As in it looks like a sheet of cloth that could be torn off, so to me it looks like she’s rejecting her mother if the ivy’s represent her. Don’t quote me on this but I believe Ena’s first set also features Narcissus so it’s not new for her to be seen with them.
Another thing I love about Vivid BAD SQUAD’s new designs is that each member has a little of the group’s signature pinkish red color on their outfit now.
I love the new WxS looks because now they feel more put together. Before it felt like they were all individual performers who decided to join up, which to be fair is exactly what they are. But now they feel more like a group. They belong together in a set.
I agree with you on Mizuki, but I also think that may be the point? They're at the point where they're fighting to come out, which makes a lot of people go deeper into the closet, hide themselves more, etc. The cheerful persona they had is slipping, showing the audience that it was really a mask, pretending everything was okay, instead of Mizuki actually acknowledging their past and future.
@@maxnch33se its actually not particularly canon, but heavily HEAVILY implied. Its just known that they have a secret that they’re hesitant to tell. Their gender is not particularly clear either, as they use they/them pronouns. However, in an event (the kamiyama festival one i believe?) it does a flashback where rui had called them mizuki-kun, but in present he calls them mizuki-san. In future events though, i do believe their secret will eventually come to light and it will become canon that they are indeed (hopefully) transgender!

i don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but fun fact: at 19:36 nene’s new outfit’s buttons are meant to symbolize the rest of the wxs members! yellow for tsukasa, pink for emu and that lilac/purple for rui :3 i think it’s a really cute detail honestly
I like how tsukasas new render has him standing more firmly on the ground, unlike his old one where he kinda looked off balance. I think it does a really good job showing off how he’s become more mature and aware than before :)
I’m pretty sure MMJ’s blue color is meant to reference their secondary “sky” theming which is seen a lot in their events. Their new stage is even in the sky but I completely agree which your criticisms on them it really is a shame they lost some of their individuality and I think green would’ve worked much better than the blue since it wouldn’t overly clash or blend with any of their image colors I’ve seen a lot of people say green would be ugly but I think a really nice pastel green would be nice. Also I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Pink on all of VBS’ designs (On Akito and Ans pants and Toya’s collar) its a small detail but a nice way to work their unit colors into their designs and make them look more uniform. Also makes Kohane look a bit more like the unit representative since her color is so similar its like the rest of them have a bit of her color in their designs. Basically like what happened with Haruka but done correctly. But great video! Excited for more content!
i love their sky theme, but i feel if they balanced the colors differently it coupdve been better. having their accent colors be bright paired with a light blue wouldve been nice
I personally think that the choice to make mafuyu’s outfit asymmetric is nice because i think it shows us that maguey is letter herself be more messy and not the perfect girl her mother wanted her to be
actually i really like how subtly ena's skirt with the tight accordion pleats resemble a sketchbook!! it gives me the impression that she's not as into her selfie-taking and clout chasing vanity as much and is taking her passion more seriously now. the high collar also has a more professional yet still casual hoodie vibe her platform boots still shows her fashionable side though!! very good touch! also overall 25ji distancing themselves from the school uniform look also feels like they're becoming more grown up now, especially mafuyu mizuki going for tights and long sleeves (as other mentioned) also invokes the sense that they're going deeper into the closet, but their boots, belt and buckle really invokes fashion designer (their sister's influence?) yet still keeping their love for cute things with a subtle ruffled skirt and petticoat is a nice touch too (also they're holding a baby blue lolly shaped in a heart and chose to distance it away from their face instead of having it closer compared to before. the subtle storytelling here is so good) i think the reason why everyone seems to be 'becoming more darker and depressed' with their favor for black (other than mafuyu) is to highlight mafuyu's story in particular since the story has been always focused on her out of everyone else!
the reason the new miku for the empty sekai has shes on is because in japan you take your shoes off before commiting suicide, so when she has her shoes back on, it resembles her growing out of depression.

