car prices right now.
Looks like a great mower....I probably would buy one, only because its hard to find a zero turn thats a 36inch! but I like the SCAGE push mower!
Good honest review
Okay. Pete I love you, but thank All Mighty God for increased playing speed. 🤭❤️❤️❤️
And anybody else: How many people said "Oh my god! Really?!?" when he admitted to ceramic coating the blades? 😄
Love you Pete. I'm thinking about buying one now, but I only have just under an acre of residential. I'm just tired of my week ass 6.75 Toro with a Briggs & Stratton. I need some power.
I accidentally left a video on nor.al speed and grew very concerned that he was especially depressed. I watch at 1.25.
@@paulp3369 🤭
I'm at 1.5, and sometimes 1.75 if he slows the pace too much.. 😁
We got one in our showroom but no one's been interested in it yet. Seems the Toro personal pace is the go-to around here
This will be my first commercial mower
Hey. Does the handle fold are lay all the way down flat?
That thing is a Beast Pete.
Quick question Pete
Do you put the ceramic coating underneath the deck?
Yes
I heard them ferris 30 are really nice I have an exmark commercial 30s and it's a bit underpowered but I love it
@@mattsfirewoodvideos738 the reverse feature alone makes it worth buying. I cannot stress enough how much of a back saver and energy saver it is. i have developed muscle memory of pulling my fingers back and try the same movement on my other mowers without reverse, it pains me not having that feature lol
Have you heard about the ferris fw15 , very similar but better built in my opinion
I’d much prefer my FW15. One lever moves the deck up and down with little effort . The hydrostatic transmission goes forward and “reverse”. The front casters allows it to turn with one hand. The 390CC motor is a beast and you can tell the blade speed is high! The cut is exceptional!
yepppp me too 😁
the reverse feature is soooooooo freaking nice. it literally saves your body on the job. way less exerted energy on turns and places where you need to back up. i wish all my push mowers had that lol, i find myself pulling back my two index fingers from muscle memory and when nothing happens im like omg this sucks so much 😭
It's hard to say these are the same kind of mower given the costs? I'm picking up the Scag 30in on Thursday for $2k with .2hrs, justifying another $1700 for the features you're saying I'd hope it comes with a lot more than "reverse" and another 150lbs?
If the fw15 never bogs down; pete said the sfc 30 did on his recently fert'd lawn area. Then I say, why not have more power.
Please show how it does with 8AM wet grass
The only problem with the fw15 every dealer in a 15 hour drive radius has been on back order for 4 months and estimated to be on back order for another 3 to 6 months so the scag with casters is probably going to be my only option
checkout the Ferris FW15 32" hydro. I was debating on the Scag 30 too but ended up with the FW15 for a few reasons.
3500 for the ferris. Wow. That thing looks like a beast
Did you ceramic coat under the deck? Maybe a dumb question but I believe clean out would be extremely easy
Nice video
Had one returned it the next day. Mowing at 2-3 inches it wasn’t ideal.
How'd it do at those settings
That's one heavy beast.
I just got one the other day and if I could post pics of my yard it looks amazing baseball field or golf course quality but I just got it for residential use I've never used a commercial mower but it was hard at first not like the cheap big box store mowers those really suck feels like a toy, Don't know about any body else but I would buy again.
Same here quality of cut is vastly improved over a Residential Mower. I am really impressed with this Mower so far.
Good looking mower! Great video!👍
SCAG still the best I was the first person to ever own the old Scag 3 wheel tractor when it came out back in the day
Can’t be a time master for homeowners. I promise
Could you please make a side by side comparison video with this and the Ferris model that competes with it? Thanks for the video Pete!
My main complaint.
i agree with the electric start that would have been nice. i love the sensitivity of the wright hydros...
Hands down it’s a better mower than the exmark 30 IMO
@@GCITurf it looks like it. Thank you

Should be 90lbs lighter lol
Its okay the next one is always better.
Toro time master 30 inch has the 223 cc engine. It has its flaws but has plenty of power.
Hey my friend where did you get that ceramic coating from thanks 🙂👍
How it compares to the Ferris push mower?
Great review!! I tested this mower the other day at my dealer. The reason I didn’t buy was the ergonomics of the handles. My wrists were over flexed the whole time making it so uncomfortable.
Any update? Did you keep the unit or sell it? If kept, how do you like it? Better or worse than original review? I saw a comment from Scag in this chain about caster wheels in a future version.
Speaking of new equipment, Did you get a new truck too?!!!
@@kgmowers The Masports are great mowers - just got to educate certain customers about them from my experience.
