Lyrics:
Oh, yeah
Mmm
Still don't know what I was waitin' for
And my time was runnin' wild
A million dead end streets and
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
How the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
There's gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
Mmm, yeah
I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Where's your shame?
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time
Strange fascinations fascinate me
Ah, changes are taking
The pace I'm goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Ooh, look out, you rock 'n' rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Pretty soon now you're gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I wonder when they're gonna start making lyric videos for all of the albums. Bowie pulled off so many different styles and aesthetics, every video would look great.

"Changes" is one of my absolute favorite songs from David Bowie.
my favorite keeps ch-ch-ch-ch-changing.
@@rockets4kids Me too.❤😂❤😂❤
To me this song is about facing whatever fears you may have in life, whether its something you can or cant control, you have to face it and embrace it because afterall life is full of change and if you arent facing the "strange" to then you will never find your self. Its one of my favourite lyrics, "turn and face the strange" and it means so much to me. Whenever im feeling down or anxious it helps me decide on whats important to me and what will help me be the best i can.

I'm not a spiritual guy, but I have had a personal connection with this man on the deepest level one can have with a musical hero. From my childhood days when my dad would put on the Ziggy Stardust album to present, I get the chills when I listen to him. Like so many other fans, I was crushed when he left us all.
Excellent & Agree ... I hope my YT Bowie songs as a one man band makes him smile ... Im lucky to be able to make the connection with his spirit too.
My Dad never played Ziggy Stardust, but from when I first heard it in 1974 odd to now, I still get chills listening to it. It was my cousin, Mike who first played it for me, but I was already a fan. How privileged are we to have lived at the same time as such a musical genius. 😀
Ditto.
Im in the exact same position as you, my dad would listen to hunky dory, i was only 10 years old, i got into bowie when i was 7
He didn't die. His physical body is gone, but his legacy remains. You die twice. Once when you leave your body. The second time when the last person utters your name. Keep playing his magnificent music. Keep saying his name...and he lives on.
My favourite Bowie album. Even half a century later, its still as fantastic as ever.

I can’t believe I heard my first David Bowie song on Shrek 2 before realizing it was David Bowie, the same guy who played Jareth from Labyrinth. That dude was in my childhood without me realizing😅
And he also voiced lord royal highness in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode/tv movie Atlantis SquarePantis.

"Changes" was also in the third season of Dexter when he's taking to a guy who murdered his ex-partners (before killing him) aboard a cruise ship.

This song is transcendental. It goes beyond the time when it was written. It's a piece of the "always-present" of human experience. I love this song.
OMG, yes.❤
Change is always happening. According to Eastern philosophy, which Bowie was into when he was trying on a hippie identity in his young days, states that the only permanent phenomena is change. Bowie was a deep thinker, as well as being a chameleon, corinthians and caricature.

The goto album to introduce someone to David Bowie.
Remus loved Hunky Dory more than anything. It was by turns bright and happy - then dark and introspective. He felt that David Bowie must have some super human insight into his soul. Even if he didn’t always fully understand the lyrics, he felt as though they somehow made sense.

Fun fact: Bowie actually wasn't heterochromatic. The pupil in that eye was actually permanently dilated as a result of a fight he got into as a kid.
And he stayed best mates with the guy who hit him

This is and always will be my favorite david bowie album, i know it by heart, thank you bowie, for being the musical artist that you are, you left behind a untouchable legacy, that no one can take away from neither you or us!
What makes this song so special is it captures perfectly the ambivalence we all have when we have to make changes to our lives and how we cannot go back ("but I can't trace time"). We may try to fake it with small but insufficient ones but to grow we have to face the "strange" (a nice allusion and alliteration to "strain") that change brings. It is up to us to either fake adaptation or embrace it as the only certain thing is that we are going to get older as time passes. Musically it is capture in the unstable opening of the chords and the nice harmonic palette and wide-ranging colors of the vocal delivery in the song (with the influence of the jazz tinged pop songs of Sinatra infusing the song).
'And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through.' Perhaps we'll always be these children, looking for a way to change whatever it is that troubles our own little worlds. But atleast we have Bowie and his music, and that's amongst the closest we can get to finding a cure for the human condition.