Someone once told me that the reason there are shoes up on wires is because people tie their shoe laces together and throw them up on wires before they commit suicide Before when I was younger I used to laugh at it because I thought it was a waste of money and now I look at it up there wishing their new life could at least be better
I actually really like how closed off Mizuki is in the new design, it really shows their fear of being found out about their secret, as if they're backing away and their cheerful persona is breaking off. My favorite is Leo/Need's outfits ( totally not biased ), I love the more professional, mature look everyone has, it makes them look more like pros rather than random kids posing with instruments and posting the pictures on Instagram to look cool.
What makes Nightcord's new fits so great - imo - is this merging of their most prominent visual themes. The muted colors are obvious considering the Sekai, and all of the characters have been associated with flowers for a long time, hence the flowers in the dresses. Two new additions to the group's visual motifs are water (seen in like 90% of their card art now, as well as the addition of a Lake to the Empty Sekai) and clockwork (mostly associated with Mafuyu, who can be read as embodying as an automaton instead of a marionette). The literally "washed out" look of the girl's costumes reflects the water. Like they're outfits that have been pulled out of the lake in the sekai. Meanwhile the vocaloids embody the clockwork - and you can see that motif in all of their new designs if you go looking at their cards. In addition, I think the vocaloids being more put together does do a good job to reflect the group's healing. Sekai is a manifestation of the emotional state, and the ragged look of the OG designs reflected that. They're not wearing tattered clothes anymore because the girls are getting better, even if they still have a ways to go.
18:08 this is actually so funny, considering when i cosplayed tsukasa for halloween last year, it came way too small, and i couldnt fit myself into the pants or shirt it came with, so i had to just use some random black pants i had at home
Something that we should remember with mizuki is that they haven’t told the other girls about the real them, although mizuki had gotten closer to the group they still hide their real personality, (which kills me in the even quests) So maybe if there is another redesign and mizuki had told them all ‘bout them self, then maybe mizuki will have more of a happy costume like before This is all of course me interpretations and this definitely may not be the case!
Maybe the card suites on their first outfit represented their "house of cards", and that it's going to collapse soon enough as indicated by the new outfit?

I think adding blue to keep cohesion is perfectly fine but making it the vocal color of ALL their designs was, in my opinion, a bad idea. If they made the skirts and collars their own individual colors and then just made like the button thing blue, it would’ve looked better imo. There are of plenty of edits of the mmj designs that do this and in my opinion they look better.
I think mizuki got duller because they dont feel the need to put on a happy mask anymore, when the game was released mizuki always looked like the most energetic one because they didn't want people to worry about them. But now they are slowly warming up and trusting Nightcord more, so their dullness represents how they truly feel on the inside
Hear me out, Emu's new costume also shows her development of putting reality into consideration with the darker pink and less colors but still having some of the colors to show that she still has that childlike wonder

