Same, it's weird though. Lol hard to explain I guess.
Me too!!
Me too!
Yore!!!
Imagine thinking at that moment that you will never see your brother again forever. If I were in their shoes and they separated me from my sister, I think I would die without a doubt.
The way Lyle doesn't react when the other van goes in the other direction but just sits there with a heavy heart.. like the realization is setting in and he just accepts it slowly
He looked so defeated, like the reality of the situation crept in

Using this song in the beginning of the series, as an inappropriate song the brothers played at their parent’s funeral. And then playing the song again in one of the final, emotional scenes where they get separated… full circle. Such a good artistic choice.

For them to be separated was a fate worse than death.
They back together now but not as close after not being together for 10 years
@@jin4xed One thing that is admirable about them in a strange way is their love and loyalty towards each other. When many other tandem couples commit crimes they turn on each other either in court or the aftermath blaming each other for planning it or pulling the trigger or what have you.
For example, Judd Gray and Ruth Snyder instantly turned on each other the moment the pressure was on. While they were theatrical, the movies The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity which were inspired by the case show exactly how the prosecution pressured them and how quickly they threw one another under the bus which didn't work since they were both executed.
Another more recent example is Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo. Her testimony against him and characterization of herself as an innocent victim being led by him was so successful that she eventually was released and lives under a different name while he's still in prison.
If they don't do that, they still want as little to do with each other as possible.
For example Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme were ordered never to contact each other ever again and it got to the point that even long after they were released and eventually moved to different parts of Britain living within two countries of each other, they not only obeyed that order but didn't want to contact each other remaining tight lipped about their past relationship. They didn't sling mud against each other but were clearly not interested in reopening that chapter of their lives by reuniting either.
Another duo that happened to was Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold. As far as I know, they didn't turn on each other in court but they were sentenced to the same prison and never communicated with each other even up to Loeb's death. Leopold's autobiography is very detached in describing his former partner and he admitted that even he couldn't remember what drew him towards Loeb.
Lyle and Erik both remained fond of each other admitting fill responsibility and continued to maintain that the murders were an act of loyalty and love of each other. Lyle even said that if he had to do it over again, he wouldn't have killed their parents just exposed them so they could never hurt Erik. Their reunion was reportedly very teary and happy. So it's a very interesting contrast between their relationship and other partners in crime.
I'm sure there are and were others with that kind of relationship but I can't think of too many.

The most powerful scene in the whole series.
I agree 100%
And the saddest scene also
I thought this song suited the ending scene perfectly. If you just pay attention to the lyrics and not the romantic meaning of the song. Like "it's a tragedy for me to see the dream is over" could be interpreted as their dream was to finally end the abuse and be able to move on in their lives but it didn't go as planned and now they are sentenced to life in prison, seperated.
Don't forget this line too "I'm gonna miss you" indeed....they will have to wait years before they can see each other again....😢but at least, they're together today👍

I was waiting for vans to go in opposite directions any minute and when it did happen i broke in tears 💔 it was probably the last time they could see each other before the reunion after 20+ years. Can’t imagine how painful that would’ve felt knowing you probably never gonna see your brother again 💔💔 i have a sister and just a thought of never seeing her truly hurts. I can’t imagine what it was like for them to endure on top of everything they’d lost already. Very heart wrenching scene 💔💔💔
Yea imagine how their moms older brother feels
You do know they murdered their parents in cold blood, right? I have a feeling you were not alive when this all really happened. They were 100% guilty.
I cried like a punk when the vans separated.
@@markconiglio7769 it's obvious. It was wrong. Totally agree with u.
But they thought out of fear that they would die. They did that to survive and escape from their parents: after so many years of abuses, threats and fear, Lyle wanted to reveal everything. But as he and his brother have always been threatened to be killed if they do that, they thought that no one would help them and they will really die, even if it was unreasonable 'cause there was no visible danger. Their fear made them feel this way.
I don't justify their crime: it was wrong in any way and justice has been served. But I also think they can be free now. They served enough time in jail.
@@markconiglio7769They were getting rape by their dad. I was alive when this happened. Boys have a harder time come out with that kinda abuse.
I don't know why this ending makes me cry for them. This was the perfect song. I'm going to watch all of the movies and series because I honestly believe they were abused. There's only so much a person can take and telling others people back and even today are reluctant to believe. The dad even said he was abused so it continued ......
There’s something about that one line in the song: I’m gonna miss you. Just hits hard
they played this song at their parents funeral
This was NOT the perfect song for this ending! They already eluded in the series that they had a sort of Incest relationship, and the song is about two lovers splitting up and going they’re own ways 🤦🏾
How@@rowlaanbennett7296
@@rowlaanbennett7296 I know that’s what I was kinda like uhh this a weird choice
In this scene I viewed them as brothers being separated and I liked their expressions. Esp the ending moment where Lyle sees the other car disappear and you can see him broken. He doesn't even ask 'where' like Erik does. Because he realizes that maybe he will never see Erik again.
Lyle was more mature and was a part of a Hispanic prison gang Erik was always innocent like a child
Absolutely true 👍
@@cm5733 What was particularly sad was how Lyle behaved in the final scenes after the second verdict. Throughout, he is so cocky, so talkative, aggressive, always coming up with the ideas.
In their final scenes, he is so quiet. He's broken, defeated, and has nothing left. He's out of fight and is just exhausted and numb.
Significantly, this is when Erik becomes more aggressive and verbal. There is a slight role reversal with their characters as Lyle is the more submissive one and Erik the more dominant when before it was the opposite. Erik tries for an appeal and is still questioning their sentence. But Lyle says hardly anything.
Notice at the end, Erik asks where they are taking Lyle and Lyle says nothing. It's like he knew that they weren't going to be even granted that favor of being together.
One of the saddest things ive seen in forever. Cant get this out of my head. So glad they are back together again though.

