  • Thomas Martin was Glenn Martin's great great grandfather, a miner from Cornwall who emigrated to colonial Australia in 1857. He spent years moving around the various goldfields in Victoria and New South Wales, learning. He ended up as the manager of a goldmine at Bethanga (Victoria), and he held that role for about 25 years. The great problem he solved (together with his son Thomas) was how to extract the gold from quartz effectively. He was loved by the people of his community, not merely for his astuteness, but also for his humanity. He was remembered with great affection.