Overall I really like how the vibe of the designs have gone from "students with barely any money grabbing random clothes from their closets and trying to make it work" to "hell yeah, we are units now so we are ✨coordinated✨" Tho I agree that most of the vocaloids, despite having good designs, seem to have lost the cohesiveness shared with their og squads, which makes me wonder if it's foreshadowing for something coming up... As for the groups themselves: Leo/Need: I definitely like these new designs better and love the coordinated outfits (especially Shiho's) but I feel that star/astronomy theme that they are supposed to have should be more present in the designs. MMJ: I agree with everything you said about them. I get that they might be trying to incorporate a new motif (blue sky, maybe signifying that have literally jumped onto a next level) for them but I think that's a boring direction to go on given how almost all of the groups have sky related themes that feel way stronger with them than with MMJ. So I agree that maybe sticking to the Clover motif might have been better given how unique and special feels to them. Vivid Bad Squad: No notes for them, the new designs are perfect and I'm glad that the group has been able to knock some fashion sense on Akito. WxS: I am conflicted because on one hand I really like the new colour palettes but on the other hand I feel that they left behind some really cute details that made their previous fits stand out. N25: Love the flower patterns incorporated in them and shape of the dresses. This is just my personal interpretation but the reason that this loss of identity might be relevant for their next phase of development. N25 has made a lot of progress ever since their first events, which might be why Miku overall looks more symmetrical, representing that their world is becoming much more stable. But, at the same time, the clock theme specifically given to her might represent how all of this is just temporary(?) because even with all the symmetry there's still some elements that interrupt it, which might be related with the fact that they are losing their colors and even their individual silhouettes that made them stand out from one another.
Here's hoping it doesn't stay this way for another 3 years, cuz this is genuinely miserable. Still no progress has been made in their story, and now it's all just doom and gloom. This sucks for the story that had started out one of the most interesting and well written ones in the game.
The general theme of the new outfits is that everyone not only is working as a unit but have goals and are serious about those goals, the cryptoloids always advised them to trust more in eachother so makes sense their new designs have less matching elements with the kids. The uniform theme is not entirely perfect for some of them as they're still growing, we know that sekai leaders =\= group leaders, I can totally see mmj in an agreement to not stand out as much in favour of Minori.
lmao the "nickelodeon slime pattern" for Rui is better than how I put it, i always called it his "vomit shoulders" I think what would make Rui's new design better for me would be white gloves! Right now, they blend into his cuffs too much and create a sort of blurry unfocused area.
Great video, as always!! This was a blast to watch. I definitely agree on MMJ and N25: sacrificing the colours makes everyone feel a LOT more boring. For MMJ, I think adding each character's colour on their shoe cuffs or at least the rimming of their skirts would've been a colossal improvement in terms of individuality. And regarding their Miku (who looks STUNNING, by the way), changing the light grey to a pale blue, akin to the blue the girls are wearing, and making that punches-you-in-the-face hot pink a lighter shade would make her look wayyy more in place. It kinda hurt my heart to see the WxS KAITO slander, but yknow, I can see what you mean (and your colours of choice admittedly look WAY better)- Although I will say that him looking like Tsukasa works thematically to me: there's so many moments in the story where Tsukasa goes to KAITO for help, to the point where KAITO almost feels like a more mature version of what Tsukasa is striving to become. Which is why him having a similar colour scheme works in my head. If anything, I think returning his old epaulettes in a shade close to his shoe colour would reduce the shapeless-ness problem you pointed out. And, random, but it sucks that we'll never see him with his goofy cane outside his png-
I feel like enas loss of frills, lace and bows is supposed to convey her stepping away from seeking validation in her appearance (social media surfing and such) and becoming more comfortable with critique on her actual achievements and hobbies. She’s learning to face criticism and build on it. And with that she’s no longer relying on people online shallowly complimenting her appearance. Therefore she isn’t wearing a miniskirt dress with lace and bows, instead she’s wearing a longer dress with comfy sweater elements, because she’s doing things for herself and is growing more comfortable with people’s opinions.
I will die on the hill that if the baby blue on the new mmjs outfits were just their regular unit colours would've looked lovely. Although I do adore the new virtual singer outfits as I despised the original checked pattern
i actually thought that Tsukasa's old outfit was inspired from a marching brass guard kinda design, especially with the flag. this is because my highschool has a marching brass and their guard design has a lot of similar elements to Tsukasa's old outfit. most notably his hanging fabric thing on the side which personally I really love. in marching brass, that fabric adds a lot of movement and dynamic to an already fascinating dance, it moves nicely with the flag that is used to perform by the guards. but I also understand where they're going for with the new design. Tsukasa isn't a marching brass guard, he's a theater performer, and his new design id say sorta reflect that. he went for a princely theming and it looks way more professional rather than hand sewed (which tbf for his old outfit, it is hand sewed I'm pretty sure lol, Tsukasa makes his own outfits) it looks like he matures but I personally feel like his outfit just looks less dynamic and fun to me. the jacket is most notably, I feel like they should've played around with the tailcoat design that could make it more dynamic without taking from the maturity vibe they're going. overall I really like his new design but I do prefer his old one. it's much more fun and it reminds me of my own highschool. it doesn't exactly fit theater theme but I just can't shake how cool the concept is in general. even saw some beta designs and I love some of the star theming they had on his old outfit. overall, I just love the concept
I love all the new character designs, tbh, theyre so fun :) honestly i absolutely LOVE character design breakdowns, and when making my own designs i like to think about characterization and how to correlate the details and little things with aspects of their character/story. For me Mizuki's new outfit looks the prettiest, the black makes her look really unique and fancy, it matches well with her pink and fun attitude wearing something like that which focuses on her beauty, like a happy playful person who just got a really beautiful costume to dress from now on and is playfully like ever, content for it and showing it like always, it also feels like she can integrate into the outfit and knows the feelings of it
I personally wish we could've gotten the new outfits for all of the vocaloids rather than Miku getting one for every sekai & the others getting a new outfit for the units. I find it funny that everyone has at least socks & then there's N25 KAITO with bare feet. From the new outfits I like WxS KAITO's but the hat makes him look stupid. I really like VBS MEIKO & VBS Len's outfits too. He looks less... Like a homeless kid. MMJ' Miku is really pretty & I really like her braids around her twin tails. N25 Miku has a really cute outfit too, I love her black bows since I can actually see them. WxS Miku is really cute too. I wish we could choose whether or not we want the new cat Miku or old cat Miku accessory with the other accessories. I generally like all of the kids' new costumes. I honestly wish we won't have to wait 3 years to get the vocaloids new outfits though it's interesting to look through the new cards for the others' outfits even if a snippet. When we get all of them I hope N25 KAITO gets shoes, loafers maybe but with no socks
I'm not too torn up about only the Sekai's starting vocaloid getting new outfits because the others' looks have finally gotten 3D renders! So it's sort of like they all got new outfits in a way for the shows and 3D MVs!

