Hi Rebecca. I am 57 years old and looking for a fresh career. I have just passed AAT Bookkeeping level 2 and 3 via online self study. This has given me the confidence to continue studying in this field. I am eventually looking to work as a bookkeeper for a company. Would I be right in thinking my next step is to learn accounting software levels 1 to 3 in order to progress?
HI, First of all congratulations with your success! X May I ask you how long did it take to finish both levels and pass the exams? Or how many hours did you study in a week? Thank you in advance Mary x
@@marym8662 thank you. Level 2 took 4 months with 2 exams and level 3 took 6 months with 3 exams. Study time was through an online provider and varied. I personally was disciplined enough to do 2 to 3 hours every week day and increase study time near the exams.
Hi hun yes this is definitely a good step in the right direction to undertake study on the accounting software elements and well done to you for changing your career :) If you have any other questions along the way don't hesitate to ask x

Another great video! A quick question, I am starting AAT level 3 and have "some" experience with related fields, but do you think I will be at a disadvantage from having not completed the level 2 AAT qualification? And if so, how best to make up for that? Thank you so much!
@@RebeccasFinanceTutorials Thank you so much for the reply! I was more thinking in terms of ability/knowledge. Are there things covered at AAT level 2 that I won't cover at level 3 for example? Thank you so much again!
Hello Rebecca. Great video, thanks for making it. I have a couple of questions. Regarding AAT Level 2, I've found a distance learning provider and their fee is clear. The assessment provider is charging £119 to sit the exam. Is this fee applicable to each of the four units in the syllabus?
Hi Jim yes most likely it will be per exam but it should state this on their website. You can in most cases book your own exam which costs around 60 pound per exam which would be less but definitely double check this with the training provider x

Hi Rebecca great video! I dropped out of uni as I want to study AAT at a night course. Would u recommend going to level 3 straight away without any experience ?
Hi Ollie yes I think it is doable certainly but i would recommend taking the credential check on the aat website as once completed it recommends a course level to start with x
Great video. I want to do level 2 accounting, but after I complete it i want to move on to ACCA. I have a degree, and think after I understand the basics I think I could move straight on. What do you think?
hey :) thank you so much for the helpful video!! just two questions- what would you compare the amount of content in the aat level 2 to? (eg gcse maths/ less/ more) & would six months be enough time to complete it part time independent studying in a gap year? Thank you!! x
Hi Hannah yes certainly 6 months is enough hun you can do it in that time and that's a good question I would say it is gcse equivalent as that's the closest to it really x
when I began university with a BA in criminology, simultaneously I started a job in bookkeeping. Four years later, I am pro with excel I can prepare and submit vat returns, bank analysis, self-assessments and payroll. However, I am not qualified and since I am looking to start my own bookkeeping practice, I wonder what is going to be the best route. Hello, I am about to start new challenges in accounting field. I came from IT background so this is all new to me. I would like to complete AAT Level 2 , 3 and 4 within a year, could you kindly guide me through where to start and could it be possible to finish all 3 levels in one year if i put lots of effort? Or any other suggestions for me that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for the informative video, do u think it would be ok to start at level 3 AAT, with no prior qualifications in accounting just experience as an accounts assistant?
Yes you can absolutely start at that level with accounts assistance experience. There is a lot at level 3 which is repeated from level 2 to consolidate your knowledge x
This is a really good video thanks. Im starting my level 3 on next week and i was wondering if you knew any websites where i could find practice questions for the exams?
Hi. I started level 4 without doing the level 2 & 3 as I am working in finance already. However, in my role I mainly deal with account payable, supplier transactions and payments, invoicing and reporting. I am scared that I overestimated my knowledge. What is your opinion? Will someone be able to cover the information missing and finish the course? What sort of materials you used on level 2 & 3? Thank you
Hi hun absolutely you are not overstating your knowledge at all. Starting off in accounts payable is a great place to start and will mean that you have a really good understanding of the purchase ledger process which you can then use towards other areas that you want to work in, in future x
Hi, Thank you for your very informative video. I'm 54 and a teacher of maths. I would like to study for Level 2 alongside my current job. I'm a little worried by my age but the comments have helped with my fears! My question is if you self study which books would you recommend and at which points during the year can you sit the exams. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Thanks for your time.
Hi Alistair thank you for your comment, I would absolutely say that you do not need to worry about your age hun with accountancy and finance. It is a career which you can build for yourself in a relatively shorter space of time than other careers and there are lots of options. I would always recommend studying the AAT as I myself sat this and found this a very good building block at the start of my career. I would recommend either obtaining First Intuition AAT books or Osbourne because they are very informative and keep things simple which is what you need when you first start out :) I have a video upcoming to be released hopefully tomorrow which might also help with this area but I hope the above has helped in the mean time.
@@alistairnicholls9759 just wanted to say I am 55 and I studied level 2 at home whilst I worked full time in my current job. It did take me just under a year to complete but it can be done! I am doing level 3 now 😊
I did a Level 2 ICB qualification in Bookeeping and I wish I had done AAT instead. I am now doing Level 3 AAT Bookeeping. Would I have missed any learning by not doing the AAT level 2? Also I have noticed that some of the modules in the Bookeeping are the same as the ones for accounting so could I move on to accounting if I wanted? I’m a little confused how to progress after level 3 Bookeeping. Would I do level 3 accounting? I don’t really want to duplicate modules I have already done. Sorry for so many questions! Not only am I trying to learn Bookeeping I’m also trying to get my head around how the qualifications build on each other too! Love your Chanel by the way 🥰
Thanks Caroline and don't apologise I'm happy to help where I can :) so you would not have missed anything having not completed the level 2 module however there are again as you mention there a few similarities between level 3 bookkeeping and the level 3 accounting. I have my bachelor's degree in Accounting (graduated in 2006) and worked in accounts receivable/payable for over 3 years (2013 - 2017). I would like to get back into accounting. Hi, quite insightful video... This is my situation. i hold a bachelors degree in economics,2004 & diploma in accounting,2000. I intend to pursue ACCA qualification but i am looking at a level 3 or level 4 AAT qualification to redevelop my base and refresh my accounting knowledge. In your view, is AAT qualification good step to take ? If yes, which AAT level will you recommend? i am 42 and quick to learn
Hi hun yes I would highly recommend the aat but you may find that you have exemptions towards to the aat so could possibly enter at aat level 4 however if you pop onto the aat website they have a qualification and entry check where you can double check this on your previous qualifications x
you are very good, thank you for the advice. I want to ask you something, I am at the beginning, I want to start a career in accounting and I want to start it from the beginning, but I would like to finish the courses faster and more online because I don't have time. I am also old and I would like to finish the courses faster. What do you recommend? thanks.
Hi Vio thank you for your kind comment, I would recommend self study either through the ICB or AAT where you can simply sit the exams when you are ready. The ICB exams are 100 percent online whereas the aat must be sat in a centre but you can sit them consecutively for most exams x
Hello Rebecca I was wondering what qualifications is it relevant when u finish AAT 2, 3&4 equivalent to a university degree or is it a lower qualification and have to do cima or AccA to become a chartered account and start working? Thanks
Hi Ethelion there are a few job roles out there for individuals who are aat level 2 qualified and It would be good to get yourself the work experience x
Hi Kris, there are a few differences but mainly in what your licence allows you to do, for instance if you are a chartered accountant then you may sign off a set of accounts for instance x