The use of Milli Vanilli-songs is spot on because in some way, the bands and the brothers stories are really quite similar. Both were used by powerful people they initially trusted, both lived lies for many years (lies for which they were not responsible) and both took the blame when everything fell apart. The public picked these men apart in the 90s and only now with the awareness of sexual and also racial abuse, people start to understand what was done to these people. And the fact that both stories happened at the same time - followed closely by OJ as also indicated by the show - says so much about the time. Very clever choice of songs indeed.
I cried this part because then they knew they was never going to see each other again just a sad ending

Same here. That was brutal, the cars going different ways, to this song… well done.
@nicokl5593, it was brutal. We all have our own views on what actually happened within the Menendez household before the murders and what fate they deserved. Still, we empathize with the brothers as we travel with them on their journey. Seeing them separated indefinitely is heartbreaking.
@@Andyscobie So true and that ending scene was directed so well, all action, no words.
They get in their cars, kind of resigned to the fact that they are going to prison. As they are driven they revert back to children, trying to find each other in the other car, looking across the road smiling at each other, like “what next, this is crazy, see you there”.
And then, right when the song gets to you, the cars go different ways unbeknownst to Erik& Lyle. We as the viewers know they will be separated for 20 years, while the song that has now been interwoven throughout the entire story, the screen goes dark. And that’s it, so completely depressing. The actors really sold it. Incredible performance.
I mean, wow, I am not the biggest fan of Ryan Murphy, but that scene was brilliant work.
They didnt see each other again for 22yrs. It was very cruel how they did them. The fact that their prison records have been clean all these years especially when they went at a time where California prisons were very violent, speaks volumes

This is very sad...PLEASE FREE THESE MEN!
I feel like their life sentence and getting separated was way worse than the death penalty. Literally kept fast-forwarding through the last episode in outrage as their lawyer wrote on the paper. So sad with how this ended for them. 😢

This will easily become one of the saddest scenes in the movie history
The song was perfect it was gut wrenching they shouldn't have been separated glad they are together.
“Youre brother is going someplace else” .. damnnn
That "where" is so haunting like for one moment Erik was that frightened little boy who wanted to stand behind his brother in that fixed position again and know that Lyle would protect him, fight for him, and keep him safe. But there was no Lyle this time.
Both of them are married, Erick since the 90's. I think this helped them to keep on tracks even being separated.
Also, they managed to reunite again. The serie could have showed this part when they reunite.
But the end would not have the same impact..
This is fucking awful. I don’t really cry at movies but this is making me bawl. Sexually abused by their father until they couldn’t take it anymore, then had to listen to a court tell them men can’t be sexually abused before being separated from the only person they ever really trusted
Their mom also abused them
When you hear the lyrics: "Couldn't change your point of view...you're leaving.." - I think of the jury and court that didn't believe the brothers that expressed their pain in acting out.
Very complex tragic case but its as much about a cycle of abuse and a terrible outcome, but I believe the brothers were genuine in that they lived in fear of their parents. Definitely not the right response, but never estimate what a lifetime of abuse does to a person's development and how trauma affects the fight or flight response differently than it would a healthy young person or adult.

My heart broke at Erik’s face when he saw the other van going the opposite direction 😭💔
I thought this ending was horribly sad. And even worse is knowing it’s also true. They were purposely separated for 22 years which was really ridiculous. And we know that cause they’re back together again. But only after 22 years. That was just mean for them to separate them. I think their lawyer was trying to stop that from happening but didn’t win again. The prosecuting side and public were so against them. We now know the truth and believe the abuse as more evidence has come to light of its truth.
This was cruel & unusual punishment by the judge.

At least they ended up in the same prison together, after 20 something years after being separate. Gone to different person to serve their time.