This is my theory on leo/need Mikus and Lukas outfit change, and if you don't agree that's fine 👍 this is just my opinion. It feels like during the first years with their original designs they were acting as the cool senpais, but as their bonds with the girls grew they changed no longer looking like senpais, they give the vibe of a comforting older sibling especially with mikus softer looking jacket. But agian this is just my theory.

I like the wonderland showtime changes. The green one (I’m blanking rn) looked a pit too dull before for the very colorful cast, and adding more saturation was lovely. she actually looks like apart of the group now
18:17 i wanna add my opinion of tsukasa's different capes here *Old cape* - the pinkish gradient spots, with white in the center, on top of the light blue, makes it look like color leeching happened in the wash & now it has weird patches of color stuck to it *New cape* - gradients of what looks like white & light blue that actually look nice & like they're supposed to be there, with added sparkles that look like little stars, on a deeper blue, definitely adds a unique & magical touch to his new outfit
On the JP title screen, one of the variations is just Minori alone with a green filter, and the filter makes her uniform blue look green and its PERFECT
wow this is an incredible analysis and I love it so much!! Thank you for the amazing work!! I'm personally on the VBS train here because those clothes slap!! I feel this really shows all their personalities off more - Akito and An have the casual confidence vibe stronger here, as if they can break out singing if anybody aska them too, and I LOVE Touya's rather more formal and clean-cut look - this this definitely highlights his persona more and yet it looks cool and chic! And I like that they did not lose out Kohane's personality in any way or try to force her into ripped jeans or anything - a casual cute look which makes her look a bit more put together now! And best thing is they look really hot and awesome as a unit too lol! I'm not so sure about the vocaloids here though - sure they look cool and Meiko is the best there but I really miss the way her cool earrings popped out before, and I don't like Len's neutral tone shorts lol even though it kinda works in the overall scheme. MMJ is kinda sad because I always thought they did have quite some blue clash because of Haruka and Shizuku and in a way the customization of the old costumes was what helped to differentiate that for a while. Now.... there's absolutely no personality in there - so much blue and toned down. Maybe they should just dye Haruka/Shizuku hair to dark green to make a change lol. Other than that I like WXS chaos look lol - they still look cute now - always my favorite team because of how true they are to the happy carnival atmosphere. Leo/Need I liked the old costumes better but I liked the new poses - especially Honami's and Shiho's like you highlighted. The old costume showed off their individual colour better and being a band I thought it worked better for them than to be all cohesive. The new one loses their color but the poses and their expressions show off their personality! N25 look pretty - though it looks more like a one-off outfit ensemble for a special song cover that as a regular set. Anyways this was fun and I absolutely loved everything you said!❤

I guess I'm off-base since no one else seems to be saying this, but I really don't like rui's redesign. I think the color blocking looks really awkward and I perfer the old coat 100%. People say it looks ugly but I think it just fits his personality so well. Rui is a creative person, and the fact that his coat has so much going on works for conveying that idea. To me it has the feeling of being kind of patched together out of different materials, and the nickelodeon slime kind of reminds me of a paint splatter. No matter how I look at it, I like the old design so much better
Long story short: Musical holograms known as Vocaloid became best friends / psychiatrist / emotional supports for a bunch of teenagers that loves music. Pretty wholesome, sometimes depressing and funny.

