Its funny seeing all the comments about over torqued barrel nuts and fighting like craxy to break them loose. I took my handguard off to wipe down the barrel and reassembled it. Never touched the barrel nut. Next time i took it out, 5 rounds of 7.62x39 and the nut was loose. Thought it was the handguard but nope. Took it apart and found it was loose, watched this vid and went to torque to 45 like he suggested and it torqued it past a useable position for the handguard alignment. Grr.

VERY IMPORTANT STEP: DO NOT PUT BARREL NUT ON DRY. use regular shop grease at the very least on the aluminum threads.. Aeroshell is the perferred option but regular grease is 1000x better than nothing.

Currently trying to get the barrel nut off of one of your uppers. I have used 3 different tools specifically made to remove these. I had no way to remove this barrel without some sort of extreme measure. I’ve tried icing the barrel and heating the nut with a torch and putting a large breaker bar on it. Even with all my force I couldn’t remove the barrel nut. This is ridiculous. With all the force I exurted it caused the upper to slip and put a pretty good scratch in it. At this point I’m gonna have to put a pair of vise grips on the upper and beat it in till it comes off. I’m sure all future hope of accuracy out of this upper are over with. Thanks BCA!!!! Real quality.

I got a complete upper from you guys a few months ago and I decided to change the handguard on it and the barrel nut was so over torqued I started stripping the barrel nut. The tongue wrench I was using was set at 90 lbs from my previous use and my car and the wrench was clicking as I was trying to remove the barrel nut. I eventually got it off by using pipe for more leverage but the barrel nut is now usable but good thing my new handguard had all the necessary parts for installation. New barrel nut is torqued at 65 now.

Did I get bad barrel nuts, or did you say the wrong size crows foot?. Looks like 1-3/16" would work better. And I'm surprised BCA would be using metric hardware. I'd like a response. Thanks.

We recently purchased a BCA 7.62x39 upper with that exact barrel nut. My son wanted to change the receiver to a side charging BCA. That barrel nut is on so tight that my lug lock started to twist! I even heated the nut. That barrel nut didn't even budge! It's over torqued severely! We both have many BCA uppers of all calibers. Not sure what to do except return the parts & just buy a different upper from now on.
Great info in the video but, be sure your customers can actually disassemble the weapon through being properly assembled to start with. Absolutely no reason for that nut to be so tight it can't be removed by a customer with the correct tools.

Hey AR beginner here (and owner of my only upper as BCA). I’m wondering why the title os wrong??? You didn’t “change a barrel”!!! You “installed” one on a stripped upper!!! As any beginner I don’t want to assume just doing the reverse will work for barrel removal???
Please make a proper video showing the entire process of removing the hand guard and barrel assembly prior to replacing the barrel???
    This video is bad!!!

As an FYI on crow's foot on torque wrenches - he likes 45ft lbs ( also my choice for barrel nuts ). However the extra length added by this type of wrench reduces the actual torque value. He's likely torquing to about 40ft. lbs

That's incorrect. He has more leverage because the wrench is longer; so, he's likely tightening to 50 ft lbs. Ideally, he would have the crow's foot at 90 degrees.

Frankenstein builds are usually perfect as long as you stick to good companies. Good companies will have nice and tight tolerances that are compatible with each other.
If you do an 80% lower and a bunch of Amazon parts or the cheapest stuff you can get on optics planet your gambling. Lots of American companies will outsource handguards, castlenuts/qd combos, buffers, buffer tubes, muzzle devices, gas tubes, gas blocks and furniture. Even BCGs can be made in China but sourced and branded by your favorite budget dealer in town. Don't do it!
I've watched many hours of the School of the American rifle channel on UA-cam and even companies like fail zero and BCM will have a bad batch with loose tolerances.
The best bang for your buck on trustworthy parts is PSA and BCA. BCA is slightly less expensive than PSA but just as good. The only thing you sacrifice with BCA or PSA is a niver fit and finish. If your going to rattle can your rifle it makes zero difference.
Aero precision is a fantastic choice if your willing to spend about 30 to 40% more. They have A1 QC, fantastic standards with their colors and are just as good as any DD, JP, BCM and Troy product. I love aero because of their continuous rail design. You will never have a problem mounting anything to your flat top rail anything you want.
BCA I like better than PSA. Their basically the same but BCA is a little less expensive and their uppers come with charging handles and BCGs. So I guess BCA is the best bang for your buck on the market. No pun intended.
I wish BCA would use higher quality anodizing coats. Their fine and work but could have better natural lubricating properties. The bolts BCA and PSA use for their hadguards are ugly.
Also, from my experience. You need to run BCA uppers dripping wet to get rid of that gritty feeling in the action. At least until it's broke in. They start to get noticeably smoother at 1000+ rounds. Keep them clean and oiled up during the break in and you have a very smooth, durable and reliable rifle ready for what ever paint job you want to give it.

First of all where is the mark on receiver? where do you tighten the barrel nut mark to? secondly, all you manufacturers "Frankenstein" your rifles, as you do not make every single part that goes into you firearms. do you make your springs, small parts, handguards, grips, forges, upper and lower? I build my guns with the best of everything I can find. that does not make it a Frankenstein, it makes it a I have many of your products, and have changed parts etc. that does not make it a "Franknstien." how long have you had your gunsmith certificate? Armored certificate? btw you are suppose to have your crows foot 90° to your torque wrench, not straight. you will not get accurate ft. lbs. Also the vise block your using is only holding by the bottom two post holes, a reaction rod would be holding the barrel by the barrel extention not the aluminum forged receiver. nuff said.

Any Caliber Recommendations For My AR Build? Got 2 7.62 Uppers & A 5.56.
Havent Ran Into Anyone With A 6.5 Grendal or 458 But Thinking Of A 300 BO Build 🫣

    • @dakotamartin1621
      @dakotamartin1621 Рік тому

I have 6.5 Grendel. It depends on what the intended use of the rifle is. If you want to shoot suppressed, .458 or .300blackout would be better. I would goo with .300blackout due to ammo availability. If you plan to shoot 600-1000 yards, 6.5 grendel and 6mm ARC are the best. 6.5 Grendel used to be the most economical choice as it was cheap and readily available, but 6mm ARC is actually cheaper right now and more available. 6mm ARC also has flatter trajectory and better ballistics than grendel, but grendel has a little more ft bls of energy on target. Theres not really too much difference though between the two. If I didn't already have a grendel, I would build a 6mm ARC. Grendel and ARC also share all components except for the barrel, and Im thinking about changing over to 6mm ARC due to ammo prices and availability. One thing to note as well, 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC do best with longer barrels. You really need at least an 18 inch barrel to capitalize on the ballistics of 6mm ARC, and a 20 inch barrel for 6.5 Grendel.
