DSLR Video Shooter was ahead of the curve making his diy version back in the day. Cool to see companies making it a final product with a screen you can buy
Hey Curtis, I wanted to express my gratitude. I finally bought the OSEE after carefully studying it for some time. Your video was the final push I needed to make the purchase. Thanks for your help!
Another excellent video. One tidbit if I am not mistaken is the most recent firmware update for the Osee allows you to also record to an external USB drive.
Thanks for the video. One point is not clear though. Is it being recognized as an external camera if you connect it to a laptop via USB type C? Or did you mention that at 02:20 ?
Thanks, Curtis. I am glad to see you review this unit. I bought the original deck earlier this year and ended up returning it after being disappointed by the audio quality - I could only get rid of a nasty buzz with a ground lift on a DI box and felt like the unit really cut out the low end of the audio signal as well. Curious about your thoughts on the audio quality?
I run my audio through my camera which has pretty decent audio converters. My take is that audio inputs are an area for Blackmagic Design and OSEE to improve.
You can also record to a SSD with the usbc input. It records one input of your choice and you can also use the usbc to add a hotspot. Overall very cool but I really want iso recording. The other thing is I Already use DR for editing and the atem pro iso makes those files for you to take into DR ready to go.
So Curtis, I tweeted out OSEE and asked my question. I got a reply: "Hi Matt, We have a plan for the Duet with Kit. However, it really takes time and costs more. But yes, it will be available in the future."
Thanks Curtis for a very clear and concise comparison. I have one question for you. I do corporate training and I have a very sophisticated set-up, including the basic ATEM mini. I facilitate very complex sessions, using a 3 camera set-up and multiple info sources. Why do you use an ATEM Mini Extreme, with 8 inputs, when your set-up looks much less complex than mine? What am I missing? Thank you, as always, Peter.
Hi Peter, I typically have 6 sources: main camera, live chat, iPad with slides/agenda, computer for demos, overhead camera, and hyperdeck with background animation for the super source where I combine the slides and main camera over the animated background. I don’t know that my setup is complex, but it does consist of 6 sources.
@@curtisjudd Hi Curtis and thank you for your prompt response. Straight away, I can see what I am missing: Simplicity! You have a complicated set-up, but it looks simple - Perfection!!! I began livestreaming at the start of COVID and, then, I did not even know what a preamp was used for! Over time, I developed a set-up using a combination of the ATEM, various input sources, glued together with OBS and controlled via a Stream Deck. This set-up allows me to do super sourcing via OBS. I am really happy with it and it works fine, but it is very complicated to work out the solution to a problem caused by an OBS update etc. If I was starting out tomorrow, I would probably buy an ATEM Mini Extreme as it would facilitate super sourcing and it would facilitate the design of a far more simple solution. Thank you for your response and I always appreciate the content in your videos. Cheers, Peter
How many sources can the GoStream Deck stream at once? Do you know if it can work with additional software such as OBS or Streamlabs? There is very little out about any of this info. Thank You
Well, the way I do it is connect the RODECaster's 1/4" balanced outputs to a camera with XLR inputs and then the camera's connection brings the RODE audio into the switcher.
This is great Curtis, how would you say it compares with the Atomos X Cast? I acquired a X Cast as I currently own a Ninja V, and it made sense for the rare occassion I might need to do a stream. However, this unit looks perfect. One thing I'm particularly in is the fan noise, I still haven't got to the bottom of whether it's my unit or if all Atomos Ninja Vs are as loud as the unit I have, however I do find the fan noise sometimes is a real detractor of good quality audio if in close proximity to the unit, if the GoStream is quieter then I'd definitely be interested.
It is definitely quieter than the Ninja V. That's the main reason I stopped using ATOMOS recorders unless they're off in video village, at least 5 meters from the microphones on set.
Really nice device! I currently use OBS proxy + Atem mini. What obs proxy does intuitively is to add support for multiple views with many different gadgets (text, web/html/scripts). For example, outputting local time clock is of interest to me if there is a schedule in local time and audiences may be in other locality. “Next talk begins 14:00” is easier understood if the wait screen includes the clock :) currently working on some 12 video edits and thinking about how to make life easier. I kind of want to remove obsproxy from the workflow to get one less place to push buttons. Less risk of messing up if only one device to manage.
If you need ISO recording then the OSEE is not an option. I haven’t tried the Ultra, but I’ve had all sorts of software/firmware issues with the other Yoloboxes. Maybe they’ve fixed the issues by now, but as recently as early 2024, I wasn’t impressed.
@@curtisjudd Thanks for the quick reply. I've had pretty good luck with the Yolobox Pro. Though I use it mostly as a switcher and we on rare occassion stream from it. This is not something we do a lot and ease of use and less setup is important to me. So the ATEM gets too complex with the necessity of a laptop and additional screens to see what you switching. An all in one seems more up my alley.
Is it possible to make the audio source sticky? I would like to use the xlr inputs on my C70 but be able to switch to powerpoint on my computer while keeping the audio from the C70. I am currently using a Ninja Cast and have found the video quality for a computer to be so low as to be unusable. Did you see any video quality issues from a computer source with this unit?
I have had the standalone version of this since before the app came out, and I have to say, being on their Facebook group, they do a lot of firmware updates. I suspect they will aggressively update the app and keep adding features. They have even released a version of the Decl that has an additional 4 SDI inputs.
Really cool. For $900, it's a good pitch. What I'd really like this for is a go-bag for an operator who needs to record a guest (with a presentation) for a conference. Stick a camera and a Wireless Pro on it and you're golden. I wouldn't use it for much else due to the audio limitations. If it could handle an interchange with an audio mixer - XLR, MADI, Dante, whatever - then that would be great. As it is ... I rarely have livestreams simple enough that two mics would cut it, and I wouldn't use 3,5mm cables even if I did.
I didn’t realize this takes the processing away from the computer that changes my thoughts on these, I’m looking at the black magic stem mini pro iso because it lets you record multiple cameras and audio separately. Does this allow for something similar?
I think the GoStream is better than the ATEM. The Kit is a great Idea but they just released a GoStream Duo, which I would want as it has 4 SDI and HDMI. You can also use the Macro/Companion to switch between SDI and HDMI and can, with planning, basically give you 8 inputs (4 SDI and 4 HDMI).
Update: There is an active, private Facebook group dedicated to the OSEE GoStream for those who work with the GoStream.
Hi Curtis, I'd love to hear your impressions and realworld reality check of the 32-bit audio feature on the Lumix GH7 with the updated audio module 💎🦘
@@fellowcitizen Me too! First camera that can record 32-bit float (with an attachment).