I've seen someone say that it's representing the show they did to Haruka in the main story where they had all the lights blue, or it's going to foreshadow that Haruka is going to get a bigger focus than before (In my opinion I think she's developed the least so I wouldn't be too against this if it was true)

I'm gonna be real, to me MMJ got done the dirtiest with these new designs, AiriMinori like you said look out of place next to HarukaShizuku, but then HarukaShizuku look overly blue. 👹 Also Miku and Rin look like their N25 outfits but less depressed. But I appreciate Akito not looking like he took all the jackets from the family coat rack lmao.
Now that I've played almost all the stories (I'm missing MMJ) I can say that N25 are well thought out. They see themselves more united, more open to expressing themselves, they lost the colors to have a range of grays that represents their union. In turn, the gray instead of black in their dresses symbolizes that they are freeing themselves from that dark burden that they carried individually. But that darkness still there, that's way they not use something white like Miku, they are still growing up, need to learn more, but now as a real team of friends Oh well. That's my current interpretation.
Imo i actually like Mizukis, even though i prefer the old one Though i like them in colour, them dressing slightly darker makes them look more coheisevhite/grey ombre, which could represent that they are the character who has had the least development, or focus from others. We still don't fully know what's going on with them, though we have a pretty good idea, as opposed to the others who we can say "this is what's going on" with certainty. So if the white represents them effectively growing out of their cages, that might be why mizukis seems so dull. Also, i would like to point out that they are the only one other than miku with completely covered legs, leaving the only part of them exposed being their head and hands, which could be showing that they are keeping a secret.

My least favorite is MMJ, if only because of, as you said, the use of blue in all of them; I still prefer the general designs. I’m pretty sure MMJ’s blue color is meant to reference their secondary “sky” theming which is seen a lot in their events. Their new stage is even in the sky but I completely agree which your criticisms on them it really is a shame they lost some of their individuality and I think green would’ve worked much better than the blue since it wouldn’t overly clash or blend with any of their image colors I’ve seen a lot of people say green would be ugly but I think a really nice pastel green would be nice.
Also I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Pink on all of VBS’ designs (On Akito and Ans pants and Toya’s collar) its a small detail but a nice way to work their unit colors into their designs and make them look more uniform. Also makes Kohane look a bit more like the unit representative since her color is so similar its like the rest of them have a bit of her color in their designs. Basically like what happened with Haruka but done correctly.

actually i really like how subtly ena's skirt with the tight accordion pleats resemble a sketchbook!! it gives me the impression that she's not as into her selfie-taking and clout chasing vanity as much and is taking her passion more seriously now. the high collar also has a more professional yet still casual hoodie vibe

also overall 25ji distancing themselves from the school uniform look also feels like they're becoming more grown up now, especially mafuyu
mizuki going for tights and long sleeves (as other mentioned) also invokes the sense that they're going deeper into the closet, but their boots, belt and buckle really invokes fashion designer (their sister's influence?) yet still keeping their love for cute things with a subtle ruffled skirt and petticoat is a nice touch too
(also they're holding a baby blue lolly shaped in a heart and chose to distance it away from their face instead of having it closer compared to before. the subtle storytelling here is so good)
i think the reason why everyone seems to be 'becoming more darker and depressed' with their favor for black (other than mafuyu) is to highlight mafuyu's story in particular since the story has been always focused on her out of everyone else!
the reason the new miku for the empty sekai has shes on is because in japan you take your shoes off before commiting suicide, so when she has her shoes back on, it resembles her growing out of depression.

