    I'd like to commend the spotters in this video. Excellent correction calls
    All you guys shooting with your buddies take note:
    There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for your spotter to call a correction and all you get is.
    Ummm....Low, Right (what does this do for anybody?)
    Act as if the shooter didn't see shit then help him connect dead center to POA with an accurate form of measuring system.

      Jim Heflin: Just like you, I started the same way. If you truly want to put in the time and effort, there is nothing stopping you from being able to do the same. Not that you asked, but here are my opinions on how to best get started. First off, you need an accurate gun that you KNOW is capable of shooting 1/2 MOA or .5 inch groups, or better, at 100 yards. That is extremely important! The reason being, If you know this gun is capable of that kind of accuracy and you can’t get it to shoot that kind of groups, then you know the problem is with you and not the gun. And therefore, you need to refine your shooting technique. This does not mean you have to necessarily spend a ton of money. A lot of people are able too get this kind of accuracy from a 5-$800 rifle. Absolutely NOT saying a more expensive rifle is not a lot easier to shoot accurately, just saying it is not absolutely necessary.Once you are able to consistently shoot with this kind of 1/2 MOA accuracy, start stretching out a little further, say 300 yards on a steel plate. Once you’ve done that, Im quite sure you will want to go to 500 yards then 750 and then the magical 1/2 mile (880 yards). It, at least for me, NERER stopes being more of a challenge and more of a sense of accomplishment the further out I go. I know this whole thing has been extremely simplified, but that is how it came about for me over the course of 2.5-3 years of my excessive compulsive behavior.
      Good luck and hope you get to stretch out your abilities and accomplishments.

    • @glennjames1756
      @glennjames1756  5 років тому +2

      John Chibosgood Yes sir, that just so happened to be the height that everything was. Also, when you start going out to long range and Extremely long ranges, you don’t want your scope 1/8 to 1/4 inch off of the barrel. Your scope needs to be high enough so that you are not blocked by the end of your barrel. Check out the “King of 2 mile” videos and you will see some of them running the scopes MUCH higher. Because you can level your reticle with the target and or the horizon...
      Out in the real world where you couldn't even make the walk to... it really doesn't matter. It's pretty hard if you're paying attention, to be canted more than a degree.
      And less than 1 degree.... or 9.5 inches at 3025 yards just does not matter for a 7 rem mag.

      Any person with a capable rifle and spotter can figure out how to theoretically hit the target. There's still a tremendous amount of skill involved with reading the wind, and getting the shot off without throwing the shot wild. At this range, a heartbeat is easily the difference between a hit and a miss.

      Zac Wilkerson LOL not me! I once saw a guy hit a 24x24 target @ 1220 yards with a 300 blackout on his 10th shot which I thought was pretty unbelievable. Me and a Dr. from Lubbock Texas we’re shooting a 308 and a 6.5 Creedmore at the target when he comes walking around the corner with that 300 blackout and a duplex Nikon scope. I told him to turn around and go back because he was full of it if he thought he was going to get close to that target. He dug about 20 misc rounds out of his pocket and a box of 10 that were all the same. I asked him what he was going to aim at and he said he was just going to point it up in the air and pull the trigger and see if he could see where it landed and try to walk it in from there. I laughed and said let’s try to get a little more scientific than that. We looked up the load information on the 10 bullets that he had that were all the same and got a BC and a velocity that we thought was pretty good to plug into a ballistics calculator. Of course I had a reticle in the scope that I was using on my 308 and I measured it up the side of the hill that was half a mile behind the target and told him to hold his horizontal even with a rock but about 50 feet to the left. He pulled the trigger and the bullet landed about 20-30 yards away from the target. after he saw that he was able to walk it in by himself and hit it on the 10th shot. He was totally out of his scope and could not even see the target at all when he was pulling the trigger. Best shooting i ever saw. He is actually the guy that you hear say IMPACT DEAD CENTER in this video. 🤫 don’t let him know I said that.

If you hit on your first attempt, I will pay for EVERY expense that you incur to come to the ranch to make that shot. If you miss you pay Double the full freight. @@glennjames1756 last time i shot a bullet was in 1986...so id definitely miss by light years...but that being said....had no intention to offend anyone,,,but yeah....first shot dead center is a must on ELR....though... I must admit that i suspect all of your shots were beyond the ammo capability, and apparently some of the ammo had inconsistencies.......
      I think it woudl be great if You ever redid this kind of sessions with a Super high speed camera tracking the last few yards of the trajectory and some device to measure the punch left at moment of impact....
      But agian as for the scope....if u cant get a hit on the first shot, then it is impossible to evaluate its overall quality....maybe try the same review with a 375 chey tac?!

    I don't understand why people use their turrets. Once your rifle is zero all you have to use is your reticle for elevation, distance, and windage.

    • @TheMitchbassman
      @TheMitchbassman 6 років тому +1

      Zeroed for what? Your zero constantly changes. With range. You set for each shot.

      @@TheMitchbassman
      Your rifle is zeroed at a certain distance and does not change, then you have to hold off for compensation. basically, you have to know you ballistic chart for your load. In my case my rifle is zeroed at 20 yards and at 200 yards, maintaining my aiming point at center mass and center on the reticle. Everything in between I do have to adjust for elevation, windage and so forth. Lots of people get in-depth with turrets dialing and all that but basically is all about using your reticle and knowing your ballistics.

    • @roryrohrer7640
      @roryrohrer7640 6 років тому +2

      @@LACTS-be7pr its easier to adjust the elevation and windage and hold your reticle on target than holding your reticle high and to the left/right a good scope will return back to your original zero just turn back to your zero marks and you still have to know your ballistics to adjust your scope. Also at that distance he was shooting he had a rail that had 60 moa built into it and he still had to come up 44mils and 6mils left and he was hold close to if not right on target, doing it your way if you could even see the target it would have been at bottom right or 5 o'clock looking through the scope just not practical just adjust and hold right on target, on a side note this shot is not practical but this is the new thing is shooting way past the bullets potential
      Also your ways works for fast and close target engagement out to 500 yards give or take what optic and how well you know your load
