What You Need to Know Before Buying Boat Batteries

- In this video, I discuss what to consider when choosing a battery, especially a Dakota Lithium battery.
•Group size refers to the physical dimensions of the battery.
•Amp hours (Ah) refers to how long a battery can run. For lithium batteries, usable amp hours are higher than for traditional batteries.
•Dakota Lithium batteries come in a variety of group sizes and Ah. For example, the 135 Ah battery is physically smaller than the 100 Ah battery, but it has more capacity.
•Dakota Lithium batteries have a number of features, including a long warranty, the ability to be used for cranking, house power, or trolling motors, and internal heating elements that allow them to be charged in cold weather.

I have three of the OG 12 volt 100 amp in my boat for my trolling motor, bought in 2021 and put a 135 in this spring for electronics.
I have 2 optima AGM batteries that are 7 years old and still cranking. Bought a new AGM one last year to run all my electronics that is a awesome
My dad and I have 4 year old Duracell AGMs. They’ve held up over the years but going to be looking to get into lithium in the next year or so!
Haven't really used my big water boat (cuddy) in a few years but still use my main battery. 7 year old blue top optima going strong.

Great battery 101! I'm running 3 Power Queen Group 24 LifePO4 100ah on my Alumacraft. Plenty of power and longevity for the Garmin Kraken. They have been in service for a few months.

Owned a Terry Bass boat 45 years ago. Were they called analog batteries back then? Looking at a new Aluma Craft Voyageur to fish with my Grandkids in Minnesota. Your video forced me to look at the kind of battery that comes with the boat. Nothing online, will have to call. Hope to see you guys in the late fall. Golf cart has lithium, works great! Safe fishing!

All batteries in my boat are on their 3rd season. Lead acid for cranking and trolling motor. AGM for electronics.
2 years old, all Interstates. AGM for cranking/electronics and 3 flooded leads for trolling.
I've got a couple 1 year old West Marine dual purpose batteries in mine!
3 yrs old. Wet cell. 1 starting, 2 trolling motor in series. The trolling motor batteries last all day!
I've got a 2 year old Norsk Lithium battery in my kayak! Runs the graph for ~days.
4 year old Interstate starting battery, (2) Interstate trolling motor batteries also 4 years old. Going lithium when they give it up. New technology looks great.

For the record, I don’t have a boat, therefore, no boat batteries. I do, however, like to learn things

Be careful not all motors can use lithium for starting batteries. Maybe Mercury does but I know Yamaha doesn't... Especially with warranties on motors