I actually really like how closed off Mizuki is in the new design, it really shows their fear of being found out about their secret, as if they're backing away and their cheerful persona is breaking off.
My favorite is Leo/Need's outfits ( totally not biased ), I love the more professional, mature look everyone has, it makes them look more like pros rather than random kids posing with instruments and posting the pictures on Instagram to look cool.
i see so many people dislike their new designs, but i really like it. i 100% agree with your statements, the professional look definitely suits them.
What makes Nightcord's new fits so great - imo - is this merging of their most prominent visual themes.
The muted colors are obvious considering the Sekai, and all of the characters have been associated with flowers for a long time, hence the flowers in the dresses.
Two new additions to the group's visual motifs are water (seen in like 90% of their card art now, as well as the addition of a Lake to the Empty Sekai) and clockwork (mostly associated with Mafuyu, who can be read as embodying as an automaton instead of a marionette).
The literally "washed out" look of the girl's costumes reflects the water. Like they're outfits that have been pulled out of the lake in the sekai. Meanwhile the vocaloids embody the clockwork - and you can see that motif in all of their new designs if you go looking at their cards.
In addition, I think the vocaloids being more put together does do a good job to reflect the group's healing. Sekai is a manifestation of the emotional state, and the ragged look of the OG designs reflected that. They're not wearing tattered clothes anymore because the girls are getting better, even if they still have a ways to go.
One detail I love about Leo/Need’s new designs is that everyone is smiling, where in the old designs, Saki was the only one smiling

Something that we should remember with mizuki is that they haven’t told the other girls about the real them, although mizuki had gotten closer to the group they still hide their real personality, (which kills me in the even quests)

I think adding blue to keep cohesion is perfectly fine but making it the vocal color of ALL their designs was, in my opinion, a bad idea. If they made the skirts and collars their own individual colors and then just made like the button thing blue, it would’ve looked better imo. There are of plenty of edits of the mmj designs that do this and in my opinion they look better.
I think mizuki got duller because they dont feel the need to put on a happy mask anymore, when the game was released mizuki always looked like the most energetic one because they didn't want people to worry about them. But now they are slowly warming up and trusting Nightcord more, so their dullness represents how they truly feel on the inside
Hear me out, Emu's new costume also shows her development of putting reality into consideration with the darker pink and less colors but still having some of the colors to show that she still has that childlike wonder

Overall I really like how the vibe of the designs have gone from "students with barely any money grabbing random clothes from their closets and trying to make it work" to "hell yeah, we are units now so we are ✨coordinated✨" Tho I agree that most of the vocaloids, despite having good designs, seem to have lost the cohesiveness shared with their og squads, which makes me wonder if it's foreshadowing for something coming up...
As for the groups themselves:
Leo/Need: I definitely like these new designs better and love the coordinated outfits (especially Shiho's) but I feel that star/astronomy theme that they are supposed to have should be more present in the designs.
MMJ: I agree with everything you said about them. I get that they might be trying to incorporate a new motif (blue sky, maybe signifying that have literally jumped onto a next level) for them but I think that's a boring direction to go on given how almost all of the groups have sky related themes that feel way stronger with them than with MMJ. So I agree that maybe sticking to the Clover motif might have been better given how unique and special feels to them.
Vivid Bad Squad: No notes for them, the new designs are perfect and I'm glad that the group has been able to knock some fashion sense on Akito.
WxS: I am conflicted because on one hand I really like the new colour palettes but on the other hand I feel that they left behind some really cute details that made their previous fits stand out.
N25: Love the flower patterns incorporated in them and shape of the dresses. This is just my personal interpretation but the reason that this loss of identity might be relevant for their next phase of development. N25 has made a lot of progress ever since their first events, which might be why Miku overall looks more symmetrical, representing that their world is becoming much more stable. But, at the same time, the clock theme specifically given to her might represent how all of this is just temporary(?) because even with all the symmetry there's still some elements that interrupt it, which might be related with the fact that they are losing their colors and even their individual silhouettes that made them stand out from one another.

The general theme of the new outfits is that everyone not only is working as a unit but have goals and are serious about those goals, the cryptoloids always advised them to trust more in eachother so makes sense their new designs have less matching elements with the kids. The uniform theme is not entirely perfect for some of them as they're still growing, we know that sekai leaders =\= group leaders, I can totally see mmj in an agreement to not stand out as much in favour of Minori.

I think what would make Rui's new design better for me would be white gloves! Right now, they blend into his cuffs too much and create a sort of blurry unfocused area.

