- The NASA It Gets Better video is a video project created by the "Out & Allied @ JSC Employee Resource Group" of NASA's Johnson Space Center. It was created as an outreach tool primarily directed at high school and college-aged lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals who are victims of bullying and/or have been affected by bullying. This video sends the message to current and future NASA employees that it is OK to be LGBTQ, and that NASA supports and encourages an inclusive, diverse workforce in our workplace.
Thank you NASA.
NASA doesn't just stick to space. They rescue miners in Chile and they help kids in high school. It's really cool, but really weird, too.
I agree, but this comment is totally off topic. This was part of the It Get's Better Project and is not work related.
Very good. Im just discovering what NASA actually does and starting to become interested in space. Its awesome to see how human and supportive the various space programs are. The same goes to the Canadian space center with fantastic people like Chris Hadfield, all very cool and very human. The right people.
yet another reason to love NASA.
beautiful. thank you for this.
Good work, NASA. Totally surprised to see a video of this nature from such an agency. I'm sure this video will help many around the world.
It's nice to see NASA's on board. More energy for our unstoppable movement!
Thank you again NASA team. I am hetero but I fully support you ideas and way of thinking. You are good, smart and productive human beings and that's what is important ! Don't stop until we conquer the universe !
Thank you NASA!!
i'm actually not dry eyed at the moment, this video is soooooo liberating and i hope for everyone who watches, it is so... It Gets Better! thank you NASA, thank you everyone who is brave enough to be different... to be yourself! ;)*
Well done :-) Thank you NASA and thank you Sally Ride. hope you hear it from heaven :)
I'm glad NASA is helping others.
It has everything to do with NASA. What they are saying is they accept everyone for who they are. So not matter what your dreams can come true to.
Actually, he got a point. There are several ways to interpret what he wrote. I may be wrong, but I choose to interpret what he says like:
"Never mind whos gay or not, it doesn't really matter. NASA should just keep on focusing on it's business in space."
Viewed from that perspective I think he has a sensible point of view. Why make such a fuzz about people's sexual preferences?
They're trying to show people that being gay will not prevent anyone from achieving prestigious goals.
What i ment by that was not if they do or don't have the skills needed for the job. but if there is something personal like there sexuality they should not be judged about that.
Right now, the government tend to claim that most problems in this area stem from fundamentalist Christians. However, it seems standard practice for this to morph into Catholic clergy censuring in other countries, like Canada. Supposedly this will never happen in the US due to the SCOTUS, but, with the SCOTUS so political, it seems unlikely that such protection could be relied upon, if stating reality or religious doctrine that seems offensive is banned.
Just beautiful!
So often in these comment sections, it seems clear that these tolerance messages are limited to people who agree, and are totally gay or pandering to gays. Other view point, like those of, say, a bisexual who is living in a traditional married lifestyle, are totally maligned or the existence of such rejected, their problems marginalized, even their character trashed. This cannot possibly be tolerance. As a married guy with seven kids I'm largely standing outside the fire, no one is...
Bravo, NASA..
I got an idea for taking off: why not attach a shuttle to a dirigible instead of a rocket?
Thank you so much NASA. This means the world to a lot of people. Especially for thr gender identity bit.
Great video, and the little cameo at the end is the icing on the cake!
Well done NASA!
How stupid we are, humanity have alot to learn yet! This is a good move by Nasa. Freedom, for all of us!
who came here due to a yt glitch that made a channel say it joined before yt
Consider the double standard: the white house claims in court that gays are similar quality parents and all research agrees. However, if they had made the same claim about single or remarried parents, the claim would be outlandish in this field. It seems like a skeptical scientist would, rather, seek out how these studies managed to achieve these outlandish claims and then reject those methodologies that disrespect essentially all other family organizations. Yet claim tolerance?
It seems a hollow victory for the LGBT crowd now that NASA is much smaller in budget, capability, etc. (back in 1970s Sally Ride could not be open about much of herself). Although great accomplishments with robotic spacecraft, it struggles on HSF (where are we really trying to send people? Moon, Mars, or an asteroid? Direction change every 4/8 years?). Then there is decimation of aeronautics, NTRS, education outreach, etc.
These folks got a chance to rehearse this all part of a paid 40 hour week that may have rolled into many more hours including a production studio. Your tax dollars at work.
I don't think it's ridiculous to speak out against widespread discrimination, helping millions of people deal with a (thankfully fading) stance telling them that who they are is wrong or worthless.
NASA Channel supported by my taxes. Besides, everyone has a crappy adolescence. I imagine NASA folks have it harder being more intelligent than the average ESPN watcher.
I must ask...how is it on the space station?
I think the point of this was NASA is a big thing and most people are very interested in there work so they have the power to put the point out there and say, "Everyone is equal, and has there own rights to there life." and who is to say if they can or can't do this. If they feel it is needed then they can do it. i am sure if you look all over youtube you will find people with there jobs putting the point out there that NASA has done with this video.
Sheldon, I was being sarcastic, do I have to write a sign saying (sarcasm)?
Authentically challenging me. The challenge that I pose is an obviously valid though radically different view of marriage than that normally posed by the popular culture. How come biologically intact families need to be devalued? Why must ex-gays be hated? Why must the problems of bisexuals be marginalized? Aren't these valid questions? I think its clear from the way people treat me that the culture being created is despicable.
Thank you NASA, for taking part in this improvement of culture.
Thank you to all who shared their experiences. It's getting better, and you're helping to make it better.
Cool video, way to go nasa!
wheres all the hate comments? i want someone to shut down.
Yes indeed NASA makes a point with this video. It's a shame that we have a situation where it has to be done though.
Everything. Because who done love NASA? so they have the power to say, that everyone has rights and NASA will not stop in they way of your rights because of who you are.
I'm not scared, not at all gays, and certainly not hateful. I'd like to think I'd tell you the truth when no one else will. Hatred of ex-gays can be pretty intimidating, however.
great! now do this too with the army and navy and intelligence agencies, those i just mentioned need to get better!!
First of all, I expect holding a camera in people's faces is not that expensive. Second, in order for society to make progress in a field, you need statements from people who are a) affected and b) positive examples. So who better than people from a prestigious organization like NASA? Third, why so angry?
What dose this have to do with NASA
I think they know better
The legality, per se, of the Catholic viewpoint seems debated in this area. By tax law, developed civilized government unanimously endorse the traditional Catholic viewpoint, even while teaching versus it. It seems reasonable that one could fire a birth control using protestant, but, much more difficult to present a case versus the Catholic viewpoint at a high court level. Are you actually going to force people to use birth control? If they are married? Educated? Successful? The truth...
Your assuming there-s been no closeted GLBTI people in space. And as for what this has to do with aeronautics and space, well Transgender people for one are actually disproportionately common in the sciences and military (those that survive the bullying and manage to finish their education despite the harassment) with many famous ones being former marines, former SAS etc. So maybe they are doing this to recruit the best people for the job?
It usually does.
#NASABeLate
What does this have 2 do with aeronautics or space?
I did imagine this would happen though, I wonder, who will the first crooked astronaut b.
Aeronautist they're trying to say that you can be LGBTQ+ and be anything you want including working at NASA
How about you shut your fase and look at the world and think about what it is and thank nasa for doing this and being the good person in the work and accepts everyone for who they are.
Still twinkles.
How come this is racist, it is about gays, not race, your uncle???? LOLOLOLOL that is funny.
