Idk about Fred being a terrible dm. He’s definitely better in advanced positions making key passes, but he has been tracking back and covering spaces excellently the last couple of matches. He was so good today that Rangnick switch his position with Magic so that Fred would be covering the space Son would be running into.
Disagree about Maguire. The price they paid was definitely steep, but it was pretty appropriate given his age, contract length, and nationality (in the context of english footballers being expensive in england) Maguire has been good for Man United for the most part. I remember when the game vs villareal, some mu fans said that is the best performance from fred ever. Yet he is not good in the game. Higher, CR7 isn't young, so he can't play the entire game intensively. Rash is awful currently. The approach, which we saw in this game let us defend deeply and we neutralized danger in front of penalty area - due to Fred and Matić. Tottenham only could cross balls into penalty area what was perfect for Varane and Maquire (instead of his own goal) who won all areal dueals. OK, some additional comments. First, It has always been my view that there are only two things that set apart teams at the top of the table, and teams at the bottom. The first is mistake free defense. This will be henceforward dubbed "the Maguire problem." Every defender will screw up at some point, but minimizing those mistakes is critical. You make one per game and you are in trouble. The second is lethal finishing. Unless you can finish one or two opportunities that are gilt edged every game or every other game, you will be staring at the bottom of the table. Watched Burnley vs Brentford today and Burnley is actually not bad. But who is so lethal that you HAVE to say, "this guy will put it away?' Nope, nobody on Burnley. Of course, that is what sets Ronaldo apart. When he's 45 his athleticism will be gone, but his technique to finish will NEVER leave him because he had the gift to finish in ALL circumstances. Shot from long range? IN. Central channel run to receive the ball from wide and shoot? In. Header of the corner? In. And thus we have a hat trick. ManU still has huge issues. Matic strike me as not being a top 4 table performer. Did you see how did the "Ole!!" on Son in the first half? Rashford remains a puzzle, Oodles of talent, but he's out there, he runs around, and when it's all over you say, " Did he have any REAL impact on the game?' Yes, and they were getting outnumbered at the flanks when spurs were attacking. It was always 2 vs 1. That's what made them concede the 2nd goal although it was an own goal.
I think 🤔 what caused spur's downfall was playing with a fairly highline and not using their no .10s efficiently ,it should be noted Kane did not drop off alot and they were so passive with their pressing giving United's center backs time on the ball
Not sure where you got these xG numbers from but that's incredibly generous to United think they only had 1 shot that wasn't Ronaldo and he had .8. Realistically even accounting for Ronaldo's average xG performance from the past few seasons he only scores the header & long shot in the same game around 1/100 times, Spurs dominated United and they looked tactically naive, main issue Spurs had is that both Doherty & Reguilon were frequently making extremely poor decisions in the final third because neither of them really have the skillset required.
Glad someone mentioned this. Spurs frequently had their wingbacks in dangerous areas bc United's wingers (esp Rashford) are not inclined to track back. The ONE time Reguilon delivers a quality ball they got an OG, which cancelled out his error leading to Ronaldo's 2nd. On the right, Doherty is simply not good enough. They don't have defenders who can Bully players at all apart from 2-3 teams. One on one they all dead as well. Conte is doing the best he can with this squad & no clubs going for son from a long time always baffles me. Again Cristiano was top of his game in this match.

If more often than not, you need to add small notes on xG due to penalty kick, isn't that tell you we need to update how we calculate xG?