I definitely agree on MMJ and N25: sacrificing the colours makes everyone feel a LOT more boring. For MMJ, I think adding each character's colour on their shoe cuffs or at least the rimming of their skirts would've been a colossal improvement in terms of individuality. And regarding their Miku (who looks STUNNING, by the way), changing the light grey to a pale blue, akin to the blue the girls are wearing, and making that punches-you-in-the-face hot pink a lighter shade would make her look wayyy more in place.
It kinda hurt my heart to see the WxS KAITO slander, but yknow, I can see what you mean (and your colours of choice admittedly look WAY better)- Although I will say that him looking like Tsukasa works thematically to me: there's so many moments in the story where Tsukasa goes to KAITO for help, to the point where KAITO almost feels like a more mature version of what Tsukasa is striving to become. Which is why him having a similar colour scheme works in my head.
If anything, I think returning his old epaulettes in a shade close to his shoe colour would reduce the shapeless-ness problem you pointed out. And, random, but it sucks that we'll never see him with his goofy cane outside his png-
If you look at Kanades dress you can see it has a zip and a hood so she still kinda managed to keep the hoody in a way
I feel like enas loss of frills, lace and bows is supposed to convey her stepping away from seeking validation in her appearance (social media surfing and such) and becoming more comfortable with critique on her actual achievements and hobbies. She’s learning to face criticism and build on it. And with that she’s no longer relying on people online shallowly complimenting her appearance. Therefore she isn’t wearing a miniskirt dress with lace and bows, instead she’s wearing a longer dress with comfy sweater elements, because she’s doing things for herself and is growing more comfortable with people’s opinions.

i actually thought that Tsukasa's old outfit was inspired from a marching brass guard kinda design, especially with the flag. this is because my highschool has a marching brass and their guard design has a lot of similar elements to Tsukasa's old outfit. most notably his hanging fabric thing on the side which personally I really love. in marching brass, that fabric adds a lot of movement and dynamic to an already fascinating dance, it moves nicely with the flag that is used to perform by the guards. but I also understand where they're going for with the new design. Tsukasa isn't a marching brass guard, he's a theater performer, and his new design id say sorta reflect that. he went for a princely theming and it looks way more professional rather than hand sewed (which tbf for his old outfit, it is hand sewed I'm pretty sure lol, Tsukasa makes his own outfits) it looks like he matures but I personally feel like his outfit just looks less dynamic and fun to me. the jacket is most notably, I feel like they should've played around with the tailcoat design that could make it more dynamic without taking from the maturity vibe they're going.
overall I really like his new design but I do prefer his old one. it's much more fun and it reminds me of my own highschool. it doesn't exactly fit theater theme but I just can't shake how cool the concept is in general. even saw some beta designs and I love some of the star theming they had on his old outfit. overall, I just love the concept

For me Mizuki's new outfit looks the prettiest, the black makes her look really unique and fancy, it matches well with her pink and fun attitude wearing something like that which focuses on her beauty, like a happy playful person who just got a really beautiful costume to dress from now on and is playfully like ever, content for it and showing it like always, it also feels like she can integrate into the outfit and knows the feelings of it

I personally wish we could've gotten the new outfits for all of the vocaloids rather than Miku getting one for every sekai & the others getting a new outfit for the units. I find it funny that everyone has at least socks & then there's N25 KAITO with bare feet. From the new outfits I like WxS KAITO's but the hat makes him look stupid. I really like VBS MEIKO & VBS Len's outfits too. He looks less... Like a homeless kid. MMJ' Miku is really pretty & I really like her braids around her twin tails. N25 Miku has a really cute outfit too, I love her black bows since I can actually see them. WxS Miku is really cute too. I wish we could choose whether or not we want the new cat Miku or old cat Miku accessory with the other accessories. I generally like all of the kids' new costumes. I honestly wish we won't have to wait 3 years to get the vocaloids new outfits though it's interesting to look through the new cards for the others' outfits even if a snippet. When we get all of them I hope N25 KAITO gets shoes, loafers maybe but with no socks

This is my theory on leo/need Mikus and Lukas outfit change, and if you don't agree that's fine 👍 this is just my opinion.
It feels like during the first years with their original designs they were acting as the cool senpais, but as their bonds with the girls grew they changed no longer looking like senpais, they give the vibe of a comforting older sibling especially with mikus softer looking jacket. But agian this is just my theory.