Thanks for the video. Do you know if they are working for something similar for SDI setups?
Yes, they have a new GoStream Duet deck with SDI inputs, though I don't believe they have a kit yet with that version (monitor and hardcase)
Thanks for the video. One point is not clear though. Is it being recognized as an external camera if you connect it to a laptop via USB type C? Or did you mention that at 02:20 ?
Yes, it is.
Thanks Curtis a great video. I'd love to see a deep dive.
👍
Always ready for all hr videos ❤

Is there some kind of cover for the ports on the back of the case to protect them during transport or are they always exposed?
Nice compact system for live streaming. Question: Why don't these products have xlr inputs for microphones?
I wish they did!

Awesome video. Can you have 4 outputs at the same time live? Quadrant style.
Four inputs on screen at the same time? I don’t believe so.
Thank you for another great upload Curtis 👍

I recorded a few clips on an SD card but it would not play on my Mac. Is there a reason for that?
Not sure. Probably should contact OSEE support.

The links don't work this side of the "pond" so checking, can you input 4K over the HDMI or is the input still restricted to FullHD?
So Curtis, I tweeted out OSEE and asked my question. I got a reply: "Hi Matt, We have a plan for the Duet with Kit. However, it really takes time and costs more. But yes, it will be available in the future."
For me, a big feature was the program preview bus on the physical machine, not just in the software.
