      Our 11 year old daughter loves watching April. I waited to watch this one until she could watch it with me.
      I don't have a clue what she's going to do when she's older, but what ever she does, she'll improve on it.

    I have been watching your videos for a few years now and I am always impressed with your "down to earth" humble soul. Another very endearing trait is your ability to explain your work and process so anyone can follow. You are very gifted, please keep doing what you are doing and don't get sucked in by some network (I am sure they will be calling for you to do a show).
    Love your shop and your videos. Thanks.

    You've inspired me ever since I started watching your channel years ago. It's been exciting and heartwarming to watch you learn and grow your skills and workshop. I've learned so much from your videos and you've often given me starting points from which I could branch out to learn on my own.
    I was trained as a draftsman on a drafting table early in life and have always carried those skills with me in every project that I take on in the shop. I never had a need to advance myself in CAD skills because I would do most of my planning in my head before I put it to paper. As I get older and my working memory decreases, it is harder to plan and hold the ideas in my mind as I brainstorm throughout the day while doing other things. Putting ideas down on paper becomes more time-consuming because of an increase in erasing and modifying. Because of this, CAD seems like an obvious progression for me and I owe it to you for giving me a starting point by recommending SketchUp as an affordable CAD option. I'm loving it and as a practice project I have been designing our first custom design backyard urban chicken coop!
    Thank you so much and best of wishes for you into the future. 💛

    April, your sense of grace and humor have helped you conquer one of the "good ole boys clubs" and it's good that you did. Twenty or so years ago, a good friend, an cabinetmaker and shop owner, passed away, leaving two adult daughters and a wife. His girls were both married and quite happy to be "home bodies"- Agnes, the wife, didn't do what two of her husband's employees wanted her to do- sell the cabinet shop and tools fro cheap and let them take over- she did the outrageous thing and decided to run it herself! Neither the two who wanted to buy the shop nor te rest had any idea that Agnes had been keeping the company books for fifteen years, had gone to night school after her daughters were big and going to learn better bookkeeping tools. Those idiots tried to screw up a couple of jobs, thinking she wouldn't know better; one nearly went to jail, the other moved to a new community- his rep and integrity shot. We are now looking a Agnes' retirement- she was 71 late last year; the people (three guys and two killer gal carpenter finishers) hope for someone like Agnes. You give them hope that that person. man or woman exists- don't change that one inch for some stuffy self centered idiot- not one inch! Glad to hear about new challenges and successes awaiting! Damn, girl, you got some fine tastes in adult beverages- a couple of my beer swilling plumber buddies would recognize all those labels! A question; can you see Matt Carriker's Abandoned mansion from your place? The mountain shapes remind me of the view he's shown from there! Always April, always awesome!

    For that 3ph sander you could put a VFD on it for not too much money. It’s an option you might not be aware of. It’s a nice option to keep the simple 3ph motor and be able to control the speed and stopping time without sacrificing power of the motor. The VFD can convert from 1ph to 3ph.

    • @bmay8818
      @bmay8818 4 роки тому +1

      I thought she might prefer that route too. One consideration, at least if slower motor speed with the VFD is desired, is that non-inverter-rated motors can overheat since they're expecting to be run at full speed. Only an issue if the sander is run slower than normal, though putting a blower on the motor would probably work.

      Actually, I was wondering if April might make a vid about her rise, her close supporters, and the small squad of minions that there must be to get all this production done.
      I don't get a sense that there's any oppression or exploitation at play. So, stripping that away, I think we're looking at that most elusive of people: the inspiring, well organized, resourceful, courageous leader.

      @@eejuice I'm not great at reading people, but April has always inspired me to do more with what I can physically do. I know she's also really hands on and I'm guessing that her employee's get to spend a lot of time working in close proximity to her. It's the way I've always worked best, getting stuck in and dragging everyone else on for the ride. I think I'd enjoy working for her 😊

      That's what I was thinking as well. It would have the added bonus of being able to use it to make the sander a variable speed sander. Those big old motors are torquey as hell, so it should have quite a bit of umph even at low speed.

    When I first started watching woodworking videos on UA-cam you're early videos were some of the first I watched. I remember seeing the video where you started it by announcing you had quit your job. Since then you've kind of become a watermark for what can be done with the right approach. Thanks for sharing this with us. You are a prime example of what happens when you're willing. I'm really looking forward to seeing the commercial space, and what you do with it. You're a wonderful inspiration, and I'm anxious to see what comes next.

      @Sven3xs My workshop is in my unfinished basement. Half a basement, because the other half is the mechanical room and storage. Getting any material in and out is a nightmare. I always found videos like this one, where people show off a workshop 99% of people could never own, are pretty gross, especially when half the tools in were given for free by the companies making them in exchange for shilling. Like some rich dude showing off his manor, his yacht, his RV, luxury cars, etc. Yeah, yeah, we get it, you're rich ! :P
