  • In this short video, you will find very useful information about standards of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the content of PAS 1192 and ISO 19650.
    Why do we need to know about the standards of building information modelling? What are the standard guidelines and definitions of BIM?
    In this video, you will learn about the content of ISO 19650 part 1,2 and 3:
    BIM standard ISO 19650 part 1: concepts and principles.
    BIM standard ISO 19650 part 2: the "delivery phase" of the assets.
    BIM standard ISO 19650 part 3: the "operational phase" of the assets.

    Hi Dr. Elham. You taught me at Huddersfield University, for my undergrad, I am now doing my Msc in Building surveying. This video has been very helpful in helping me understand BIM standards. If you can please upload a video on the documentations needed for a BIM launch process.
    Thanks

      Many thanks for your comment and the brilliant question. BIM standards should be implemented on publicly funded projects in the UK. In other countries, there are different regulations around the implementation of BIM standards. But what is for sure is that as we go on, more countries and companies will use the BIM process and standards in their construction projects. I should also add that we still have a shortage of skilled professionals in BIM throughout the construction and built environment sector.

    Are there any challenges for designers to implement and respect "BIM Standard ISO 19650" during the design phase?

    • @builtevolvechannel8870
      @builtevolvechannel8870  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the brilliant question. ISO 19650 Part 1 discusses various topics that are directly related to the design phase: digital project delivery strategies, information delivery and handover plans, BIM Execution Plan and federated model that links the architectural design with building structure and MEP. It helps designers to have better communications with other stakeholders involved in the project. The most important challenges in my opinion are around building up the required knowledge and digital skills. In many cases, there need to be communications with the clients around the necessity of implementing BIM in private projects.

    Hello, dr. Elham. Thanks for the informative video! Hope that you will upload more videos in the near future. I have a question regarding BIM Standard ISO19650. Is the BIM Standard ISO19650 only used and is a binding document in the UK, or is it also used in the US and the rest of Europe? If it's only used in the UK, what are its equivalent standards in the EU and the US?

    • @builtevolvechannel8870
      @builtevolvechannel8870  Рік тому +1

      Hi Mohamed, Such a brilliant question. ISO 19650 is the International BIM Standard. It has been developed based on the existing UK BIM Standard but was modified to form the international version. I am not aware of any other widely used standards in Europe (I will need to search to give you a definite answer).

      Waiting for you new videos! I hope that you can emphasize on the relationship between BIM and the sustainability in the built environment in your upcoming videos; that is, how BIM can help reduce the carbon footprint, reduce waste, and induce a greener built environment.

    I am looking to consider BIM as my PhD research topic more precisely "Digitalization of repair and maintenance of residential appartment".
    How BIM can be implemented in this research topic?

    • @builtevolvechannel8870
      @builtevolvechannel8870  Рік тому

      I can suggest various different topics (mainly the ones that I like personally) but the best way to get to your PhD research topic is to start reading research articles around this subject. Also, before choosing your PhD topic, you should think about three important things:
      1- Your previous skills and experiences: It will help you a lot, if you research a topic that you have in-depth experience in.
      2- What do you want to do with your PhD? Why are you planning to do a PhD? Finding an academic job? Being very skilled in a narrow subject? Staring a business? Some topics are interesting but will not secure jobs for you.
      3- What subjects/methods are you passionate about? For example, I did not like pure theoretical subjects and wanted to use digital tools and technologies.
      Good luck!

      @@builtevolvechannel8870 , thank you so much for the detailed reply. I have considered all these points and i have read various literature on the topic too.
      Actually, my previous research in my masters program was application of wireless sensors for leakage detection in underground sewer and water pipelines to prevent the occurence of sinkholes in urban areas.
      But, for my PhD i want the keep the application of WSN, IOT, and BIM in Construction as my research areas. The change i want is to apply these latest technologies in building sector.
      During my masters degree i applied WSN to infrastructure projects but in my PhD i want to apply my previous knowledge of research in building projects.
      This will make me to understand the application of these technologies in both sectors (infrastructure and buildings).

      I read one of you review paper, which is i think most citied article in your profile, "The impact of occupants’ behaviours on building energy analysis: A research review".
      Nowadays, i am writing a research paper titled "energy performance analysis of an existing building using BIM". I cited your article too in my paper. Hopefully, i will submit in a journal.

      Good to hear that you are about to start upskilling yourself with BIM. There are two important sides to it: Theoretical and practical. I would suggest that you learn both sides. For the theoretical side of BIM, there are various books and online resources that can help you. For the practical side, I would suggest you pick one BIM tool related to your expertise in the built environment and start learning it step-by-step. The job market is full of current and future BIM opportunities. If you tell me more about your profession and specialisation, I may be able to help you more. All the best!

      Hi Mohan. If you are not based in the UK and don't have a UK Visa that allows you to work in the UK, it will be very difficult to get a job in the construction sector. You will need to find a "HIGHLY-SKILLED" job in a large company that sponsors visas.