Hi your video is really very helpful, I am going to start level 3, I would like to ask you should I only do bookkeeping or accounting as well?. Please guide me as there are 3 exams in bookkeeping and six in accounting.
Hi hun I would have a think about what you want to do long term. Both bookkeeping and accounting are great career paths but it depends what you want to do and that will determine which qualification :)
I currently work in tax and I’m looking to try change career slightly to do more accounting tax based role. I have done ATT and we needed 2 years experience to get the qualification. Do I need to have experience in accounting to get AAT or does it depend on which level I take?
Hi Emma apologies for my late reply here to you, yes there is a requirement of at least 6 months work experience that is verified by your employer however if you take a look on the AAT website here this should clarify this further for you x www.aat.org.uk/membership/professional-membership/full-membership-maat
I started my AAT Level 3 I’m September and I’m currently working as a payments processor with chance to train in the job at an accounting firm. I’m finding the level 3 very hard and I’ve failed my first 2 exams with a resit next Tuesday. Any suggestions ?
Hi Ollie, I would start with looking at your current study technique and don't worry I have failed an exam before today it happens to the best of us x try working through a workbook on the topic at hand and perhaps the mocks to flush out any areas you are finding difficult. If there is a particular topic you would like me to cover just let me know x
Hi I’m in year 11 and soon going to college, I’m really new to these stuff but am interested in Accounting. Would it be a wise choice? Is it hard? And what courses would be wise for accounting?
Hi Mr Vexus put it this way hun if I can do it you can :) it is thorough as opposed to difficult I would say and you really need to be able to pay attention to detail and problem solve over being good at maths for example which is a common misconception. I would 100% say that obtaining a training contact as an apprenticeship under aat is a fantastic start to your career and you are able to study while being paid and learning on the job x I hope all of this helps but if you have any further questions just ask away
Hey hey, im thinking about starting with level 2 AAT and then progress to level 3/4 do you think i should go uni or can i just apply for a licensed accountant after level 4 or do a chaltered course after?
Hi yes you can go to university and then undertake a chartered membership with CIMA, ACCA or ACA for example. However my personal preference has always been to learn on the job and those three years of experience learning the AAT will boost your confidence and give you the foundational knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping. It is all down to personal preference really.
Hello there Rob so I would say it makes you very employable because of the skillset taught through the qualification, it means you can take this into other industries to and includes topics such as ethics, financial management, risk, management reporting as well as the bookkeeping elements and commercial acumen of running a business
I went through with E-careers as they were the cheapest and seemed legit. I can’t speak for any other providers but they seem to just have a small input and the majority of work is done on the official AAT website.
Hi hun I would try premier training or first intuition x also if you have any questions along the way feel free to join my brand new community here : missfinancetutorials.podia.com/miss-finance-tutorials-community
Hi Rebecca, I’ve just finished my a level accounting course and got a grade D. Do you think I should start at level 3 AAT and also do you think I should do the course with a firm or individually. Thanks for the video
Hi Mohammad I would always air towards getting the experience as you learn so I would take a look for any apprenticeships that start in January as usually they begin September or January and the employer will pay for your studies too which is an added bonus as you learn :)
Hi how heavy contented is the level 4 AAT compared to A-levels and the level 2/ level 3 AAT? Is there a ton of info to memorise or is it more in detail?
Level 4 is definitely more wordy than level 2 and level 3 and I would say it is the equivalent of a final year diploma so I would expect that there would be more detail and information as it is also a consolidation of level 2 and level 3.
Hi Trina aww thank you that's lovely, I am not 100 percent sure without going through the criteria check myself however if you go to the aat website they have a check where you can pop in any prior qualifications and it will show if you have passed their entry criteria hun x
I spoke to a career advisor yesterday and they mentioned that if I’m aiming for a good GCSE grade in English & Maths then I should move straight onto Level 3 AAT (advanced), however I’m still thinking I should take AAT level 2…what do you think?
Hi Zara it's certainly possible to go straight to level 3 but I found that completing level 2 really helped me have that foundational knowledge for level 3 so I would always recommend level 2 first if you have no prior experience or knowledge of accounting :)
I would like to study AAT course but not sure if worth it. Accounting or bookeeping? Im 40, work as office administrator, and feel like I need to move forward...and if I spend the time & money I have to be sure I will be able to use it after. What do you think.Would you recomend it?
Hi hun yes I would recommend it but please check if there are any local government funding or grants available before jumping in and self funding. I have seen a rise in the available funding of late and it might worth taking a look first x
I have no qualifications currently. I am taking my GCSEs this year & next year I planning on beginning my accountancy journey. I am unsure if I should do bookkeeping or accountancy ? Which one is better ? Or more higher paying ?