*Old cape* - the pinkish gradient spots, with white in the center, on top of the light blue, makes it look like color leeching happened in the wash & now it has weird patches of color stuck to it
*New cape* - gradients of what looks like white & light blue that actually look nice & like they're supposed to be there, with added sparkles that look like little stars, on a deeper blue, definitely adds a unique & magical touch to his new outfit
On the JP title screen, one of the variations is just Minori alone with a green filter, and the filter makes her uniform blue look green and its PERFECT

I'm personally on the VBS train here because those clothes slap!! I feel this really shows all their personalities off more - Akito and An have the casual confidence vibe stronger here, as if they can break out singing if anybody aska them too, and I LOVE Touya's rather more formal and clean-cut look - this this definitely highlights his persona more and yet it looks cool and chic! And I like that they did not lose out Kohane's personality in any way or try to force her into ripped jeans or anything - a casual cute look which makes her look a bit more put together now! And best thing is they look really hot and awesome as a unit too lol! I'm not so sure about the vocaloids here though - sure they look cool and Meiko is the best there but I really miss the way her cool earrings popped out before, and I don't like Len's neutral tone shorts lol even though it kinda works in the overall scheme.
MMJ is kinda sad because I always thought they did have quite some blue clash because of Haruka and Shizuku and in a way the customization of the old costumes was what helped to differentiate that for a while. Now.... there's absolutely no personality in there - so much blue and toned down. Maybe they should just dye Haruka/Shizuku hair to dark green to make a change lol.
Other than that I like WXS chaos look lol - they still look cute now - always my favorite team because of how true they are to the happy carnival atmosphere. Leo/Need I liked the old costumes better but I liked the new poses - especially Honami's and Shiho's like you highlighted. The old costume showed off their individual colour better and being a band I thought it worked better for them than to be all cohesive. The new one loses their color but the poses and their expressions show off their personality! N25 look pretty - though it looks more like a one-off outfit ensemble for a special song cover that as a regular set.

I guess I'm off-base since no one else seems to be saying this, but I really don't like rui's redesign. I think the color blocking looks really awkward and I perfer the old coat 100%. People say it looks ugly but I think it just fits his personality so well. Rui is a creative person, and the fact that his coat has so much going on works for conveying that idea. To me it has the feeling of being kind of patched together out of different materials, and the nickelodeon slime kind of reminds me of a paint splatter. No matter how I look at it, I like the old design so much better

I've seen someone say that it's representing the show they did to Haruka in the main story where they had all the lights blue, or it's going to foreshadow that Haruka is going to get a bigger focus than before (In my opinion I think she's developed the least so I wouldn't be too against this if it was true)

Now that I've played almost all the stories (I'm missing MMJ) I can say that N25 are well thought out.
They see themselves more united, more open to expressing themselves, they lost the colors to have a range of grays that represents their union. In turn, the gray instead of black in their dresses symbolizes that they are freeing themselves from that dark burden that they carried individually. But that darkness still there, that's way they not use something white like Miku, they are still growing up, need to learn more, but now as a real team of friends
Oh well. That's my current interpretation.

Though i like them in colour, them dressing slightly darker makes them look more coheisevhite/grey ombre, which could represent that they are the character who has had the least development, or focus from others. We still don't fully know what's going on with them, though we have a pretty good idea, as opposed to the others who we can say "this is what's going on" with certainty. So if the white represents them effectively growing out of their cages, that might be why mizukis seems so dull.
Also, i would like to point out that they are the only one other than miku with completely covered legs, leaving the only part of them exposed being their head and hands, which could be showing that they are keeping a secret.
Looking at it again mizuki actually has about the same amount of light grey shading actually nvm

Yeah, my favorite is definitely VBS, and not just because I'm happy that they have performing outfits that are separate from their casual outfits. My least favorite is MMJ, if only because of, as you said, the use of blue in all of them; I still prefer the general designs.
By the way, do you have anything to say on the main cast's new casual outfits?
