  • Always trying to be as simple and uncomplicated as possible I reluctantly built a sleeping platform for the back of my Land Rover Freelander 2 so I could have a level bed. The problem turned out to be my lack of product knowledge! A quick read of the owner's manual today while waiting for my daughters to finish their riding lesson had me discover that if I just removed the headrests the seat folds flat! So much simpler, quicker and of course much easier to set up than fighting that heavy folding contraption I. made two weeks go. I wish I'd saved the $70!

A very helpful film, thank you. Now I feel confident about my intention to buy a freelander 2. In May as a stealth camper. I am 5ft 7in, should fit in. Happy days..Harry

TOP TIP:- to get more head room laying down, remove the seat cushion completely and leave them at home..

And then when my kids have to get a ride to school or come camping with me I have to put the seats back in... Not an option as I need to keep the vehicle useable on a daily basis.

It only fits people under 158cm, at least in mine 2008 version 😕

You don't even need to take the headrest off. Just make sure the front passenger seat is far enough forward to allow rear seat to push down far enough.

The seat cushion gets in the way.

@@blacktiger955i Yes, the squab folds forward and even if you removed the front seat it has to have the headrest off to be totally flat.

@@blacktiger955i In my 2008 didn't make any difference removing the headrests.

Thanx so much, this tip with the head rests is perfect! I didn't know. May I ask how tall you are? I don't think it will match my 1.83.... i measure 1.50 plus an extra 10 tot 15 cm when the head rests are removed and i push the front seat to the front. Just wached someone make an fitting construction who was tall as well so there could aparently be more possible than i think.

@@simoneprins74 I can stretch out. I sleep alone (or slept as I have since sold the car) and can go diagonal so I get the extra length. I also leave the tail gate up, usually but there was always enough room to lie flat.
I now have a Subaru forester but use a Helsdon Hammock tent.

@@fatmanfaffing4116 Thanx so much for answering, very valuable. Yes so you do go diagonal, I think there is the key and probably the extra space of the front seat is more than I think now. Thanx again and will try it out soon!! Open tailgate won't be possible with the cold but I love to know it is possible to sleep in my car with my length (without a lot of adjustments). Traveling up and down a lot and my hip and back problems make hotels to a bit of a nightmare. The flexibility of sleeping in one's own car is a huge advantage as well.

It is a great vehicle and as soon as I get the rear oil pump replaced I hope to have 4WD. Until then it will avoid getting stuck. Again. Hahaha