Hi hun its so lovely to hear from you, I would say start with level 2 to make sure that you build that foundational level knowledge first x
HI,
First of all congratulations with your success! X
May I ask you how long did it take to finish both levels and pass the exams? Or how many hours did you study in a week?
Thank you in advance
Mary x
@@marym8662 thank you. Level 2 took 4 months with 2 exams and level 3 took 6 months with 3 exams. Study time was through an online provider and varied. I personally was disciplined enough to do 2 to 3 hours every week day and increase study time near the exams.

Hi Lee I can with confidence say that no you will not be at a disadvantage, employers take into consideration other factors alongside qualifications x

Hi,
Thank you for your very informative video.

Hi Vio thank you for your kind comment, I would recommend self study either through the ICB or AAT where you can simply sit the exams when you are ready. The ICB exams are 100 percent online whereas the aat must be sat in a centre but you can sit them consecutively for most exams x

Hi, what is the best platform for self-study? Thanks

How employable does AAT make you? I'd hate to try and change career and be left unemployed
Hello there Rob so I would say it makes you very employable because of the skillset taught through the qualification, it means you can take this into other industries to and includes topics such as ethics, financial management, risk, management reporting as well as the bookkeeping elements and commercial acumen of running a business
I'm looking around to do level 2 and 4 aat. And there's so many course providers. So hard to choose one!
I went through with E-careers as they were the cheapest and seemed legit. I can’t speak for any other providers but they seem to just have a small input and the majority of work is done on the official AAT website.

hey i’m currently studying for a degree in accounting and finance. From your informative video, i just realised you don’t really need to go university. So what is the point in getting the degree?
Hi hun although you don't necessarily require a degree to study accounting it does provide you with a different skill set to your peers and you would either require aat or university to study ACCA, ACA or another professional accounting qualification x
Hello i am a year 12 student (college) going to year 13 i been looking at many ways to get into accounting i have all the grades/predicted grades to do level 7 apprenticeship in 3 of the big 4 firms is it worth me applying for the big 4 or going into aat as i have no knowledge on accounting
Hi Ayy you can also study the AAT with a big four firm and if you are able to attain a student contract then the employer will fund your AAT studies most likely through an apprenticeship while you work and learn.
@@RebeccasFinanceTutorials if i were to find a aat apprenticeship programme would i have to start from level 2 many aat apprenticeship programmes ive found allow you to start and gain level 3 qualification and they dont say i need level 2 to join its really confusing 😭😭
@@sym5241 Hi Ayy yes you can start at level 3, it all depends on your past qualifications and what the employers decision is for instance when I applied for my aat apprenticeship over a decade ago they wanted all students to start on aat level 2 regardless of prior qualifications x
